Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

$ z- ]: P/ \  F2 n: JDiagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
& a. p& b9 ?' O: f- F( L' {' A6 NOperating machinery in a safe and effective manner
Providing daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
Assembling and starting engines
7 U, c) M8 j# [3 sDiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
1 z' M* @- O: zPreparing inspection, work and maintenance reports
Performing other functions as assigned

Frequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds

Welding skills
Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
May need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
5 n, t. }9 L4 n& sVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
