The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
' D1 ^9 e: }0 q d" e( TRoles and Functions
~0 }5 \: U1 V6 b, s; O, ~' }The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the% T: m: W/ `) K1 |* A3 k
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the& e0 \% N% ^3 C1 E* t6 \" S
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has/ e* ^; X" t. E l1 R0 z$ Y, E
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
$ T9 a% ~4 @+ B9 z" Ioperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
1 r+ ?# ~' T* l+ Q8 D7 @board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
2 I- p. n# B: v+ vconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
2 p z/ A# P/ | eemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
" d7 ]6 w2 M) F8 v Z4 i- xstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
" A& b* c9 I( k# \5 V: f( m; Iall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.) b! A) L7 z, H7 ], _- \3 u. M7 c, o

Functions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the6 e: H9 W! t( b" V6 N8 o
officers of the Coalition/ [2 [4 ~* c* [5 |( y; ]
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
7 {8 ?$ u w* e% e2 X8 Q7 Norganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
1 @5 }9 I& c3 aand public institutions% X- ?: h6 E% {- b% f
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
+ h" t) A/ _ x! Q3 l5 E+ jfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives' Q( H$ X# o( X' A6 k. C
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
5 `6 s. ^4 c4 L4 q+ [% _6 c! vorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with0 ]3 I% b9 t, @' E( n8 i

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic( H1 M: ~/ d, `
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society2 y0 ]! V4 S5 b5 q* R$ G, V
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working1 D4 C2 M! l, @. ?0 ~
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
0 _0 z5 n6 g8 f& }9 A, q$ A5 e1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its$ _0 x: j6 ^( O$ }2 V& @9 X
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of( P. u) b8 w1 }* \# q7 ~: `* \
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
4 g7 u2 f" l3 t! F1 amembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.# Y' Q4 o# u9 x2 I
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the# Z5 d# [; n$ K1 Z) C. L! y' _/ q

% V$ b, a2 u/ v( ~9 C" v' U) x( n3 zRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board& l3 `4 o; ?' J/ u0 Z4 W i
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
( m$ f3 a M) |implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating# {9 @, y7 o! Z' T! ?9 {; J0 n7 R
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.0 B2 W( B( \( [+ h7 R8 u
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
" U( r) `, ] G2 Iaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should+ U, E; h, I9 t
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
3 `# F, b( h% l0 X) {: ~2 |participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
) Q7 y2 K% Q vfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of& Z9 g3 @% f6 a
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
6 N: m2 R2 F6 O, s& jstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
& ?& X. B" d' } l6 Tmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of3 e" |; H5 O j% c6 y: Z$ q& N
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
: X9 ?# L. Z# i2 g0 x8 cpolicies already adopted

for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
