The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
% i6 u, j! k- c0 C9 z& F2 ORoles and Functions
( C& Q d$ @: d5 c: RThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
7 T; o# A# v' H3 W4 N/ W& \) Iorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
- e) [0 [( U; s+ S# `5 g' woperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has( R+ Z; `% E: f ?2 f* r& Z$ ?
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
0 ~ j4 W* {% G7 b+ Goperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular+ n8 S5 f' s, z) R5 p
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
0 [& N( R. U, @ q- G5 p; aconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
( W: M* e; t+ Y: f0 Hemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires+ w$ b$ t; W# W; y+ C
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
7 J( S& N' I+ H8 c, J* Dall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:5 } z+ D% P. y# N0 Q- D
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:# {/ T J6 t1 B/ a) ^
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
0 U: b6 D% G \/ S# ]: hofficers of the Coalition! Y$ ^" j$ t* x( H
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural2 K& c! ~) Z3 L9 q% R
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations0 y. i! F6 O/ A( P3 m% ]
and public institutions; ]" b( z" Q- r d
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
6 F: X8 m6 [0 Yfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives4 w. f# Q6 s2 l; J! U2 e
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
& j/ ?$ d4 r' b9 A7 Borganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with( S. _1 [0 ?3 v7 H! `) h

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community+ f" h( B" y( X

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

3 I4 ]% A, K0 {* gAdministrative responsibilities:6 @0 ^/ l+ L/ Y3 V& s/ T6 S9 t; Y# g
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its0 T) J" a+ ]7 ~7 p+ ^3 Z
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of8 w2 O) k; r8 {( t7 C
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
4 h- _1 Y# Y& a; r4 b5 u8 xmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
+ G c& ^: v. V, r: R3 A, K2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the) F" g/ A+ J$ W, U

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
- G" l3 E- k, r0 z& iAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to# N1 a, ~$ D7 m, ~! M+ c
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
" @! t0 o" f+ goperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.- T8 n; R) k( x3 Y+ }
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
/ Y3 j: T3 |$ H- |: ]) Iaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
. G: s) s' f& Cbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# ]( W6 L) j" |9 U
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
3 n+ z* I. C) U2 D. kfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of! v6 D: X! Q$ H# _4 m& K" J) C+ m, Z
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial' |) u, w0 w0 P! R
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all' a8 t3 `" @4 O
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of/ H- [' n7 ?0 L/ j
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of6 q1 |" y- Y" f1 H, N' \
policies already adopted( Z9 P# ~6 N3 l% Q

Pay Range & Terms
