Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall ~- g2 `! _) N
not do any of the following:2 f2 g! L: [" H# l* D+ f& x4 E
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
" N+ j( l- I8 w1 l! i. Z% Dvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
4 w2 B: g2 u- o$ J4 P4 a9 [(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor0 c2 t% t0 D; e6 P5 ~
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
) E4 B5 o& z% L* v! a" w(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,) s( D! M9 J1 P+ O4 V& v3 [$ w
permit another person
5 S/ Q% H# [- a ?; d(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
5 \, S5 r% f4 X0 O" v(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,% o* H+ `) M; P& C, A
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;; Y5 o: S1 y \- C$ ]( S! o
(d) give or lend a financial
- `* C3 I, {, h7 Y$ Y- D. N# ]responsibility card or a copy of it
- G5 w2 `7 [/ ?7 w/ m" i6 k1 q0 rto a person not entitled to have that financial
* q4 m/ P6 k/ g2 f$ e9 ]responsibility card or copy.

4 O- S2 s* J! v$ [% GIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
. ]( x0 i" x) p$ g# a/ }without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of3 J) }/ @7 F. u$ j
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
4 J6 x6 Z# l! V2 f* T(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this# g( a3 i7 D% I

financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the

; T$ N' `" Y& d" O4 k- o" l1 D: jby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy

8 G- f I5 m" E/ EA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection% H3 g; G4 ~4 e
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,0 A2 [ k+ e8 W# |8 I
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
% K& Q/ g3 C r* ]and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to' ~+ V, ?2 k- U/ T* J# d
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not. [1 p- V5 S# h
more than 6 months
. l9 M5 v" U5 Y$ {3 N1 zMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
