T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip % @8 X- \; o3 X! ^: _) U
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 5 l$ j( D! T) X  s1 ~: M8 C
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on . x! g  U$ c- N6 ~( e7 _' @6 ?
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
) @0 }+ q1 }7 S8 T) Z) Dand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation# I* H6 O% F# h. N4 N) ~, c
 Learn how to access community services and programs# Z! E1 {, v' y' H. Y
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills

Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.2 N( o. }, |, Q- k
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily. ]- V0 G# D3 @, b) b
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily  O8 o, d# S8 h& L5 A1 v. E3 t7 ]
7 B! m* l# s, O) G& ~) n  h# T
Who can participate?, o' o) b2 ?1 M& b: x* h/ f
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
' R# a% R; f' [( ^+ s3 t/ {( ?2 D' E9 d& }% J! c
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?$ Q$ ]! q# y" }9 ~5 g$ D
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

1 P% f+ d8 U1 A0 eVolunteer’s Duties:) ?! _- I! D# e/ r8 |4 b

+ g6 a0 O' k6 ?2 |9 s Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
( {7 c$ @- ^( F& l) n Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
) X) }* B. C4 [9 P. f5 v Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities) M* z3 B) m7 n% w( M6 X
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions6 x& q$ x$ Q! k! F: ]* D! |9 I; b9 Y  w
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic3 n$ R0 K3 q, g) E2 N$ {! e8 l
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
3 e" U; ?$ B( n; K9 J& N Assist in program planning! C3 [. o2 m( [# w0 q6 l4 \
 Be a role model# P1 a. A) a& o+ [/ X
) S* P) ?9 N3 z( l( I& i, ~' h. D
Volunteer Commitment:3 o. k8 E, y* g% c+ P( K4 N/ Y
% @" p& r1 @- z8 J$ \
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
% r2 t" T! E, @, r4 X' N+ }0 ? One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer! I. O) N+ C% k  g2 T

Attitude/Skills Requirements:' F7 K: W- I3 W2 F

) v$ I* O  K, y8 o0 Q* X. U% _ Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
: q  }. t' e0 g Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program0 F% u: c- i/ R0 p
 A team player
. T2 e0 r2 w* ~' { Able to work independently with minimum supervision2 f  k, {% g( l
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families1 v) X# u! j- q+ H) f% m% D2 x
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk- }6 J, }" k* a5 ]! s( d
