Insurance required

(1)
+ E2 h2 i) s" N3 ~9 H9 s' EExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
! t* b2 b/ H) U1 Vnot do any of the following:+ R5 w8 S( k7 G
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor7 m$ e9 w- M( P" j
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
- a7 R( v1 _) L8 N- o* X& g(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
9 A0 X3 H+ U/ K0 I4 V+ b& I8 T: kvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 a# n; V+ g4 H1 f+ u9 Q
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,$ n5 S6 [0 o8 x/ k, `
permit another person
! a% o5 X/ Q6 L(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
; s0 C7 Z H: R* g* Q(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
1 {/ k* X+ A4 `+ U" aunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
2 Z$ Y5 N+ H" h! T(d) give or lend a financial
- h) s6 u" C& Q8 U ^: Sresponsibility card or a copy of it
' K( }: V5 N: X' R# Hto a person not entitled to have that financial- N3 Z/ ?& \/ Y5 j5 ^+ X8 I

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway& t" M7 c* D9 y1 k, g
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of" Y3 r" V+ s8 p& s# J
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection) g! G& J5 z* ?/ X
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is6 M3 k! V8 m$ u, z; O) n) @
not an insured motor vehicle.

# S9 j& R' w7 q3 E+ x4 WIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this( D8 m9 w) x3 k/ [ R
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this) m/ j/ Q2 h* {( ?

9 `0 q; d9 v- b1 Z9 fSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
7 u( \3 \ Q1 d+ X f1 Sfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the

by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy! r" z# x8 e: u& c

A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection: J/ z; \6 y* C' F8 E5 x! r
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
5 l, ^" _* o5 @(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
% x) X) _5 h5 l F2 x' m: `and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
! F3 d: d& f+ B1 rimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
2 ~' p: o+ I& `1 u, H( x( p- J Imore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
