Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution7 ^. q0 E# h- {* m7 e: }
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color) f; I% @5 j- B" Q" T
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
8 u0 g* C$ x2 c _0 Sin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
( Q; W1 F# T, n, Q! B- x/ pallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject* B0 J7 ~) R/ ?7 i, v2 C5 u
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
* N4 b: l$ d0 \7 a! zwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
! V8 T2 q* a$ B" X* ^; Yimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was5 d9 K, v. G$ C) o; O
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and2 y1 H% m$ E; l. v4 k- C1 k
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown9 ]+ p8 F- V2 ^9 N
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised, R' K) w! @* ^7 K/ j; w
thanks to the D800.
' g( L9 g* p$ |! s0 ^When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,& n5 g& Q1 D ]3 G6 l
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic

' {) M+ n9 y& a6 Lhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
& h R; b* |! }8 b) Ieasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
$ \0 c' Z* U/ Ealso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New; `4 j2 {( X! A& v7 ^4 R. T
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features. i2 K" D- Y _. p) [8 z, S/ P8 a
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
/ Y" v" q6 F7 |1 L6 ^6 w9 L1 ]prints and video.
* S: e- l3 p( g- ITo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
7 `4 k6 W+ i9 Y2 d3 j' i1 Fnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models: i" [; q( K) x' ? ?7 i9 O- P
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
- e! W& G7 M4 a6 U2 E& f: ocountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first1 t s+ i( N0 z" ?
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
. p; X5 b3 m$ {. x# Dlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of8 J. q% o( i; U' v
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
9 Z4 v# D" l! Q* o6 h$ Xam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
4 l7 W j g1 O. P% l& u) D1 \) Dthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
/ K& N6 i, ~4 k0 x8 G t/ Iphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add( p/ C: ?4 e; ]/ D% B
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the1 i! w+ u( J+ M; a
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
$ j! B( K$ T$ x' s7 qis that now I will think differently about the images I make.
+ U6 R; F' z' P2 B4 nAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
# A. K/ W; O+ ]7 Icompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal* K3 i# n7 @. x7 U& ]
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for+ S, A2 S: D/ b p
