What Makes Christmas Magical

are distant memories. Hearty indulgence in the many foods shared at Christmas
/ Q( [+ x1 k& e0 V( ztherefore doesn't produce the same feelings of guilt. Nevertheless, its not a " I: ^& _* _( t' v8 z
pleasant thought to start the New Year carrying any extra pounds. So why then
* V& s+ l9 k9 [eat yourself into a resolution to 'take off a few extra pounds' if you can 8 P3 B3 Z  T8 E2 f
smartly avoid it?3 N/ u+ n; E* Q4 _1 {( t3 A& e
?Whether it's sharing cookies and candies at work, or having an evening out , e7 W* l! D& @/ o, h
at a party or dinner, you can have Christmas food and enjoy it. While you seem   e2 ~1 K. E9 j+ [4 {6 @
to be eating heartily with a smile, the key is to have a secret strategy of ; ?- E8 }. Z8 d& ~* ?( W+ K
moderation. It involves sticking to a plan that can be called 'Eating on a $ G7 J3 z4 L' L3 @9 W* Z
Budget.'

risk appearing like the Grinch who stole Christmas if your response will always
( v, O& k5 ~1 C) zbe something like, 'Uh..no..bah humbug' all the time that some Christmas goodies 7 B" w6 K7 a/ m; j) J( U
are offered. It will seem as if you aren't in the spirit of the holidays
( [& v1 H: V% ]: Pespecially since at that time of year everyone is usually in a festive and more
' U. l. _( B' U: Yrelaxed mood, and the pace at work is usually slower. & P% z+ }5 E4 F& }( ?2 k
?A practical way to partake in Christmas goodies, for example, is to
8 D: L- s( T2 @6 c3 m( c& }0 z3 b* `substitute some holiday cookies for say the bagel that you usually have with
' x$ l. T; I; K. Nbreakfast or for a mid-morning snack. And instead of just taking one cookie,
0 v$ h2 b$ b. v- r. ?from the platter, which is noticeable and likely will encourage a colleague to
* b) P, d2 \7 D; |tell you to have more, take three instead. That's where the plan can come into
* \4 g4 ]( B/ |* M% M4 ^play. You can then enjoy the cookies over two or more hours,ed hardy hoodies, because nobody will
7 e" [3 D0 p$ }" L8 x! |: \be watching how you really eat. You can always have a few candies, one cookie or 6 o8 j- v8 S& a* C# p/ R# i
a cookie and a half by your desk and that way it will seem as if you are 3 T" v& t7 Q, n& a
heartily enjoying the holiday treats.? : E  ]* v4 q  u! G5 L
?Another strategy is to bring - bake or buy - low calorie Christmas cookies
) ]9 n2 k# U4 x* }! gand candies to work to counteract others that are being offered. Since eating
8 k6 b5 F" A  V( V# f7 T$ bhealthy is highly encouraged, health-conscious cookies will not be looked down & h7 t* M2 L2 g5 H; o& d$ Q1 V9 _% z
upon so long as they taste great. A box of sugar-free Christmas chocolate $ H% H8 t% O, I0 T( O9 {1 d3 {8 O/ w
candies for example will look just as delightful as regular chocolate candies. / B4 q% Z: b3 G( @) K
It's interesting to note that in a poll sponsored by the National Confectioners

Dinner, where larger quantities and selection of food is available, the 'Eating

should be carefully watched. % N7 X9 v* w" ^8 D1 X: y! r
At a party where more desserts and sweets are likely to be available, a few of 5 e& C+ y3 T% b% x6 N
the selections can be sampled. If the urge to try everything can't be resisted, ( N( T4 u6 O5 f: Z) ^" p: k0 Z
then do so, but then second helpings have to be severely limited. The same is
3 m& @! M4 N; B5 p; R1 @* Ssomewhat true for Christmas Dinners. One big difference is that the food served
