The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition/ ^2 ?" y% a; ^4 Q( S
Roles and Functions
3 N6 p' k5 J6 `% z6 Q5 mThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
) i) T$ e# j% j Z: Korganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the" m5 |4 o% { e; b$ J) @9 @
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has* V/ q# W$ ~! i z$ d
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
z! G* u y- C# _! Joperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular7 i* g" M1 n$ a6 W
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is- e; m1 z% f1 D, V U
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an4 h, G! H* G5 I! a6 y% Q' a6 w; ~- Z6 ^
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
: k$ I! u9 G* N8 K2 h! tstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend# r# W" W" {1 G$ k C
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following: o p9 G7 H; [# ?2 \
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the/ ]! l! t$ c8 R0 F7 ^/ i! v5 S4 ~% h2 `
officers of the Coalition4 u! q6 u; c+ w' X
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
9 f& t9 S- @- _" r! torganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations G7 V; W! K! J x( f8 P6 h
and public institutions( |4 Q% |$ x" o) t2 b: T6 [
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
2 j% c# I: o% u) n# ~* F" Yfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
5 N. a: W0 u5 o4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

Administrative responsibilities:) v) p; r3 V' C0 V0 U Z
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its4 T/ Q2 O5 ?* ]+ o$ R1 y
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of3 l+ ^+ j* L' q# [" H
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
5 B: R4 c6 d* d% Kmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition. G& c! Q: X2 O# s' R
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the" t3 ], E$ X/ [) ]4 `; v) f; i

% r9 p4 O# n5 Y9 i9 n5 YRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
3 ~, r* j0 C$ ^6 x2 x( I3 z* u5 fAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
+ g! n+ p$ U$ T7 {3 mimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
4 K- y2 B1 t; Yoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
$ q0 o1 O* m5 Y N/ cThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
4 v L( I5 K4 y9 | qaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should: W) f# o J- b! u0 d
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
6 v( c- {6 J! x4 c9 ?; @participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
! v+ B& n/ | S0 k/ L( |7 n2 F! afacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
/ d, O0 W+ U+ \7 J* Rdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial; ^" X% i# C' l3 w3 j; r' J, T
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all5 R$ w8 Z7 |# S& N2 N3 I9 y
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of6 e% h) A( K- w! v- Z3 m% k
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
