Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall( u4 c# y, P1 c+ L' x: [; b
not do any of the following:9 K, g5 r& U4 _% j2 O4 e# o2 @& S$ o
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor1 `- r1 m. P2 i9 X+ X
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;- m7 ?* ^( S [
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor( u0 ~0 Y3 C% C- b
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;! k9 S$ J9 J5 h! H o
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,- ^$ g8 m' F! ]: L0 O% \+ A
permit another person% z) i. z7 @) M) l% k+ T8 l1 L6 p
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or6 V- @6 U+ t6 N
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
9 {, P* @" h8 L/ }9 A" c' }$ K. Hunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;' E/ p' c5 e- @0 V+ h
(d) give or lend a financial
7 l. Q) c5 }3 j; cresponsibility card or a copy of it x% F, C/ I: i6 X) t, h% W: W8 F
to a person not entitled to have that financial
3 ?' j/ Y0 E4 `& P3 ?, |& d' Bresponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
' }' ^1 m! P9 o( p+ q% xwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of1 T; o8 h' h* v5 e6 x) l) v
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection+ D% P/ v5 Y h
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
; g& R1 ^# ~2 j2 ^# X- U: Knot an insured motor vehicle.; C* f1 E; W" r! _( P
(2)* u$ c' r( R: }3 o! u8 R
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
8 V+ `$ o! b, [0 a, e& O1 jAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this5 Q! [# C5 P( x; [8 c7 ]
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a( k5 b; F$ w( x: R& O" U* A
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the5 ?) c, H, k4 ^8 T
Insurance Act
1 a4 `5 u+ k% |% Nby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy& k4 F3 j$ Z2 B( A' v* k
outside Alberta.
0 P; o. w! R; D(4)
) q9 }2 A1 J+ a9 eA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection/ _, t J$ e) h0 i5 C
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable, b! ?5 f h( Y
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
& t1 h1 b* C% v# z, [& j+ fand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to( d: _+ y7 a* B, L9 X
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
/ z# |7 k9 t1 @8 B& Rmore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
