Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

1 `& c3 o7 o( p# q$ POperating machinery in a safe and effective manner
Providing daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts

% E2 w. Z$ ?0 l: DDiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports

4 B/ M- s) p1 v: h& cFrequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds

' x4 o" q  R2 ^$ w* g, i& MPhysical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions
; y% F0 ], O  O) K2 TRegular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations

Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
  H1 S+ l& Y# V4 l" Y3 V2 U% g: RMay need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
) T; E2 Q/ y  ^" z2 x) o: T) h. ~Visual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
