it all depand on what you want. a diamond ring can be broken down into the following 4 categories:
& _/ W9 p" }) a" ?' M \3 s M
" a. b2 V# X7 }. | l0 o; b3 B; Jsize . X W. z5 Z# r# j! S

clarity
5 J6 X6 {/ |+ ]- kcut
& E. i1 ~5 Q# j9 ~; w# Q& v- D5 Z1 \( }' v* M# s2 E
if you want a very high clarity and colour, then $10K CAD may only get you a 0.5 ct diamond if you don't care as much about colour and clarity, then you can easily get a 1.0 ct or bigger ring. typically, girls care more about the clarity and size.

the cutting of the diamond is also very important. a well cut 0.5 ct diamond may look as big or maybe even bigger on surface than a 1.0 ct diamond if it wasn't cut properly. 4 u0 m/ y: L* F
, N/ i& q- i9 h3 z/ r2 |/ `5 ythe solitary princess diamond is the most popular style for an engagement ring. solitaty means a single large diamond (not a whole bunch of small diamonds or dusts but with the total weight added to a 1.0 ct) and princess means it's cut into a round shape on top (not square or oval shape)0 _) V* F1 K3 w' S H3 t
/ [' k O$ D) m: |# Pthe band (ring itself) can be found in white gold 14K or 18K. typically, the better the diamond, the better band it comes with. ie <$5000 ring usually comes with a 14K band but >$5000 ring will come with a 18K band.
