The Servus Heritage Festival is happening again this year from August 1st to August 3rd. As a result, the Chinese Graduates Association of Alberta (CGAA) and the Edmonton Chinese Bilingual Education Association (ECBEA) are looking for volunteers to help run the Chinese Pavilion.

I am organizing the Chinese Pavilion at the Heritage Festival again this year and requesting about 120+ volunteers and many performers; if you can help out and join in the fun for three days in the biggest multicultural event in the world, please let me know. Perhaps you know others who might be interested, please forward the attached files to them—it will be an excellent opportunity for them to experience and promote Chinese culture, as well as to contribute to the community. $ B1 `& \1 Y/ ~3 G# A6 _0 {

2 R( P; I7 K( X% D, u! U3 O! k9 YThe attached file details the event and volunteer positions along with a volunteer application form. You are invited to join in to help in anyway; I need mini van drivers, set up and take down crews, cooks, food servers, performers, craft sellers, calligraphers, general helpers, dancers, singers and so on. As in the past years, please try to sign up for shifts on Sunday and Monday, and also evening shifts, as those shifts are less-filled in the past. Please note that the set up and take down crew is very important as we need many hands to quickly set up and pack up before and after the event. Please reply back early so I have more time to organize the shifts, this is greatly appreciated.

8 J3 s3 J1 q" l$ x* kThis year CGAA has again sponsored ten $100.00 draws for post-secondary (5) and high school (5) scholarships for the Chinese Pavilion volunteers; this is in addition to the 13 draws for post-secondary scholarships ($250-$400) sponsored by the Servus Heritage Festival and opened to for all volunteers. We have had more than one winner for the Heritage scholarship each year for some of the past years.

+ I+ T/ X, W* M) tFurthermore, if you are interested in a food preparation certification (valid for three years) for concessions, there is an optional Home Study Course available from Alberta Health Services, the cost is $10.00 and it will be reimbursed to you once you write the exam, receive the certificate and present it at the festival. Please give yourself plenty of time for this process as it takes two or three weeks to receive the certificate. Otherwise, you can study the material without writing the exam. Please see the web links below to get the web site. Let me know if you are intending to earn the certificate.

As in previous years, we will be providing transportation to and from the site from ASSIST Community Centre; we are at site #28, which is the same location as last year with three tents. Food and beverages will be provided to all Chinese Pavilion volunteers.
