Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
& a" G$ q3 @" Y+ Zmegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution. @6 Z( ^- q e L5 l" G# T+ S
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color* {1 _+ ?0 K! L8 q; c! o2 S
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance) Y& M9 b1 c$ E# |# P) t P
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
. D% x. E; P& M! V: z2 _allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject2 c) T. Y# k7 G& o
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography o" g# o f7 ^' D+ W
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum0 o& f# e2 W4 _; f: J5 V/ m9 o
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
1 d. c" N; e3 u; q0 X7 i0 Uwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and1 ^* S- Y: C/ C" Z& f
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown* Y0 @& l, v+ o4 l7 k
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,8 e8 ~1 i, J5 w
thanks to the D800.% M: d9 F8 L( _/ Y% e8 M1 E. O1 L
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
6 G% R- s% Y3 t4 T, k, G. O2 Q36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
: _, B! c4 b a: H& |2 U8 V2 {range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
4 j) e" W3 T0 y2 ethe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
" s$ Z% t: |+ M7 U2 f0 ~% a+ sD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
7 P0 v' _& }2 q3 wwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
2 Z( q" F' \" G/ y9 |8 [" h7 p0 RAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
7 @* l5 L4 {- P5 t- ~has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is% V( [, U1 h" @6 p+ v. D# U& W
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
, g6 a/ e( D6 g2 M0 P$ Ialso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New- }/ e/ R7 w; z' s/ _- \) O
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features( @$ K! a V; V3 x9 a6 S/ b3 P6 S
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality( q1 n9 m1 W. \2 X2 M6 }5 s
prints and video.
0 `2 }% p3 O {: P+ o% |. TTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
! R! \6 L9 a: V T w, Enot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models2 ~9 R3 `( ^& L( [$ }
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
6 y1 t4 j/ @2 Z0 W% @' Icountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first3 h# d3 \ I- v; x% D$ o" R1 r6 W1 A
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws) A' J" Z0 \- {: J# a; E) x* [3 z) N4 I
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of

! }- |5 H* S4 I" q# \tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the

is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
" R4 z, f. F3 u3 qAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
% J2 ~. X4 ^6 Z/ _5 Zcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal

perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly$ |; x& s0 P( Y9 p' K5 o9 ^6 A8 Q
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility% m& f, x+ s6 ^4 J
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional6 d9 e+ q; D2 F; a" Y
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
