Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
4 U' M1 }6 D h# i; a. _ M! smegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
( V% I: T# \" t# \$ t4 Nwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
6 D: ^* L* ^' s+ k4 D. J kmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance' W/ f2 o7 V& g s# R/ A
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800; C6 X" a+ b( v L% Q
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject& T4 b/ c% {* B8 n0 |: n4 O
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
4 w+ w0 G: q( N8 `, W8 I U9 Twas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum$ E, i" V: p% G2 m6 m5 F
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
% |- n2 ]7 I' T' F9 r/ ^( ?widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
& a" \4 w3 I& t8 ]; v7 Econvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
0 [# `0 S, h* ~- s j' ^+ O# T3 ubefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,0 o1 {$ d7 O; W5 n, l! I+ S& s* E
thanks to the D800.: S+ v% J! b8 J+ O3 N
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
4 }+ M+ Q. }; g7 A36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic" T. U$ u& D5 w% p& Z! K/ l# R
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces+ [1 F* `+ m' j3 w6 v
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a H2 O' R6 U7 ^, Y
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
* Y3 s3 g5 P6 j H( Ewell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.: z: Y/ m- t: D$ _5 {
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
" Z# C, Y$ N" J% t ohas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
! z8 e4 f7 J: Q! T( B! J, D7 J: feasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while" ]- k4 C1 X% U+ @+ x& ]
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
2 c; |0 Q$ H& U% I& \: ccameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
$ H2 a% O2 K6 }* ^in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
2 _. o" d4 p0 ]prints and video.
! ]5 }$ q" R, W7 WTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
$ x! w: x. {" ?! _4 }not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models0 z: n1 P+ e* b7 f0 Z1 W
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using( `1 p& b) ~$ o) l4 X: Z* T
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
' B. B6 G: g; C8 M r2 Isight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws' o2 B0 U' ^& v6 @5 C9 t K: l$ c, `
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of/ m. w0 C' J* y
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I$ U" L* N2 e8 a, f0 U2 P6 a
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
e n2 c3 I1 V5 tthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
- ~0 }2 X$ p. ^ ]( w7 nphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add# l+ a, y: D1 D/ ?
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the1 ^0 B7 j8 I" `
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express( A2 t/ y, J5 f1 g1 D, _4 S
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
; y T l& J1 o/ [: e. [As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,9 D7 s" w! z0 r8 N/ _+ ?
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal, K; g( t% P$ ?6 I: r
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for

perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly

% ~0 W) v5 |! }; p8 xto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional4 n+ e( E( X( Q9 Q, t) L9 v3 d
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality; p5 ]% W# e, e; }% \. y0 Q" Z
