Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
3 o6 T* h- P, ?; ~: }megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution, `* t! r/ j* J! ]5 y) ]# G" F
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
+ @1 a* Z% V; {7 o* X; W- ematrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
9 o7 `/ ^% r6 Y2 l) Nin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D8006 [& j( _' P- D' y0 \
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
+ p" k5 T( R+ \: A4 Awithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography+ u, S! d* Y" B0 k1 G3 U+ A
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum9 z7 N& H, _& K4 Q* J( o- i+ \
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
* u6 t% {! k* _# Iwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and2 d- L" j7 Z$ j1 |" d
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
6 r0 h, [8 w4 m, Bbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
( g; n, {7 O/ l7 v. H" wthanks to the D800.# n3 ~* v1 R' N2 D0 g Z0 r& j
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
. ]0 c8 x' @' b36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
2 H2 z+ W, n! Trange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
3 V1 q* D- W- ?: Y. G+ cthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a L X6 v, D" O
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as5 N' R" Q% Y) ^9 i6 A E0 ^
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
. o* I) W0 u* i# g: _" }2 mAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
5 {- F2 |/ D5 ^- m) jhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
! Y+ U+ ?. Q: M3 aeasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
! T# g2 P3 P) Valso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New6 B2 m0 h a, m% @* }
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features+ X' y0 X u4 M- N; P, Z
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
/ Z' W$ c0 F$ t. g" ?4 u! W6 P9 |prints and video.4 p& D; o( F. u- c
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
& K: x6 K# ~. Jnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models" h( s( E: x( \6 L+ U* k
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using% W3 k3 n; `3 f
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first8 b2 j0 f! C5 k$ V
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
0 P! ^3 v' c1 olike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
) P/ ]9 D2 X) G* B$ v( Y$ zacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I; ^6 A% ~9 M7 e) v/ p0 g
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as' i: S8 P0 X4 q S
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
( Y9 H$ f1 @2 s ~; S* k dphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
& P/ A x3 U5 R- Z5 i9 k4 `tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the$ ?" Z% s: |0 n7 ?2 `$ u
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express- `1 i' ^! t- y9 t, a8 }6 L
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.4 p9 P' T0 V. B) K( G
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
" O+ d, ~- f; k3 W. ]) H3 gcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal
4 h( }* h) Z4 v- dartistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for. R6 q7 w, j' q I6 u% ^8 Y* C
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital

and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior# `9 d$ K1 ]; V- g+ `* z3 e
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for& n) Q o5 O4 ?% l& g9 [
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
1 ]# u& E' k- }8 Sperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly" ^6 B6 |$ K# B* T& A- q( \" ]# x7 e6 g
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
% `' K: B; c- ?3 w' w& Z, xto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional
