Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall9 q* y5 A! `# u& y/ f
not do any of the following:( G$ S. u. o3 i' |7 m" G' O( z
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
! w7 q2 A8 E/ |& ?vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
8 G* V+ |! J6 m(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
" F# n7 G- }2 wvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
4 x3 @9 k2 t- { q$ Y* p' J! [(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
2 O: ~: p1 @! F% G" Fpermit another person
7 b3 [" |7 |$ l2 N" g, b) [(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
1 ~7 |1 x4 K F# u(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
+ T+ Z' J0 Q& n3 e. v+ Xunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
6 I( j9 ~( V* n1 \7 C(d) give or lend a financial
4 d. Y* ]2 i: H7 w. l. U: T9 b& mresponsibility card or a copy of it7 C4 w) ~# w* g7 c. i
to a person not entitled to have that financial
9 Y6 S6 ]; x) s" oresponsibility card or copy.

7 e: n# x1 l& ^5 F3 k$ f8 hIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway0 C/ H3 `. W/ ~0 G) L8 Z% t( D
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
* T- f& Q# y$ K7 O! x1 d4 j, y# ?the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection- f+ c/ }5 S# `: T) y$ g6 A2 H0 i9 i
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is( S2 T9 @& E% B6 g d) Y
not an insured motor vehicle./ M% \5 h, ~- D$ u5 F

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this7 d) p: b1 S2 n$ y' H
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the$ t5 V# V1 T- W7 e$ f1 I% G( r
Insurance Act
+ p* W, N; q8 L; Wby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
9 H; G, c. ]4 J6 H$ s/ boutside Alberta.
! m! d4 j4 A: X0 k& H }! T8 `(4)
2 [* g) H9 T& M' f& q3 p" f E- QA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
) e# }' k% _- N(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,* a9 U) a% y8 W8 q5 m. t$ ~
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500+ u! r G8 P) j \6 L+ Q M
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to2 L! c8 `3 F3 b4 `5 r# w; {8 \
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not0 v# p& z3 h3 y3 o0 U l9 l+ b
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
