9 X! K! C. ~2 n' j- Connect piping systems to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment / b5 K. W% `) @
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints and specifications furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to determine layout requirements
' h' _ A( c8 a) I- U7 p- Cut openings for pipe in walls, floors and ceilings using hand or power tools or machines7 Q. k; u8 h, ^
- Select type and size of pipe required/ w+ v+ i$ b M- U; o4 P, Q6 |
- Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe to required shape using hand and power tools7 o" d' z- \- _3 a+ E+ B+ j
- Weld, braze, cement, solder and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping system

; @; L2 X; T. J) H$ m- Test system for leaks using testing equipment
" b( T# P1 c, v1 ~- Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings and flush system

) O- G) N- v/ [2 S- Completion of secondary school" @ ]3 P& O! f
- Completion of formal Apprenticeship Program of four- to five-years or a combination of over five years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in pipefitting system installation
a. g, _/ {" q) x- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals7 U5 H6 @( `( @7 v
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence" Z9 I" V7 g% @& I% s( x
- Pipefitter trade certification is considered an asset
