The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
9 n1 n* x  r( r) bthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 3 E, ^9 s% t# M; [3 L* Q- R
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
6 M- o3 P6 g; J, J; r7 VEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
( W: l; u$ t, X( ]execution of the YWCA Strategy
( h# w1 T. D7 o' G% r
$ `0 O. x2 b3 ?  }7 ?* Z" h# ESpecific responsibilities include:

3 }" S+ f: h+ Z$ O4 i5 m/ N•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
6 G* ~) s. F, t( O% s% Rthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ! v' A; i" X# e* @+ j# w
the Board of Directors;  ; W* x' C4 A3 c, _( j' I
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
3 o: d; n& |- R/ I6 Gincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
& t' z6 x9 M5 c+ q$ R0 T  Yenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
) V  R$ G$ i9 l/ b, Z6 [•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 9 G/ o: W$ }, {6 ]* G
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
* B2 F* g  Y; [8 Bthe board;    V$ O% @+ Y& X+ T
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ( Q6 L: k/ Y) f, R3 y) z2 r
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion " p8 i4 E: ^1 }7 D
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
* h2 M( n8 P5 s' x•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ; d  e: M, |  q* \% Y
changing needs of the organization and community;
) c2 G9 q6 Q/ K$ [. ^7 u•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ) l! G- T, w6 h
commitments;
; U. V2 C- j! _: X; b; _•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
) R" w, x# \, O" r. v3 ~1 ?# A# [•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
) q* U6 ?  V+ U& j- iselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  & Z7 M0 _1 q& C2 J% J  h
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
) }+ [& z0 Q! _( F•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
6 ^% b# O/ u- E* y& J* i. peffectively and positively represent the association;
6 ]9 x: K6 |/ i$ Q9 a0 f! K* U3 {  H$ E+ G  Y+ l1 ~
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 9 _# s1 T, v8 s3 t( a# m$ x/ N
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
( f# h! z  n- F% j9 d9 _1 G" z•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
4 W1 \  `0 A0 r7 @' ~9 S2 P; O4 Wperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED % O" {1 G. B. O
the forthcoming year;  7 ~- l2 T$ q$ r
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
. o# T3 k# t% G$ P- l# Ppractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
' b8 `  Z( Z0 ~/ PYWCA Canada; and $ c6 W( X5 X3 I& u
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 3 n# R' `! C) v/ D

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 3 R# w5 ~- |3 c7 e, V
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
; Y$ D: K6 s) C$ Y3 k, f•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 0 @0 P! @# q# U0 N2 G8 ?$ i- G
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 0 N/ I  }, H6 C; |. K
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
% w6 b7 P1 G$ a! }5 R  k) Z# d" U( Xsimultaneously; 5 Z1 a: [$ z; @  k) u
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 0 W- l" J# q3 Y3 `. R/ y9 p
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 1 l2 }6 E0 M) W0 S
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 0 B3 H1 a; @. k! t8 A+ G/ E& Y) _
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification * F2 L# X0 K: o5 Q5 X
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. , \  |' {( `& H+ ?
) h8 L4 b4 k4 W7 w0 Q
Required Experience 3 B6 P1 _. T# ~
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
" C0 K/ r; x# ]! g0 G+ `•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation & u7 G) p8 ?8 r& D8 c
abilities; 7 e. E* o: k& G3 g
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
5 B" `$ k( ]& x+ U7 i4 PNetworking and Fundraising;
. y' X+ @/ o  Q# E•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting # ]5 C" }3 J- ^
and financial statements; and
8 Q& z7 Q5 @0 ?6 n2 U$ _•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
4 @3 c. Z; |" y! zcentered perspective. / l, ?& h% k6 S6 r
