Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

: v) c) _/ }! R/ f8 Nnow inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
. f4 M2 O4 |, k. c! B0 Emegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
7 r T4 m) ^' b! h7 U9 I& Vwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color) K- _ x3 g3 p* |$ `4 f, Y
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance! x) y" `4 l9 m- h
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
0 `4 X: ^0 n* {/ `: }allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject% }2 X* \) h7 T9 R
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography2 }( v, _7 H$ t" v, G
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
; i% z4 Z# P; ^$ B9 h) s/ R* y% Ximage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
6 d6 w ?: w/ M$ r, Gwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
& A2 n, O: U& }7 `8 ?4 t. r6 D$ hconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
. B7 r2 T! x1 `* w' e8 Obefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,

' }: e8 U# w0 ^$ hWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,% _+ ]: M& V- Y0 t) {
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic9 ^. |5 E+ g: ]' g8 {$ K+ M
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
! K$ I7 S7 O: ]# p! vthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a+ D/ ]0 {3 Y+ A+ W6 m j
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as4 m8 u2 x. I$ V- v
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before. y: Y; v/ w" j7 O& j# t/ q/ x( G2 @
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor3 `4 l; R. ]* W, K
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
( E* s, g- C) A$ B* p7 Eeasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while* _/ w3 F) M! O) x# h0 g5 I" ]% `
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
8 N* v1 w$ i, kcameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features" o: G+ {6 n6 k) A
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
6 G) C# U$ f; I: q3 z3 H$ Kprints and video.
. K. l; Q, s2 Y# N1 L0 CTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is6 g2 E, ^- c- d( g1 i6 l
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models s- g$ j% V0 C5 U* Y. D4 Q7 \5 m" [
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using/ a D8 p5 i: `* a
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first+ k7 i _- s" `8 _5 a( J, U# J
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws$ K: L& V1 }' Z* V' {1 \
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
& K7 o. b1 T. ]7 t5 ~! Lacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
. ` Y% @- P7 a! fam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
0 }2 M! Y4 ^6 q {though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
3 H- F& h( T) A1 L+ M; Fphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
, U$ U( T( ^6 z+ Z4 vtremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the [" {" {/ `3 i* k
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
$ P8 j# S+ Z" v5 Ris that now I will think differently about the images I make.* A1 ` g7 w6 F" c L5 `
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
# e# q+ t0 y `* zcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal# d1 m8 `, C) E2 f( A$ y
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for( y8 ~( X, c2 ~3 ]; |( h
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital: |( Q$ M6 G0 }0 e
camera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till
5 e; P; \- v# @- g' ^now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions' _. S5 `6 \- D
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior* q2 x( c! }0 E% L& q9 @
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for% G; P4 S4 z1 P& O
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
1 Y! C. B" c' L& Q# ?) Xperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly) |3 U* k7 W9 o. N/ \
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
% R; u. H" V5 yto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional' H8 w0 u6 k3 X+ x/ H
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
