Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

6 K7 s; g+ L) L( I- Zwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color |! w+ D- n& w
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance% H1 q' `9 K; Y5 t
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800+ `1 m+ Q+ O! N% E* j' U
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject0 Q/ k' z" r) a6 S( b8 H8 o& c' _
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
% F% A" f1 m. D$ e* E8 q- n% Nwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum$ D* {; X; W$ P9 }$ B, s' G
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
' P( W" ~1 x3 X4 j/ o& w9 lwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
# `7 J4 m) j0 Q% I+ v& uconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
; Q. M5 Y6 s) {8 I( Tbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,% l) G& c6 W0 x; W" C4 r4 t6 n% h
thanks to the D800.
6 ~: O5 N+ D# Z& ^, b3 Q fWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
+ G- X; A8 |( r# R36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic% X, q) A; ?: e* P1 g7 x
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces! l6 e: A/ Q2 {$ ?
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a* M" Y6 D) ]6 L4 f
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as# q, y, D. p! m, A2 D
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
* [2 b6 d% ?" A/ p) X& T3 a2 IAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
0 p$ Q. D f; W# K& V7 Bhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
F* m4 P/ D% g4 ^" U& e- X" Keasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
. c) h, {* }' [& k [( x; v' p. x+ N- Dalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New" k0 j! x: C6 C- _
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
$ i& S- ]$ x" [, _in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
) ~/ ^; }. ]9 g% Q( Rprints and video.
/ x. z( F9 u9 rTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
7 @3 H9 y1 A% s1 c. x9 K8 l' Tnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models" S8 n/ f( J" k# g! b0 U
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
7 f- B# s1 j: n6 E$ Z. Y4 T$ [4 fcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first7 ]8 _6 n: R$ e9 l6 E. t
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
" n/ m1 U% D. f' |3 @' F$ ulike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of: y/ R* B: _3 Z# D$ w: |
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
+ z' L) `% V o5 Dam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
2 T! \7 w9 S3 Y d) L9 s0 P jthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse6 X6 O u; E4 E4 L( p+ @
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add3 v, r' Y2 U" T3 a+ }
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
' d! p/ `8 _: ]4 @D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express E! r' r! p, l( l e+ E- ?9 I
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
. X+ ]6 ]" m4 m- C# l' I+ cAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,$ Z3 L) I2 P' J) v
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal/ `* i& U4 W7 J! c4 _
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for

and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior! B. v9 x4 ]6 x+ U
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for
0 ], H5 x0 t7 u9 D9 Farchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they' z0 |3 \& b: ]) w: x0 r7 f
perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly$ o) t2 m3 J8 P8 q; @& w
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
|7 x4 B' c: P) Wto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional
" J9 a& [$ P r0 S* Srange of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality4 ?/ Q1 s, n) H- Y, g, J8 F, ?
