Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3

' m; d# A; W N: S& {( I: r" Wwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
* T; q( \7 h; V& `8 e4 H, m: j" bmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance$ p6 z+ F0 ~( d5 f' m! B
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
) p% V" h1 x/ \allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
v& l0 \8 F& X& B8 ewithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
& z" ~! x2 g" D1 y( A5 Z3 d kwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
; [0 y$ ]5 o; ], E6 Aimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was5 o1 u! x$ Z8 l5 Q" \
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and3 g; Y) V4 s7 N6 q* Y# r8 o
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
: R; c9 Q, y4 M% Obefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
" T' m8 O; S! D+ i3 xthanks to the D800.
9 C I8 ^2 l) o" o% ^# WWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
" e8 n2 {; A5 S O2 V5 p: Y* ]# I36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic: F6 u$ F% d6 U( J2 w2 _+ ~- Z
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces5 |7 E" [9 x; ^3 t
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
* d$ D: ]1 a5 i' q4 ]+ ZD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as# Q' n. x o t' C m, }& d, Q+ a: [
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.9 _1 v% h* N) P1 R E+ { W2 R
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor1 _4 l5 q6 W, A1 H
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
! `0 g4 ^ Q1 f+ m8 y3 Qeasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while! Q* @& l2 ]9 l; l8 \
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New, b/ W# n& A, f& j8 F( k% L
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
/ M$ d* |) x& }7 Min such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality

To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
" L( t! O8 N) J6 E6 Xnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
1 K4 M5 V; `+ V" u, `are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
- l0 h8 g' M2 f; x jcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
* x' m; G9 J8 S9 v, F# O/ c3 _sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
. J% O' L0 C/ [like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
' |) r1 A& X% d; J wacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I2 n( ~0 z g) b' r
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
0 M; S, I4 u0 S9 F* H6 ythough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
0 Y4 K) v: u- @: y3 Fphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add- D1 @ o: j7 a# e6 O0 v. n+ L
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the+ v6 C2 H k/ E6 t: W& m/ e: w
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express4 d) K/ n3 ] @# P$ H0 T
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.

clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility

range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
