T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip 2 |# Q3 F* q1 m  u" Q" G+ @
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
) u6 E( [7 ?0 p5 l- R% aopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on % h, t) E. T2 p8 c0 ~
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, 1 n0 \7 X% _+ ?# `& _. z  _6 G
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.+ z2 g( @( F  b

What will take place in the sessions?
( P3 O6 Z# S8 Y3 V. {- Q$ MEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

3 j  g7 m7 |! J8 ?3 bThese activities will enable youth to:* ^8 H# ~" w1 M% p
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
6 R1 i) K9 S" e  z; G9 w. B& N Learn how to access community services and programs
7 ], a/ k. H2 }, G0 f3 {6 f Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills9 C+ ^; r$ Q6 _% ~* C5 j3 k! F
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

- [& l" g8 o- t2 ]5 ^4 SProgram Schedule:
% R% g( G* d* zRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
* V! U: l- [7 w" ~* \5 t5 ]8 z: RSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
- d+ |7 ]5 D3 `( d1 W                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily( I5 F8 N" F% w. d0 ]% d8 t/ n

& q8 \! m  r# L2 H6 l, r/ UWho can participate?
2 H1 B0 Y  C& kAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.+ O- b# k: X8 P* g1 i

6 c7 c' x+ ~* \9 D* AWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
5 @) p5 x/ |% X: DIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.( ?2 M# r7 ?' m

! N9 f% Y$ a4 I6 wVolunteer’s Duties:! }7 T" b- A! t, ^! j
! r9 b' O9 v# q' B# S
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
% I/ P" d# Y4 ~" C0 ? Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
! b- E, S, L7 b+ V# A9 ^ Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities0 x2 e' Y! g* U& C3 X9 `
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
5 R$ C2 g% x, m Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
, s# p) D- |$ _/ J# A+ \+ G Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
; T1 l  B7 O0 m Assist in program planning
0 _9 z) [1 g. Q) t5 c# n Be a role model
+ o. V( Y9 T, E4 O8 P5 E  T/ r! h* W+ G, S* Y
Volunteer Commitment:; D# T3 R- J! r/ T

 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
% `' s& W7 e# H3 p* |& r$ f One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
" E* {8 T& u9 N1 A( s) C% }* d& M9 B, u' f7 \- ^: y
Attitude/Skills Requirements:- f# P0 W, @" m( e. Y$ f

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator2 Q* z8 G+ n2 [7 H. Z, D; ]2 l
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program6 S* s3 A5 D2 h# p) I
 A team player
, D6 |+ ]- z- X) y, z8 n  Y5 ^ Able to work independently with minimum supervision: u! }3 ~! ^7 [" x
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
6 k/ q& q) O" X# f4 n% O6 V Willing to work with youth including youth at risk" B* q* @: i; q
