(1)
7 M( |7 z! k# MExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall" V1 s4 \5 w) q) K" `$ e
not do any of the following:* J; T3 P v" }. Q7 ^- t" D& _
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
* c* G) O2 K" R, V, P Evehicle is an insured motor vehicle;/ g; m) ~6 k4 t9 U0 M' ~) s/ B' U
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor* ]2 j8 O: B( G- P0 y
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
2 G! o7 Y5 |, Q' u; b: f7 K(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,3 |; F4 K( N1 @0 G1 E" V" n4 Y
permit another person
9 G- T1 `* M( D& M6 T(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or! i- U, m! P" y2 k9 Q; J6 z
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway, [8 N0 ?. M5 X: u
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle; [8 i9 y; ^) _& g1 J1 k$ Z k
(d) give or lend a financial
, M3 c/ l* W$ H, L0 |& M0 mresponsibility card or a copy of it
5 Q( f" d: A3 T2 zto a person not entitled to have that financial4 p& D3 S/ k, i5 g7 x
responsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway; w" v0 @7 X( A+ b$ g L v
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
% b& C& A% `, a! p* r# Gthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
; r4 @/ w! M/ o3 I6 s6 e(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
! n0 o) { ^3 G; W% onot an insured motor vehicle.

2 m+ r" o3 t3 V9 c: {If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this/ i" f& X# K" n3 S
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this( a1 u% ^ ?, E4 k

. V( z6 |+ q) `' @, v2 f8 k4 f) }6 nSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
6 e8 K3 } T$ n3 j d' }financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
$ F) B! C5 X& \: o8 ]Insurance Act
0 I* C) _5 A" }" V9 Q8 Q5 f; mby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
' X& r# P* b( i0 a5 M6 Noutside Alberta.3 ]$ Q3 b; x3 A
(4)$ C3 W) }# V `0 W6 V* e7 n
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
2 ], H5 \' G( e) h3 \4 h! n9 x9 e. a(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,5 @% X- f4 W3 r* D% g+ K
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
" B; ~6 Q! L! yand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to$ z) z% ^1 Z7 g& @7 t
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
- E' B6 _6 {* G; ?* ^more than 6 months
& C1 e1 z) d+ aMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
