Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3/ t3 p7 X7 t* c8 _
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
2 w( o5 H) _( X! H) h7 \/ f9 P8 ]within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color1 D9 T% y3 I* p- ^- M: P: ]2 n
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
7 b' `& o% {4 vin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800 }5 ]% l+ E$ y* s R; H/ x. [
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject2 c- t4 f9 `7 j( y9 G1 f
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography7 n/ _6 w' v- t: I0 v+ q
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum" W& z8 j: H' W3 [
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was# T$ b ] k; D( L6 |
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and+ V9 K3 P6 p$ ^5 _. {1 l
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
' x2 z, {& c# G" H+ wbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,, l* G; s" k# Y; v+ G/ ^9 u
thanks to the D800.% k& L1 g2 I. P1 f: ?( p
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
1 j/ J# u/ u" E" m36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
0 Q4 h, m% l3 r8 f/ A8 w9 [# qrange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
: W0 b5 F& ?( o% b4 c( w) rthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a, ]9 I! Z; j* q0 ?) p
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as" U& t* W: l5 P" X2 c0 ]5 @
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.5 ~# _' d- X% Q
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor4 M) h; d; L' C
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is3 a& Z; m( M) u6 h7 }
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
s/ o) q6 o( d' j1 V' calso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New; R5 U5 T; _6 ?
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
7 t6 T& P! U' X/ W* pin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
; [- u: \" I! z3 lprints and video.# X) d% D4 R+ ?2 y# X* S! }$ c
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
; ]+ u j; h/ f3 ^* j9 D; Mnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models. p2 M6 U' y: `4 C- A
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
" z! {3 x; z: u i' k( f* Mcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
( B2 H' |& z1 J- i. ^% Vsight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws' Y8 X* c4 g9 l8 c0 I* k
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of8 r7 B3 M6 @1 w7 n
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I- @5 Z O" C. V! b* p4 X
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
Z8 B) U- Z+ b5 ^& c) A! c. P& Zthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
! J- i( F, k4 v9 Bphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add& _5 ^# X2 c" f! A
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
8 }) u1 U4 i6 v) j; l' jD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
) K9 } N6 ^: yis that now I will think differently about the images I make.5 @; M7 w) s$ \& W( ^! W
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
4 k# ^( x% i& {8 Jcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal R) G% |* r. p/ @$ r# E- v2 E
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for: @# c& ]7 V( f
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital, G7 |% ?$ |9 b! x0 O

architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they

* d7 l$ g4 t/ E% p# zclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility1 F( f0 v. @; \; j1 {" N2 H
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional3 i( \ {! q0 e: _+ n
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality9 \, O# B5 _8 g* K# v T9 G
to a new level. What a new companion!
