Alberta is home to many foreign-educated immigrant engineers. These

difficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not

What is the practice?

experience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or

• technical English language skills9 K! l/ F& R* m3 l
• engineering-related training delivered at NAIT:- G8 P& \, ]% m7 X
􀂉 450 hours of in-class time

and recognition of professional qualifications in the engineering

Each member of the ETIP partnership contributes their expertise in order to

Edmonton immigrant community.6 k f/ B+ w q4 F' q
• NAIT delivers engineering technologist education applicable to the

• ASET provides professional recognition of the qualifications of ETIP

9 F: U: x! c4 S$ [; r( A4 MWhat is the evidence of success?, |0 z8 U" K1 U1 \6 a$ d
As of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have& K6 R; b- S1 d M, P
found engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.
# v& M& ?$ V; c. s2 c; G$ ^2 }In 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of
% L6 L% _, D; B/ J2 }graduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,, d4 N T- d) ]) B/ ?
with over 90% employed at three months post-graduation.2 s0 J7 C" i! p# [
