What Makes Christmas Magical

During the Christmas season, summer and its body-conscious state of mind
/ a6 w* M( }- \$ G9 |- @are distant memories. Hearty indulgence in the many foods shared at Christmas + b" q2 p2 [3 O
therefore doesn't produce the same feelings of guilt. Nevertheless, its not a 9 J9 L: \7 d- b( C9 g# ]1 W9 j4 f
pleasant thought to start the New Year carrying any extra pounds. So why then
6 @7 }& Y, V1 P5 z: m1 ~' S7 }, Qeat yourself into a resolution to 'take off a few extra pounds' if you can - ~2 }9 {; x- O. ~6 E/ C
smartly avoid it?/ O( S- [, }& h8 x1 c; x
?Whether it's sharing cookies and candies at work, or having an evening out
- e( x( ?. C! l" S: Z+ ~- bat a party or dinner, you can have Christmas food and enjoy it. While you seem * z) C+ n. z* ]! D
to be eating heartily with a smile, the key is to have a secret strategy of
# ~0 k' b. g6 _' Vmoderation. It involves sticking to a plan that can be called 'Eating on a
+ Z* Y5 q. X8 y4 XBudget.'3 t: w8 Z& l% ~5 V$ w& b

to a lot of cookies, candies and other sweets at Christmas. At work, you may ; G3 O' H: `  S6 G& f' k0 T
risk appearing like the Grinch who stole Christmas if your response will always
( k5 P8 P% r  W. t. B, Dbe something like, 'Uh..no..bah humbug' all the time that some Christmas goodies
" l6 I8 N6 [9 `& `3 ware offered. It will seem as if you aren't in the spirit of the holidays 1 ]* w5 S" @5 E5 E4 k
especially since at that time of year everyone is usually in a festive and more
# r' h" O& p7 W9 N4 |* B) {9 Jrelaxed mood, and the pace at work is usually slower.
4 a: i' d* u: f, F0 i?A practical way to partake in Christmas goodies, for example, is to ' h; q2 e3 u! N9 m+ D7 p
substitute some holiday cookies for say the bagel that you usually have with
4 @5 B3 ^2 J3 y* \* b9 Ibreakfast or for a mid-morning snack. And instead of just taking one cookie,
. Q' a! p$ {6 j2 Y4 A. ^, xfrom the platter, which is noticeable and likely will encourage a colleague to
1 X* L/ E6 g( x( Wtell you to have more, take three instead. That's where the plan can come into   v; `+ G4 |* s5 P5 a# m
play. You can then enjoy the cookies over two or more hours,ed hardy hoodies, because nobody will ) D7 Z. f. |  p. K" M% K
be watching how you really eat. You can always have a few candies, one cookie or 9 c! F5 b8 c% R# ]& J7 V
a cookie and a half by your desk and that way it will seem as if you are
$ Y" b' I, D  a5 z8 L! kheartily enjoying the holiday treats.? 8 Z/ {8 ^, M4 r0 `6 ^1 @. I) D
?Another strategy is to bring - bake or buy - low calorie Christmas cookies . Q- O0 B& d% J8 i- O3 w
and candies to work to counteract others that are being offered. Since eating   n8 T" v- D7 g! v& _8 T* a' m
healthy is highly encouraged, health-conscious cookies will not be looked down ; r" Z8 s2 b+ t* _; x; M' b
upon so long as they taste great. A box of sugar-free Christmas chocolate + c( L. u- ^# C2 ]
candies for example will look just as delightful as regular chocolate candies. & y8 Q6 g$ d0 Q: T
It's interesting to note that in a poll sponsored by the National Confectioners

Dinner, where larger quantities and selection of food is available, the 'Eating ( n3 {, c6 s; q
on a Budget' plan means that serving portions and the choice of food selected 6 g6 J7 W. o( k; S9 V
should be carefully watched. 4 N. q6 o% J, ~0 V8 t' O
At a party where more desserts and sweets are likely to be available, a few of ) h) V' @" e( Q$ i5 c
the selections can be sampled. If the urge to try everything can't be resisted,
, o4 i4 N, a* l2 f3 U- Othen do so, but then second helpings have to be severely limited. The same is

during Christmas Dinner will be heavier, so by selecting portions wisely,air max tn, one
