now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3+ U% f6 E3 j" F: s
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution+ }1 M4 B0 o5 c: P+ |; y5 R
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
' {; i+ `, d' A" i7 B4 o9 lmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
' x. f. A% d4 ^2 Vin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
( N+ B; j/ O* n0 p& @9 Jallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject5 m! V6 Z) k0 U
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography% R) b$ C* _% R. C& i7 I/ a
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum# o& C& d$ c% h9 f2 J5 [; U3 V3 C& v
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
/ p% m: q" t t3 `6 k! x A) U6 jwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and/ u7 P( S/ B! P! K
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown8 A: s4 c5 _* K2 `6 G5 F4 T
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
, J0 O7 o" O' M* Uthanks to the D800.. T' w/ G+ v* a, W8 g) T
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
; e* Q' U2 Y7 S36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
; E; u) w8 M+ N: f" o+ ]% Q$ ~" p$ qrange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces- D4 W/ a1 T3 i* i' g. F
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a; o ~: E3 h# h! ?7 u
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as/ z% ] |2 a4 z3 t
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
: r( @# d' r4 q: f: ? ^/ BAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor) g& M0 f' [! M# y0 E2 u6 `- C
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
8 q4 \- V! _! R& K+ T+ seasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while: W4 F; [6 s: ?9 G9 V
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
0 {' s7 y6 B; K- R& w, X1 G6 Xcameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
' J( Y6 ?0 P% {' N2 h! _9 Y$ Z5 fin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality8 B. A' F, e8 n6 S; L8 N; o

To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is2 q, c& T- E9 a/ v) ?6 u0 N
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models/ o: J7 k; A0 a0 B
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
- E: k$ _! ^! ^+ Lcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first% h0 ]& |; q# L/ K( Y* R! I( {- p
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws% M% S, j7 m" z9 V1 |5 M1 w/ ~
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
- m* _6 j7 D1 p3 o3 z3 yacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I" \7 `& a, `7 \9 I* n
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
