Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are

innovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops3 H8 ~3 @* N6 g
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look. }( K8 s; n( p N+ t: m; @" {" Z
carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
& \ H& o1 B, e! b& g: S/ @guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and' M/ O9 F! C! N1 v# n
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
( t& \1 B" q$ u5 e3 hmarket forces to prevail.

, M( j7 k; u% `The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has
$ z1 V# Y9 q: O# Vchosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in
! D6 T; r/ P9 c/ N2 c+ l% Dline with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
6 {7 b9 P7 l/ B/ C# Icompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that% l$ k! k4 l: ], V) q7 V
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.3 S& P9 V3 l2 I- X1 ]8 p
