Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression# o! |' R1 q* ^+ {+ t
of the new Nikon D800. Established medium-format image quality is
1 ?6 M b3 @3 o2 p" anow inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.30 n; I$ b5 I5 K9 l7 W
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution1 k9 Z, I" g7 _8 p
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
0 C, N$ N$ ]* Xmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance' S$ N7 T7 O; g1 A6 \) I
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
$ t( s- i" H4 }& b: w* t: zallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject7 W0 V9 |8 ]9 M! e; c
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography1 ]5 c K5 }& B! [; Y& w# `
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum$ R3 Q3 ?4 P( _! |/ d
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
" O4 \# e3 M; x/ Y/ K5 Awidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and H# n( P# ~: _) O$ n
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown( B4 Y6 P) F5 o" X) k, t
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,7 P( y0 |; S% m8 B/ I- P) V
thanks to the D800.
6 I4 x. u3 P9 v0 i1 t% yWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,- s8 L; c/ J9 D- J, q. W
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
$ w8 [8 L- d8 N0 ~8 Urange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces! G8 t% N; @" ?
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a+ V) C- h4 l# E- L R( i) c
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as

Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor' O. \7 k* Y8 y: v5 Y3 ~
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
2 b( u% g7 Q/ F$ e/ `, feasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
0 O5 w8 n7 x! K6 w% g6 valso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New- v B8 d* q; k2 c
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
& z- L5 e0 i. K* a) {in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality l( z' X! c, @1 _9 D9 m0 v
prints and video.! s0 _$ a4 ?% q- L) [
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
0 v; H: N& c* u2 y2 v! N. J4 `not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models1 L+ w$ Q! O% U9 `9 x6 B, W" r0 D
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
! ^7 ~- a! I+ f5 R, |9 |countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first2 J# g9 D9 o/ b3 u p8 I, }$ Z
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws$ F2 m8 D( A* m
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of: [2 C) \. @- U1 c* Y3 b% x
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I x. R& W3 h K2 R* i7 ^# O2 c
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
5 k( K8 ?' Z i3 {% Z5 X/ Pthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
- H: `% _4 D4 aphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add8 _" C: j3 K* |9 k" K* B
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
4 \( I" g* S" ~! ?$ |/ v' M) @& MD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express

As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,# Z# ]. T* }0 z, U' |
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal9 g! O. }( k1 A: j$ w
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for

# o- Z! P+ [: A# |4 W+ c3 B% Uarchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they

) @: b( | r2 L5 Y2 c' Gclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility

range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
