Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution3 }' H# M9 r; O& u: T" b
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color) o% h f& `) b9 Q) e1 M3 d6 l& @
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance9 v( @) H% s; t
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D8008 A3 ]' T6 ?2 Q' X( s
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject; _7 O# ]4 [2 Y- I$ S+ J
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
$ K4 x: O$ M4 ]! Hwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
1 v1 p; P7 q& R5 L$ k7 m8 F( Wimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was' i, f5 u- l# ~
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
, M2 u# f+ ^4 n* }8 }convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown

) }: d- B& z8 TWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,/ U* d+ |$ U; l4 l5 z

range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces/ v* x. y0 {" e$ J" C
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a

Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
/ _( D& W& y3 v+ M$ T. `3 I2 Bhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is2 c0 g: k& d( @8 j" ^
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
; L! }" J. h0 R$ S& W+ Aalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
9 W6 C/ ?' _' K! ]0 scameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
8 l' K0 H" }2 F1 x/ Pin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
7 J6 A7 A* O; ]) p; iprints and video.
/ d* g" T E! w/ r+ h0 aTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
8 ]# }) D* n U1 F0 X1 Bnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models5 r% {, u! b& C# H1 J) x
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
2 O# Z( b; `. @& {countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first* b4 _) ~, @# }
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
1 N2 A1 Z9 e% a, T- e) P. Wlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
$ ^/ y" Z5 g+ q0 eacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
8 d& \ Q- X+ o; Ram enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
* i: H, E$ y6 Dthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse0 ^& u6 O& L) U1 [) ]2 O
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
2 f! `% H$ h5 g/ T- F) t1 Ttremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the' X, `7 @8 g" L
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
