2 }/ U: U7 U- c4 x* ^$ m3 e) L
6 b3 |. |: |1 P8 f- z
1. I couldn't care less.
: N4 X. `% @+ \9 |; K: [# m! B0 n& Z% P/ Q
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. }; O5 Y+ z X$ d+ d7 Q
- f2 o- t2 t! \0 | P
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
* D `" ~) ?' |' O7 Y0 L r( R8 O+ p4 d1 b" j
0 K: { b5 ]7 B9 u V' f3 k; s
/ P* m6 h/ ~9 F) J/ Z How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
% l& {8 D% @; ^- U& r; O: \ R
6 ` p0 Q9 e/ L$ O; {) k I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) 7 B- d) m- P) z5 k3 a
/ Q) e) H9 F+ C/ L* y; g/ W* B
但是有时说话者也有口是心非: 例如: - o! {- z/ j6 ]8 k, {
# S/ }6 t- o1 _! S* u7 G8 P I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) 3 H1 G% F& o0 r5 q, R3 p2 ~" a
Yes, you do(care). 1 p- c5 T. R0 a& b& H3 o
' }3 q5 S. y0 w a 至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
+ N) m" V0 a# I2 Q2 P/ e" i
: h* i W6 x& o9 c7 c I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
$ @$ l( `5 b6 k7 F
; @' C: k9 E/ H) g I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
9 y* X t% x% \+ f6 n- s1 ]$ A; ?. `( |7 o! I) G) g/ R# E
I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. - N0 `* h5 ]# h
1 y' ~6 \% h* M& A3 X. |5 Z7 @9 D6 J2 Z, z( Z
I couldn't be more wrong.
, F# `# x, \3 H. U
; S; D- |' Q% i. A, v- `8 }3 B( u9 d, y+ K! a0 Y/ b
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少)
+ z& o( _: ~' F
7 u# W+ I+ q, ^. G& l/ M. r I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) : _" a7 f0 M* J4 z; B
3 i3 V( |+ u: q9 S
2. No bones about it. 4 F# w( I5 v! Z3 x
+ l. y& q9 v( o$ [4 u; i& U# [ 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
0 ]3 {( I* i9 e% B+ D
. z# t0 T, C7 g" M9 x His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
+ ]$ G7 ]7 W" O* S3 h$ F! u2 m6 R/ z2 e

" f2 l' O& c2 h6 E- b5 D m2 s; @4 z$ q( A' W- Q
3. take it on me!
! T. N" @6 L# A& @ [" S. i7 o6 H2 @. u" o7 V3 Y5 E2 } j' N
意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: 0 [3 k$ Q2 c4 K
1 J4 V2 o; {; L: v Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
/ x" N$ x6 G; h6 w% p, G1 u2 D% ]3 f, O0 ^! P9 e& T0 z" C

- N7 ~8 G: X" k. l5 ^
Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
* L5 ~8 O* Q+ X- i
* _7 ?) w! k n( }5 T& d: C 可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 ) I7 p7 [6 n: R8 t8 |0 k$ K
8 c4 F7 g6 x7 L/ G3 r; p
Take it on us.)
4 V0 A b+ S+ t$ o X( o& B/ ?5 ~4 s' c+ K$ {3 k
4. I am from Missouri. U6 J- o4 ]& O7 }; H) x8 c2 N( t
( b& ~6 I+ y. j: K; o
这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 # I( a% p1 E( f" u0 C
- B3 p2 ? G4 {+ L- N" n
2 v+ i+ v7 Z$ W" i He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. (他是来自密苏里州,所以不容易说服他。) ' ]1 m' n2 l. k0 N" B' d# n' j3 b
2 ^- S& V$ q8 ]! T& n; l0 Z0 o
Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) , m# |1 x) f# m9 f7 g2 s' J

We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
