Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
) l+ Z9 D+ \/ p+ C2 z0 I nmegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution% }! T& z. d6 F- K( U
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color9 w# D/ j5 J& K# b7 u8 R
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance3 k6 e5 o: q3 T r
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D8004 c/ ]# h6 k" ~5 L
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
9 i* j" |, q2 ^% P% ?( X. e' Gwithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography5 h1 T1 {% e; T8 J, u
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum+ B; d& n9 L* ^% P3 g$ }
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was, X- | `; Z5 W1 p8 r* F
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and- ]$ O& _: I- y& f
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
& _- T' K2 O6 P$ [8 g) o8 Y9 hbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,4 N2 y- _$ f& z( N4 t
thanks to the D800.7 c. x5 g5 j5 t9 G" M1 Y% b
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,& ~! }! p( e) j* J
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
: v. X5 d \0 @" nrange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
* B, s7 Z3 b# H6 E% \( Rthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a8 D( T% @. F7 H \! S
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
% `+ [) ~5 X7 A) G, ^% N0 lwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
* [' [3 e& l7 {% o9 b' w. OAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
( e; o# [) D1 Hhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
! Z$ n! Y3 P. M* Z* W' T% aeasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while/ z" Q4 b0 v7 g- S6 j
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New' t; r- \7 _0 ]$ K6 W
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features$ Q2 |0 Y4 }( R. f# q3 B" [8 J1 W/ ^/ q
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality

To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is+ {+ ]5 R! ~. {5 t7 g/ F8 B G2 o
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
\. p; }9 x4 P+ k3 ?* k Z: Mare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
+ J# n0 B: Z! F6 G4 ?countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first3 }% j! u3 d0 j' L
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
- {. h' S/ n0 W& v3 K- `! Llike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of# ]6 u, W) W* [
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
+ P" Z" S. N6 ?9 Y; Jam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
" l3 B5 @6 t; j0 u' y6 J6 othough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
) ^/ a! r8 K9 d6 \; Z* k, sphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
9 L$ Y) I; @) c) gtremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
t" s% e5 V! c* y7 ~# T, V$ KD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express% K; y! @5 w; o
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.. I t3 e5 n) | v, N% I
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,

0 f/ z# S% d) V. n; r; ]0 R8 w* Kquality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for# c" q0 Z( l) `+ G1 a! C
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
/ M8 }7 j, d7 g- F9 vperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly
% c* X9 G6 E+ g4 ^) b1 H2 J; X' J: rclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility/ m7 Y1 z. d5 z9 Z3 p, v. I
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional6 ]& }: K# j8 a7 \- ?3 @2 g
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality1 \+ H! }# g; C ~9 e0 n* ~
