Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression3 X# C: b* H/ p1 s! M' s1 U
of the new Nikon D800. Established medium-format image quality is
# q, K3 C8 A- X$ O0 s6 jnow inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
j& S" `( G9 Zmegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution% h8 w& \- Z1 o* ~! D/ I
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
# q7 h4 w" |* l( o+ T" Kmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance: b' ]2 `; y' \# L
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
- U$ n4 } J1 oallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
# R# C( I* J( t3 S( ewithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography3 c8 X0 X) p$ ^4 C* P* D6 u+ \& v
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum" V: X# c6 h! J$ u& H9 ~! `
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was" R0 ]6 M7 r+ e4 z- e
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
% _. J l# b& t6 C9 ?8 f. {: I+ Yconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown9 g5 L& ^! w S4 \9 I( O7 F
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,

When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
2 d: w. y; c$ C2 f36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic$ H) T( ]+ k, B3 t$ @- y) {
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces4 c: T' S5 q' P
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
( T/ g; C; q. v3 QD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as( C" D+ _& T8 f2 A( [$ H6 J
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.9 F6 A+ Q6 e: }9 r' V. ~
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
7 Q! G) l. Z6 i1 H7 p) D7 R rhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is2 D/ {' q2 v+ r2 e6 K7 T
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while, y, @0 [; \1 `: @
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New' Z* K7 B1 a# v+ S t: ?. D
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
" t1 U7 j) t! t7 Iin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality8 q, D9 \/ M$ A5 W ^1 H& m. N
prints and video. B, q' C+ }4 z5 y( c' q. `8 j
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is( s8 ^$ D7 J6 }/ ^8 y
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
9 u" p' O+ j# m2 Sare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using3 X' S8 g3 n# l
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
! t2 ^+ l0 O8 Y2 j1 ?& k! B8 @$ zsight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws" r& R7 J$ v$ \# n. p
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
0 ` g: B% {( U1 b. kacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I3 z' w" u b& d; T' |1 Q4 U; o
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
$ \) E L. ~4 d% N, y9 wthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse2 v3 n' @& [9 I% L9 e* e) c9 Q
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add! Y# J1 w# A) O& F+ f
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the

is that now I will think differently about the images I make.

" x- q# r1 A7 mcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal
; F) q. |. Z* {3 Iartistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for
" t" q% c2 a" ethe high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital
9 c. J% M- {+ a9 u, l* Xcamera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till7 T: {7 u# b2 ?4 g; p
now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions9 ~- ^/ P+ j+ N; t: I
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior
) F. }+ C1 r9 d" C Y; @" Nquality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for
$ `, O9 o" C4 S; ?architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
' t7 `0 ]4 W6 wperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly$ f2 J5 j( f9 ?: h
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
1 Y/ H2 z. J" B- Wto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional4 U- s" ]5 q" v
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
