Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall+ \7 R7 X. Z* Y- Z
not do any of the following:& Z9 H& { A+ D2 M2 L/ K6 n' ]
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
4 Z, k4 d* {' K+ _vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
* U) L/ ?5 m- c5 [6 z(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
9 C+ c; P# e' B4 T: M! Wvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
5 r" H7 @5 a5 `6 B(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,+ }% [2 G/ G; T8 |4 Q7 ^: i
permit another person
- I: u+ K0 r7 a0 f4 B(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or0 B7 K: \+ N4 ~; q
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,% d& [6 d# P: @3 r; {. |+ ~/ n
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 I6 y' d' ?3 `: z2 i J
(d) give or lend a financial& f; R: ?5 T! b8 ]5 R+ T
responsibility card or a copy of it- a3 i- G* n. i7 y2 {
to a person not entitled to have that financial
2 _4 C, k( d2 R# t. M# Sresponsibility card or copy.

4 z B! n/ F; ~0 b2 z/ YIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
: E1 V% M! M, e q& a1 e4 p; Cwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
. }/ A' R4 ^8 P4 g7 Uthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection6 f9 i8 d8 j, y. u8 K
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is' D+ r4 o) i i& \0 E. s2 K
not an insured motor vehicle.& V6 ^- Y3 G4 D( c+ G. ]

Insurance Act
( `* n" k8 U! g2 t2 `3 ?; ?by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy; c! L: E$ W1 y8 f: {3 d
outside Alberta.

# V8 d$ _# E( n( u( l5 UA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection9 J# ^. T! N, {4 E4 M y
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
5 F$ `* t3 d( R% N/ h# r(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
# [& }9 c6 C& t0 F% r+ _. G$ Zand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
. W* N4 F! Y) [imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not: r s5 Y9 d2 l9 F0 G @
more than 6 months
- N/ d+ Y4 n5 G0 Q- ~8 M5 y* ]# T8 SMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
