Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall0 S0 b5 o" M1 S K, G
not do any of the following:
4 F, U* g5 n$ y(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor9 o4 t( Z4 o& W* G' a2 D
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;, K- L5 S4 {- I. g
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
8 N/ ]1 j! @) u" M6 lvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
6 t S! c% k8 i5 O+ k& h5 }(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
- N9 t9 j1 U0 \( L1 R+ q2 }/ s$ Upermit another person5 y# F3 T5 ?' D7 c/ a0 g) E
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or; m! w) ^3 b/ J( u0 d5 y
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,$ {4 d4 Z' s# H p; j6 T4 J. G
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
* z$ T6 U8 Q: J$ y. Y& a, @(d) give or lend a financial
% q( H2 t4 p r# kresponsibility card or a copy of it* ^/ N$ n6 B& n! {
to a person not entitled to have that financial
$ j) h J% K) P% h! q) Y) T2 J7 A M" oresponsibility card or copy.$ y( S- }( c; Q$ L! l4 m N% A

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
, N+ v6 R+ }5 _1 Nwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
; U0 h3 u- ?7 B( v/ Ethe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection$ e* A+ \! y& |7 P' N7 N
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is, Q$ C# ]7 h5 ?+ Y- @
not an insured motor vehicle.2 q3 O; [; t' h9 W: q u

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this% m) u: r8 z& C1 W4 g* Q% O2 K

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a# E6 [7 L& l7 ?* }6 m# M
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the. b$ ]" k/ G8 N: a" X& L
Insurance Act$ O+ @: _5 A7 c2 {; k9 L% Z4 g
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
1 A" Q. k3 y! n: a% W3 ^outside Alberta.( z, ~3 Z1 X7 J; r6 `- J- v3 D4 H

+ Y/ h2 J! b! @& X) V9 v: TA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
# D* f C" F7 ^- N6 [, t) h(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,! Q' w* z5 h% m6 Y, q+ J/ }
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500# u2 r' W2 A9 d' o
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
" \$ h* Q8 V4 d, bimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
7 c) ]0 D m3 a- _3 y3 l- gmore than 6 months
) n! `! D- g8 Y! f4 P% D, ^9 x
: V/ {- o+ U; ^1 R/ E1 R. YMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
