Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall7 g: G+ b! O d( E$ ]
not do any of the following:' c" P6 w) `+ B- N7 H* v
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor% j) V. E2 q& w
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
6 R( `- m. l4 }- j' f(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor! U: L" N2 e0 r
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
+ E' {5 i- ~4 }% X# J4 ^(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,) z; I1 v, A- v5 V) y# U9 z
permit another person
, d8 ]- [" L# C/ U(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
# w) k4 Z1 O5 U. u( U(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
; }5 `. r2 y9 N2 _7 x3 Y4 ^unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;: B2 K) i& Z$ H* f7 G
(d) give or lend a financial
. _9 t3 h; W- E0 i7 ~responsibility card or a copy of it
) ?% ?& J c; [) x3 Oto a person not entitled to have that financial
+ l0 ?' `( V& ]/ lresponsibility card or copy.

1 l- u" Y3 n/ h7 q* X2 ^If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway. @3 s: U; a7 Z, M, a) h6 s. s; Z
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
+ p r4 M& M# N4 T9 }2 Ythe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
9 }; O- R; R, F g(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is; s& D' X0 s! U) B- M
not an insured motor vehicle.5 Q" a% o5 ?7 b, S t. _) ^
(2)9 J& S: ]% C3 G9 m) J
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this& {- ^0 m$ {4 Q' ^1 r
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
# R4 L4 M! g0 A( usection.
3 b4 r9 v9 |5 u m, p3 I& q4 T# a3 \(3); X# L, h, [7 T3 s1 f* f/ ^8 y+ {
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
2 {. S# d) z8 afinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
$ S+ w, z. F' _) lInsurance Act
8 n) p" o. B# A$ O5 pby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
; Z' E8 ]3 ]0 X* y+ Eoutside Alberta.
0 f* e* b% Q6 C. B0 s1 Q2 y(4)9 ~' n4 b: `& s
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection9 w* M- U- D/ X0 b/ T7 J
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable, [' B0 ?0 t7 A( i
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
* L8 [# o9 ]' o+ H1 Land not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to% k. }% V% P, l* O9 o3 X
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not4 j/ M) ~7 g# I
more than 6 months
6 ]9 i$ V1 {; ?# x) U
" O/ E) w5 E! y9 ZMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
