of the new Nikon D800. Established medium-format image quality is* ~$ R7 y8 z C- \
now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3/ n+ a* e" G3 J1 A, U; |: q- v" K( k; c! V; i
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
- [# l R0 E# w% @ awithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color& f; V# y( f7 X5 \8 ^ d8 @$ @2 {$ Z: x
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance- T7 H2 Y4 [9 H3 \! c# l
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
4 x+ K4 C: i/ m/ Kallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject& D$ K4 Z3 d$ I
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
2 }2 M9 f9 @; P# S' d* Gwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
% Y! B# S4 Y4 s! d/ W6 fimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
z' D3 W% `/ x+ @9 ?5 S& |( Qwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
6 j+ `; Q! F3 j# sconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
u8 @0 ^) W; R8 Z) {* `/ jbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,* n8 v: V @3 x' s8 O& o" v
thanks to the D800.
1 i1 m$ k$ E# v8 [5 F( E& s2 A# EWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,- U3 F# {7 f* Q
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
9 c' L# b+ L& l$ |& b+ Urange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces5 \1 T$ _& w U6 v; @
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a, M5 B9 b3 w5 v' Z7 o
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
0 Q7 D# f1 j1 Q9 d' wwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
- D" x- a5 X* C/ X- L: CAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
1 o, U1 N8 L( P* `. ~' hhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is) y4 y3 l0 @" v* r$ @1 R$ I
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
7 Q S# [, u0 d( Malso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New' d% o g* v! c5 g% H+ k
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features* M( `# s# M) O+ q T# x) m* ?
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality0 a+ b1 \. x$ R. J2 ?5 k( x
prints and video.' C9 N% \" _' I3 B$ ]& [, y
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
2 S9 h9 c+ u& U; s- Q/ jnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
1 E* C; `% N, ~$ G# P1 U0 \$ w! vare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using r7 P/ Y7 w: q; E% {- K, D
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first; d& k7 F8 W* d9 F2 C
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
& s! z- H+ j0 G+ A' ]like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of7 n/ O! O v3 ^; W c0 q
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I v1 Z: ?' P0 O2 w0 Y3 F
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as1 l9 Q; C- s3 i0 J, l
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse9 S W% h3 {2 e& W* N
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add

N) x G$ v" {D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express

As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
* J- w% x6 w4 \6 ~9 Rcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal
% S- M+ q% o) uartistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for+ H" ?/ a4 O% k" ~ h8 `
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital
$ y1 |8 N* G: I3 Gcamera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till9 `. _5 M7 O) r9 \7 E' y
now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions+ \3 ~0 B$ ^1 l+ c2 C
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior" c3 o. W" b, j- o1 I6 b
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for
2 M- T K, ]2 h" u2 V% l4 ?architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
?7 Z0 u! Y/ Z- C X, X- jperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly: {2 g6 X# \) a5 u7 f2 A
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
5 h. }: h. I# T5 d2 e' c9 o& ?5 Kto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional9 q! b* D; `, w. Z7 R6 l
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality. l% A1 C% ?7 d
