Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3! ?5 j) g2 u1 H
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
7 U: v. _5 b$ M/ t8 u, [! iwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color k' c2 u0 G1 Q. |# p8 j
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance4 u' i8 T8 v, _9 N* q
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
/ M- q% K2 U/ b. {8 t/ R. kallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject+ t, p C# f$ v0 |3 ]; S
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography7 o. |: I/ F; I- e0 o5 ]
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
/ b9 H5 O& f2 P9 qimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was; P) V$ D2 u: [9 W
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
* h8 D6 T7 y/ I( [- |convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
: o# L9 Y( w/ l* ]1 xbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
& ?+ f7 P8 V$ H5 ^: C+ [( g, j7 \8 Ethanks to the D800.8 @1 D, C3 j9 D9 G' U x+ J
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
* E% ]8 K2 u7 y36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
7 e* u& e g* h& e8 _range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
& n1 N6 M4 }! O% d/ ethe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a

1 R& ]- P; I2 Neasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
# S; |* |- }' Palso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New# W; \! d4 v- T+ J V. \
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features% b! _( M7 I6 o3 I# x
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
) a/ j! D2 G, N9 k Y0 s* gprints and video.. T: V7 p" W4 [& F
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
U( ^9 [2 E' G# h) g+ hnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models/ E. ~3 O" u9 c" G) c& o( b! x
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
8 a. m3 o1 `3 h3 Q! T- O. Dcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first! @- Q( D4 a: ?; D$ d
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws1 P* v( _1 @1 Y! j
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
+ |3 i! G P1 a- W, V7 g Nacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
5 k8 N" X# R jam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as

photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add

; e9 O) E9 }- r9 e& s1 pD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express8 z4 G! j$ W7 n' P
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
