Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall" u6 G8 I& R4 D5 @; L+ T
not do any of the following:" k+ _$ E0 v" e' l
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
6 g3 m0 G3 \/ }$ {9 s! [, g+ hvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
: U- s! M4 p1 H! d2 Y7 ](b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
" C2 r1 F/ C, n, E \: y; mvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;) f: {" i# K' }! \. x3 q
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,6 T% c+ y' k" | ~* N4 t: \6 }6 l
permit another person# m& U4 ~+ s) p& G7 c* D
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or; @1 k6 K) a' w6 ?: ?
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
6 S: M1 M5 H" w+ I+ bunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;4 K& |( b, l8 `
(d) give or lend a financial
! V' O. G# _7 \5 \: ?8 J# \. vresponsibility card or a copy of it7 @4 f2 b% l" C
to a person not entitled to have that financial
. f8 L: l8 _( m& W4 Vresponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway( j v6 g' I- f ^- _+ W
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of! s8 |8 ]9 T7 h [' F* y! d1 J
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection( a1 X" `3 s7 l9 t4 U' n {' I
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is) p1 ^ ]9 @% B+ M5 o0 {
not an insured motor vehicle.# Q7 b0 b( C+ ^( R
(2)* ]2 F' g' n) {% x6 K
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this2 m# R# n) R$ _1 Y+ [% @
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this; J- l- R5 r7 E0 A
section.

outside Alberta.

% R5 ^+ t; l. ? V+ x, ^A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection) C! g, }' C( Y7 [
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable," U+ z- ^ ?4 I" {# A0 p
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500- ~8 b- G8 u' Y& G& {7 V
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
& @# A+ L1 K0 K* m' pimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
