Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.37 b4 k. }9 { ^ y5 N. ~" N4 [
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
9 E- k. b+ t1 z& g4 _, J7 Pwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color& r% i" C* A2 u9 X$ N& c0 l+ t; [4 I
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
9 J" c7 |' Q0 R/ X9 Yin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800+ Q- i1 v% W. d' ~4 ]$ p9 t* [2 ^
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
9 {' L3 W/ H! E! @6 v: c- w3 fwithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography" i9 ~: R5 ?" ^0 w o7 t
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum8 } u6 u7 X J& A% x2 j
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was& k' ~. C4 H+ D: E- ?, H' t. N
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
; g1 \% n9 a7 o( f& {convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown) E1 T, x# v& r$ d6 N
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,/ {* N& s; Q. I; e
thanks to the D800.
, r# }3 B8 s' fWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,- I1 k" e4 u1 s
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic' v% R5 E3 q7 `* i% X' j
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
. V4 u" N4 d* H G5 bthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
& A; g: s8 ~4 t& f; yD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as* X9 \; Z& v5 n- |2 o
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
* E# h) x) M' n3 b/ KAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor9 [5 b4 ^: E1 ?! U4 E
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is2 M8 o. b! t- `- S$ ]* f4 C
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
& l; m0 W* `4 ~4 b8 k! c2 yalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New/ ~" l% r9 |9 l; {6 r% s* S
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features* D2 N3 N7 x ?) o
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
& U9 Y/ b/ Y E( y" dprints and video.0 O0 ~* l0 T, [( M% G7 H6 [
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is2 ?* }. O0 L- Z8 L) ~2 y1 |3 }
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models* x k; L/ v; L! |
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
6 c" p* @9 b! |9 R ?( `countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
' [! [, P' d8 s- Q& Y/ _sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
* v- G" A% f4 M9 M% wlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
/ v3 r7 ?. M. I* T* d5 Gacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I n# K+ @( ?( O6 F, k9 }
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as ]; D) u4 [, D* V3 D: }& `
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
3 \& y+ ?5 Z' lphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add V, r* T- d9 y8 a% E
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the% m9 T: T$ S) _' R# ^4 h; h
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express

clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
