Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall7 b! J2 P+ t: D& J" h
not do any of the following:7 ?7 h2 Q* m3 a3 j5 L1 \# `
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor0 H$ m. H$ h4 @* W
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;% r4 B f- t5 p2 g7 K
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
9 ~. ^6 {; E9 Wvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
: Q6 t4 j0 |# d* P# Z(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,3 z. u) F& w2 \$ ?) ?4 u4 o
permit another person# k: h5 d' t7 ^. d
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or; e5 @9 {* i: t) e
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
: W4 ~$ w3 q9 B+ yunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;2 I! S) {4 c E# A' \+ r; f
(d) give or lend a financial3 ~/ g) u( Y. h8 z. ]' |+ {! _
responsibility card or a copy of it
3 }+ D: E& B2 y! _to a person not entitled to have that financial3 `& h4 }& w& |5 x6 D9 h( S+ b$ E3 {

& }; h) R# a' Nthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection; [2 V W/ z# t; `9 j2 E
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is! t' r: i! d) h! s t1 k/ D

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a

W9 U# v8 c' eby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy+ m! Q% r, ~( ?: C& l4 t+ @
outside Alberta.! v# k6 F) d. E Z! C

b/ y! ?* G/ p+ @9 \A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
7 D3 _& p, s' ~) w5 t(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
. |9 A8 r$ B' n9 E7 K(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
1 M9 R ~$ {1 Tand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to4 _5 p+ T$ K! C4 [4 E2 S$ o2 C
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not8 A( J+ \2 H% e9 j% d5 y
more than 6 months

; z8 F6 A# i% F$ G4 F4 d9 y1 xMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
