Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
& [+ r( T5 W& u& dmegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
: g( R- z( ~. o* t& p! z- v+ d; ]within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
+ Z: ?3 U) C% l6 Jmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
* W- B i7 _3 m R/ S1 K' U7 sin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800' g) m2 ^4 f1 X( E$ f6 Z6 m- G& X3 V
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject$ n; \0 \( Z* H( p4 \, s1 Y% q
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
5 u" d* T/ `6 _was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum: u+ r0 U, Z$ k O
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was7 m q( r, f { w7 x/ v7 I
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
; y& H' l9 E: Hconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown: u% _* Y, f$ L5 O
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,% M+ k0 W {6 H
thanks to the D800.
7 b7 y7 h* [; z6 @% \- A, l( vWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
5 L* i7 E0 A$ o8 B3 Z36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
8 m7 `0 F3 S7 [% R% ]' grange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces8 U7 X: p8 \, F% n( g1 _
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a! o8 _- e6 ^, i2 X; x+ H' X
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
8 D# A _: W; p$ ?well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.5 a* a: y* m# ^2 d
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor# L2 O% }, v% r( X! v8 R. a8 m
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
# K+ T3 F1 ^/ Seasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while+ e) d+ e# r) f+ q
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
9 h' X( ]& q/ j! B V, @! |; Ccameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
4 H- S; Y- Z w/ o! din such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality9 u4 o, y+ i5 l/ Q5 T3 l
prints and video.
7 Z r3 ~3 U, XTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is- x: S% j- v5 S, ~
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
+ E% R2 h g* w- z8 care important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using4 _9 G" T, A9 u
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first1 w" x1 h6 D- x9 C- q# X+ R* r! ~
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
1 B9 v: h0 b. O4 B. W0 F& Glike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
, Z s9 e* x/ w. v7 I+ ?8 f6 \9 m8 S: zacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
* w: L! U$ a+ n |2 [+ h- R f vam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
* w4 O# f" M s# P6 ?' {1 i* ithough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse" C( T$ e( e' `2 f9 F
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add+ N2 h/ i3 G0 x, `7 P
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
" A5 z0 c: p! JD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express" z7 v4 c& B) d
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.* o5 b) ^1 R1 O) f; L2 i" F
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
- z7 M7 }2 d Y" gcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal

quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for* R. D3 t/ Y! [) }% S' @
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
% Q: e! p: \, w' V. @* m$ Q) S& h. n! zperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly
% k) r% C( H* M. i2 U/ U) Pclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility: J& B3 u( B2 S' Q5 |
