Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

: E' X& i3 \( _' _9 hmegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution1 c+ N( O* v* O; D4 z. D$ t
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
; x C! g8 L4 J: G7 ]matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance% Z0 h2 F' u$ s8 \0 i
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
/ K$ ?: u9 x" U, b d; j: Sallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject8 P6 V' N7 j; f( b6 [0 h
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
1 o% L6 D. A8 H* @8 `% `! C2 Swas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum* Y( I6 w, ~) c4 ^
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
1 t, C! B' `+ A3 n H- z) dwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
1 }% j/ A# L# G/ F- lconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown$ A: J. \1 t! F* a2 ^
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
+ m- @: x% c' a% ^thanks to the D800.
@: ~8 H: o- ?/ c7 uWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,* I8 v# N) F& K. G8 \
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
' \) e* I2 h/ G* E) T3 trange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces" i% ~) I6 a2 D% i7 d4 |; v
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a( W! m& f& P6 C
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
8 G' J( w& Z# q) \well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
3 e j" Q# `4 ~/ a8 GAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor @, e! B. O K6 s0 L0 a
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
H. g( D( e Q9 K4 `easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while, a- a# R5 }$ ~/ g( e
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
- ^/ j. }: o/ B8 \cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features4 P: m% \- j' x) k# O. G1 j
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality( q9 f, ^# |) n# H; G
prints and video.
( ~. C2 h- L" j6 ?" _7 p$ f! T4 HTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is1 j9 T2 i1 H1 Z" h$ b% x) [2 I
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models% o4 D+ Z8 K/ M+ b
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using8 v4 d( \* X: t
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
6 ^, Q: z5 u! A( G) |& J( {" m& isight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws4 t; |1 C1 p+ }1 ]: W: w1 G, k" h
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of, M( z, G2 F2 B' k8 ]6 {2 s
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
0 d9 u+ V- H: x: Fam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
) {% A: X ]$ K, _though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
+ S4 B0 e; V( s' B) bphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
5 G& ^, T( ?* G+ i- o7 _' dtremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the2 s! I) C+ ?- y& G
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express: o8 e; {, F2 K# t0 i
is that now I will think differently about the images I make./ Q" q0 }0 R1 n& K8 j2 _
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
8 Q/ m% V; |! A1 q% ]compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal ~/ @) Y! a$ M- j! D
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for+ O, v. j) E E/ K, [) m
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital; x/ U4 I5 c+ p8 ^% b4 Q6 a
camera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till

and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior$ @% Z0 o: w/ y( C4 u' c! b
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for
% @2 A% g" j" ~' O8 u) J( ~. Farchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they3 W0 G' T1 j, v! Q; ~; Y6 [
perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly
- G T1 |% a" C0 g2 Fclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility% A. m3 i7 O I
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional( T/ q, @' }+ @
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality) l# S% {2 m6 e
