What Makes Christmas Magical

are distant memories. Hearty indulgence in the many foods shared at Christmas

+ @0 W; H$ |2 X* [% w) S, r* ?0 e+ S4 opleasant thought to start the New Year carrying any extra pounds. So why then
* b) i' \+ ]( W8 _3 ieat yourself into a resolution to 'take off a few extra pounds' if you can 7 W7 P: ~2 ]) Q% F+ U1 F! r
smartly avoid it?
+ x5 S% W' t( Z' L* q% K3 y* n) P?Whether it's sharing cookies and candies at work, or having an evening out
; R& N! L, T1 O) G5 {% g  bat a party or dinner, you can have Christmas food and enjoy it. While you seem ) a+ a; j4 o/ C
to be eating heartily with a smile, the key is to have a secret strategy of
$ |: e& F% ]% p. Y& o, O/ W9 k, nmoderation. It involves sticking to a plan that can be called 'Eating on a
9 C% h* \5 }+ WBudget.'

to a lot of cookies, candies and other sweets at Christmas. At work, you may / d$ S& [+ i8 q& b) Z
risk appearing like the Grinch who stole Christmas if your response will always 9 e/ {* P7 F; o  d/ Z
be something like, 'Uh..no..bah humbug' all the time that some Christmas goodies % ]5 j) L' _8 |% z- S2 H9 s# [1 K
are offered. It will seem as if you aren't in the spirit of the holidays
' w1 `7 ~( ~# J, h. L' g  R2 N" ^% H- iespecially since at that time of year everyone is usually in a festive and more ; U- k6 X4 R2 b  b* P
relaxed mood, and the pace at work is usually slower.
+ C, H+ e4 d' c5 i/ a?A practical way to partake in Christmas goodies, for example, is to
/ j$ q* E# T4 k. psubstitute some holiday cookies for say the bagel that you usually have with
1 S" z& u0 r/ y* D3 {- nbreakfast or for a mid-morning snack. And instead of just taking one cookie, 4 [! \  D0 N' t/ Q7 N) u
from the platter, which is noticeable and likely will encourage a colleague to
' d7 ^7 W8 w  b8 M! ftell you to have more, take three instead. That's where the plan can come into
- @; A: {+ b; h; s# p) L# O7 X; P- e% Splay. You can then enjoy the cookies over two or more hours,ed hardy hoodies, because nobody will

a cookie and a half by your desk and that way it will seem as if you are 8 F; z8 z6 H' Z; x7 R8 \
heartily enjoying the holiday treats.?
# U! W4 ~: O! h3 u: o+ T  x?Another strategy is to bring - bake or buy - low calorie Christmas cookies
4 Z0 x8 O$ j$ O0 _7 b5 Aand candies to work to counteract others that are being offered. Since eating
+ ?" r' I6 L* @) B+ e$ M& s. Jhealthy is highly encouraged, health-conscious cookies will not be looked down
4 v- I3 n% ?# H- Iupon so long as they taste great. A box of sugar-free Christmas chocolate
% v  r1 v3 i: F5 p/ f5 W. _candies for example will look just as delightful as regular chocolate candies. . a( L4 S0 Z, J8 g8 @- s6 D
It's interesting to note that in a poll sponsored by the National Confectioners

Dinner, where larger quantities and selection of food is available, the 'Eating 1 u  ]0 \" r% Y8 {; n2 d! o, N
on a Budget' plan means that serving portions and the choice of food selected

At a party where more desserts and sweets are likely to be available, a few of " c# r$ b* T4 N: O% H. E6 w& l5 l
the selections can be sampled. If the urge to try everything can't be resisted,

somewhat true for Christmas Dinners. One big difference is that the food served

can always say truthfully that the stomach is full.

from food and your soul full of joy from sharing another memorable holiday
