Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3

7 n, P# {( _2 p& o1 Gwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color- \- f: B$ i1 A9 K5 T3 B
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance- j1 K, ]( |" b/ k
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D8006 N9 ], H5 K7 j; [# y& r0 D% n
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
# [$ N3 A1 v, \% gwithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography9 y$ F0 [; y' e1 B( f
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
6 a |7 h! w# g0 I$ o! Uimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
0 M% N% x: ~# E* V* S/ [widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and! F9 I" |& ]/ k8 V# n% G
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown0 e$ F$ `2 f2 c- K
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,: f* q6 D* [$ x! H+ F6 o9 J; T* W2 i
thanks to the D800.
# W/ b* ` e7 E6 zWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
$ N# i4 I% ~' o N36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
% y! q# Q0 H3 f' q' B! `6 j3 M. s' `5 Prange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces$ P8 B3 K9 M( {& ^# n
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a) u5 S g9 H8 K3 `
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as

/ c4 p$ f4 H9 ]3 S& V7 BAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
6 L# d1 D. a( P" n8 n. l6 z8 A1 xhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
2 V2 o0 f& e, s3 o. t8 R0 e- ?easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while' g I2 q! d) I$ Z
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New9 u3 ?2 x' L1 q
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
* r1 f4 ^) }2 i8 n$ j+ F, gin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality; p q4 w7 `+ \- O% P+ m/ D( H
prints and video.9 c& @) n* W! F
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is3 [+ C1 T5 ]- e, l
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models( @4 G! f' |/ s: K' z9 ?% s2 m& g
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
. B& s1 }- `6 D& G% K' Xcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
, V/ m7 Z, o" E3 E& ~, o# Y& B- tsight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
# w1 g! w- B7 jlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of! C2 }! }: v0 P: z5 W
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I m1 z0 e! V. U
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
/ Y) _1 I. m% J) C6 m9 s0 V, ~though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse5 D4 ^" }' H$ r# u4 s" M
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
/ ~$ C: c, o$ ?4 J _) A, jtremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the" ?$ }- U; [4 i$ N+ \
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
! z/ f: s4 V1 W% R# kis that now I will think differently about the images I make.5 w! P' p. @& Z& d
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,2 s( [+ [0 |3 A- G; ?
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal0 ]; Q9 U* h" V7 v/ O) r

clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
