Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3

within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color3 G9 ]2 q5 E" [# e, I
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance. E4 i+ b+ x3 L
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
+ ~) T# e; I! kallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
9 V, K0 m( R7 \7 vwithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography

" d3 O- \8 Q$ P' n/ G+ }8 \image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was

* z. ]- ]: _' U- e4 sconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown

When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location, B% P! p" _; U5 w: K
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic2 w( t- ^& v. V- x5 Z" i" t
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces! m9 E* u% B' u
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a$ Q% Q, p: M9 a: V1 a; @
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as9 M) O; {6 l8 v3 }+ A
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.: }+ v, u, b0 E; j7 \: o
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor, n4 _+ r! y7 R: {
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
0 r5 H9 S( s/ K' X$ {" Deasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
`1 O, L) ?7 |- f6 X3 S8 j# Oalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
$ R' |8 D3 Q, k* C+ L: u* n/ v. \cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features

To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is2 e0 \ u9 ~. M4 L6 W
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models% b4 W. s0 \0 O
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using$ t% G8 x( h7 B" A
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
% [6 F* m: R: [$ Qsight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
% V0 _: @+ w, y. U, k% D. I) r; Dlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of: Z% b! x4 z; p
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I1 j% B9 L+ n/ k7 ]9 T
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as/ R' w: O, Y3 l% i" E
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
' `; G2 d9 u& C2 v \- ophotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
. L n6 _9 }' H/ ? ktremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the6 w, w% l! w5 V6 X3 S- a
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express& G1 P3 D& E+ C
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
d* j9 z- F9 ~. Q7 q( a9 d0 g, LAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
6 g3 N: X a4 g( ] acompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal- t6 E7 W7 ~ {. Z0 }
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for2 `# Z$ E7 N1 b8 ~2 a
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital

# ^4 a" w Y0 warchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
& @' m+ ?. C! Y+ O* X# mperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly) Z6 A2 ~& Q( s4 ~- ]+ w* K0 E
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
( A0 {/ C& @9 W, p( K6 D: H3 Jto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional' Q8 E/ Y# u+ J9 @+ i2 R
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
