Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
7 a. M# ]/ q: X$ U vwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color) B. q5 i6 D) c
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
+ f( u/ z1 ~) I- _9 nin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D8003 ^6 `6 T, E. z: w0 Y/ n
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject' n. O- J6 N1 x7 X7 H$ n
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
# h8 f* F$ N& Xwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
' P! j; X! n" Z! t: V# timage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was W# T, J3 c- U' S" j; J
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and& g7 `8 l8 I9 S! u+ f5 i
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
8 N8 [6 }5 z6 f4 Nbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,: }5 z7 y+ x3 B Y6 p. R
thanks to the D800.' ]3 p* `9 Z+ X+ j
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,) [$ ?+ O- x: `- R
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
" a# e# Q4 Q2 l# P8 prange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
: m0 k7 ^2 G* J- e8 Z: }the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a0 ?8 i2 [0 Z% h% A( u; ^
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as* ^) u. x0 u! D7 D4 i- q3 e
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
/ }, l: |8 b3 v/ F" _( I: UAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor, |% I. ]$ R5 J( W
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is' }' m. }. w6 t _
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
: [, P( r% v6 [, s; _5 b5 g! Jalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New3 g. m7 h# Q; v* Q, L
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
% w8 ~2 r9 S" k2 Y. y+ S' tin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
`& B* X2 r( U7 y2 Zprints and video.
* V$ G9 i0 l/ I$ \$ f8 k2 ~6 C* `6 vTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
4 d* x* ]2 B3 Onot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
* s3 [) z x/ Y% mare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
: B g. u9 Y. T9 [$ K+ hcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
i: W7 a8 X9 U2 E$ esight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
3 d; D; r3 a- D( qlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
0 f1 u9 V" d3 \. Q* Yacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I9 C8 m1 Z$ f8 Y, ~5 p9 [( D+ Z
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
' p) k/ \) Q' tthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
# e$ v Q9 n% H6 a% s* _; x( S% N+ Rphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add, P+ w# v3 |* T8 R5 Z" }
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the" h9 ^; u3 _9 }/ J) ^$ C
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
+ z: a$ f+ B; m7 dis that now I will think differently about the images I make.
2 s. ]6 P' Y, [6 a+ E( S6 KAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
* L( k O4 T; X! ^2 vcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal, @" P U7 p/ D# ?, D" |
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for, M/ W; @- @6 B5 t
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital# p' P$ z+ _9 ?6 N+ k& M
camera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till
$ Z1 S% L4 T% P7 {now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions9 Z" p$ g, y7 w/ E
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior0 U7 F9 k' B8 s+ \
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for u3 g9 K# V L) \' d
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they; a: ?+ I6 n, r+ S* M8 l
perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly
" s; M; y7 v& U- cclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
" `2 u5 u7 f( \% d/ Lto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional. M+ |$ h2 g8 d' y
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality7 n z& w5 _: v* v$ E
to a new level. What a new companion!
