Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

, E- a/ L7 f, S2 {# b4 o, Jmegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution9 Z S7 w7 ]9 r
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
2 w+ i3 {4 ?. T; M2 E& ]+ W6 R5 Lmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance* n; m/ D; O, g
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800$ Q/ G6 b* @7 N& h
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
, U- Y( Q) K. C$ Nwithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography( ?6 Y4 c+ U$ }9 O" x
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum% i3 f: G( x+ D5 V3 ~9 e: l$ c
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was

convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown3 k3 s" J) F1 { L6 ~
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,6 `. P/ h+ j2 F; \
thanks to the D800.3 A% G- @7 J) f9 \$ _& A# \% k
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,8 j s& R8 B3 J- J' e8 F; z5 B
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic4 X5 K0 u/ o, A$ H) H+ M
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
8 l# B e* Z1 @ [! Y, jthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a. y% K3 H% @% b" U7 H
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as" \+ c$ l% z; g# L; ~
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
$ p+ ?/ p E3 x4 V: BAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor& @" L B! {7 F- q1 v/ e
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is8 C5 f. L5 {4 [3 U! m+ H5 c
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while" ~. M8 P1 @9 I, T; y1 }6 o& `# L1 g
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New- H7 {8 v, X g! o3 a- D
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
4 v) B: N/ a) p( z& P! Rin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
: c0 f% C. N1 ?1 [3 @8 p- Y7 W# P) zprints and video.! I# T/ ?, ?1 z' ~9 {8 a
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is7 E4 h8 |) m# w* k
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
2 e: K# y2 v; T: t: R& uare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
6 A5 Z( F* B K8 H6 T6 p0 O) ccountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first' S' e- k* E6 g! c$ K
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
4 l6 f5 y+ k/ u# ^! a1 l) f5 y5 v* m1 plike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of

photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
9 a! {0 }# t9 ^8 N: ntremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the

is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
