; V2 p+ T$ M" C. vRoles and Functions) {- s) K- F1 R4 c# F: l2 d6 ?+ M
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
( ^: i/ m6 W1 }$ Zorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the( S! L2 }2 F0 f, O9 H1 Q; e0 H
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
: R: o1 X& n! m9 S& Zthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,6 L1 \" l+ y. M, z8 _
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular& B" n6 y. t o6 |6 p+ \8 H% H+ N
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is: d) o6 l7 A; G
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
' |' E/ N0 T2 O |& R, P6 demployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
( j1 a4 V, f! B, `. {staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
' N. |/ o2 u8 eall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:1 J2 `- x3 j! f; O! q6 Q" U& m# o
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the/ H+ E a" c4 z+ X
officers of the Coalition& K" j. _ j% D5 |
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
) v, w3 g! I U/ Yorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
7 q1 S* z8 q8 V6 ^9 {+ Xand public institutions6 F2 K# P8 K/ t" t% z7 e
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
/ O* q7 m& F. U% d l) b+ Efunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives2 R4 b* e, k, X x
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
: \0 P$ Z9 r" W$ ~1 i5 X0 @organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with+ l2 a+ _1 l! v [& H0 {% r

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic! W( a& u& @. r. o6 g, j( d
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society2 N" R0 r: c: r% o" J X5 a
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
& l: d, m% Z* O- A, }7 w. wwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically: b8 C) C k" q. T( @
diverse backgrounds. F7 B4 u7 V- Q: U6 e* l. [
. w$ O `/ A& jAdministrative responsibilities:+ C1 h# C1 n0 I) N: [3 C5 I( A
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
( [3 @' E$ E4 U5 a9 A" Jregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
* m% N# T0 ]$ y, G& H1 O' Wdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the& o2 ~1 ]) K# h/ w. G
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
1 C5 c" u, I0 P: f6 ~2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

" W- r2 D7 p: }# |Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
) N4 Q! Z( r8 b# }6 BAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to. T6 O; u/ ^5 K% D4 u$ s1 e
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
3 P7 z: ^) i+ `& Voperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.7 s6 r/ _* \0 q8 Z
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and3 d# q+ s$ x9 C* D
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
3 h: E8 {* \$ m: Fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership/ q1 C3 G' @. E6 [, }
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
- V# w% S) B: U( v( Ofacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of& z, ?% j! S' f( O9 d
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial, w% T7 l) ^- W, P- ]" k, {
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
7 E. X( M+ Y% v. H! \' dmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' S/ K/ c, S* |% \0 N0 A- c
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of( J2 O& z' P. K: _/ J3 T4 B
policies already adopted

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles: v4 B9 ]! w, Z, h) P7 i5 n
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates& X* R& t2 b3 P" }
of funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

Pay Range & Terms
