Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3

9 Q; j( N8 I& S2 p5 Twithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color6 K" w) [$ T, R
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
4 E$ }9 k, ^$ Win low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
& G* [ D: h" H$ A8 i; l% J3 @& aallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject9 a& Z+ T) ~! R- w8 y$ l; y% h
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography8 \/ j. C. W0 d7 d7 E1 k% G1 [
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
d: ]' \0 |, n7 E$ d: ^8 o, |image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was& t9 C( l e2 n: x) X( I
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and

before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,! g0 r" g" D8 v

When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,, o( M) B) j2 @5 s% F/ G
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic: K' V* u( E& d8 y* V7 R
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces1 E0 i6 ]1 C% ^& s. b
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
( |) X1 b) u4 t h& fD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as

Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
0 P7 Y$ n1 A! j5 M" W, C+ t9 \has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
; P5 x% M: E. Eeasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while( g+ x9 l, w8 s0 L% j- `2 A
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New' `+ e$ c4 t! C! ], ^3 P& O
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features" o, v8 V7 {3 \5 w3 y
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality/ m: r2 J, m7 q0 W" Z
prints and video.( [- x2 ^9 K2 j
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
7 T0 h& e. E* h5 u9 t2 Q$ d" t! J. t) e. mnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
$ h5 n6 q( L8 Iare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
) Y* t x+ t! e+ S! ucountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first' E/ T, _, h2 [$ K# I) M5 e
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
! F' ~! o0 r3 X& a t6 A$ tlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
8 g9 V1 i' }5 X* U5 U1 d& T( }acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I4 G; s2 q9 w6 k& O, ^
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as8 h( i3 K. Q, d3 h6 B$ a
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse

tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the: _0 \* N7 l3 C
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express

As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,% G, y- h6 L: ~% l c
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal

clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
/ I/ X2 { A `to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional

to a new level. What a new companion!
