* K7 l6 P- M, F# D8 N0 `
# G! H7 d* N, H: P% o
        1. I couldn't care less.
. h: E$ `& A: Q
4 H" _' }4 U0 w, j+ j- E# c6 g5 d. E 这句话的意思是“我不在乎”,“缺乏兴趣”(lack of interest),也就是:I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
( ?8 Q# O. e" u' a) R; {; S9 f: H& b6 s$ Z
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
4 a4 o  X, _' Q! l3 s, T/ |  e3 S7 e+ S
  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) % X! v7 C; @- T5 U: r7 ~+ Z/ T+ A
' l5 ]" b0 _) X/ N% A" V$ x
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) 6 ~4 x4 L& ~7 L3 O

" J3 A3 D  e" R7 f- Q I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
9 _0 ^, S/ Y; V' r0 p; |0 r

( u5 `( n. r8 _$ f; c5 F3 G- N7 k I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) ' [. a6 @, I1 h. V9 S& Y

Yes, you do(care). ) s- F  i+ h$ D5 k* e
! s; f4 u; Q/ y
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
$ w7 z) ^4 N' Y3 ~/ {
# X$ h8 |  M1 n) f$ ?4 | I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) ) B9 E' H  g- p3 `1 q# |

, l% ^- K3 x( ^4 p- V/ S( o( t+ o" o I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
8 B3 M/ w1 O7 n( Y, {5 S2 }+ a0 A! q+ i7 q* W6 n( H
I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
2 c/ F1 l, U' A! }5 l# ~1 j& p6 T

. `* `* y8 I  E+ }7 f3 ~ I couldn't be more wrong.
! a, p3 w6 D9 }+ r3 P, K( f4 a: M/ [  c& K- a5 E- {* _
1 L% d+ M' ~# b
- r- r( C6 Q1 q) U# U  @7 a  m" y 不过,严格来说,I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) ( R* x1 }- P, u' y* @) p

- S% W+ P4 r3 r" d( q I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)
8 H3 d2 m: i% @5 p" o+ I. Y
! B& ?9 @( F$ Q  P4 Y% Z# W# T 2. No bones about it. + b7 w6 v& }/ ~  g0 ~. P# h6 G

: G' j% P  P% t* z/ G 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
  T- W/ t) @( [+ N3 N0 K
( l5 \* j- c2 r  G1 B8 ^ His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
# g2 U" f) H5 b, X- U7 P
$ \9 x# K6 U' d0 I; X0 C  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
8 k+ Q% _; m! l3 v- \5 A7 E. }! O! L9 K5 q9 {  r$ O" ?
When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
. x( V, r8 r1 {. p/ F- L0 B+ r" d9 c1 v0 A+ [
  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) / F3 {7 }7 G6 D8 `; S' j* J: s
3 L- d. r. E' m$ i3 ^2 |/ P% `' d
  3. take it on me! : ?8 h: i3 j. N
1 u" J! u+ l8 T; x* P1 F( V% D0 B
  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: 7 E* N# a* I9 L0 M  ?/ U' h! E5 C

6 b' X1 o& K& G Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
0 e( Z) T# s% `" y& `, ~5 q, S) h3 u- w. g3 b9 Q4 [
The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
" F  e# a# e0 J( x
4 V* ]$ y+ f& a5 p  I8 m# {# k Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)

4 t3 y2 E. S8 T) X

3 c% \5 f1 _9 ]0 f+ b) z2 v (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
# g& H# |, `1 W* P7 r- _/ W+ d/ c3 S( q$ E; W' q
  4. I am from Missouri. . I$ f' c' i# a+ @; C) S

+ S# f5 R8 j1 f9 y 这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
+ G- l! y4 o8 @6 ]
3 T, F0 B3 d" z
+ L5 a  V$ y" E, p; ^3 u0 e He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. (他是来自密苏里州,所以不容易说服他。) & o4 R6 n0 v1 g# {) v5 {0 I  M* s" ]% j
) e( _0 r2 v7 g" S
Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.)
! A  {0 W$ h. J( e) Z6 k$ e
* ~0 _  c% g2 E% T. d, i- q, K  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
0 z5 c1 t0 n! U* L" R# _9 N6 z5 r# e) F0 {9 H
As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
