Insurance required

(1)
# ^/ N# ?" y; o1 w8 WExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall+ o( ?6 R5 s' N* c: \
not do any of the following:* `/ M* S" V6 M9 i" C* v4 _4 ` _
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor- y% f* `1 B' f4 ^
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
% X0 e i c; e# ]7 x8 C(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor1 Z$ Q: G6 X- v( N
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;0 X% Q9 Z1 K ^: K6 J
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,/ ~2 Q' x1 F$ {# B% f
permit another person
" K& \9 ]4 f/ C8 I' p5 r% q(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or9 j9 k* X8 M& y* s- _6 v* K8 a! A
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
6 a4 D/ L, w$ {0 N) Punless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 n, r4 P/ ?+ ]& A# t
(d) give or lend a financial
/ {" X! n' U& Q# j" M4 m3 Dresponsibility card or a copy of it
2 ?0 H l* x( @! [# B* Nto a person not entitled to have that financial
! U; ?4 ]' w* n1 Presponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
* k4 u8 E8 I+ B# W2 \/ Q, F2 Qwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of; E$ {- z2 D$ I0 v) a/ Q4 [( X$ m
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection! y" m) ~+ I% N4 | l8 @
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is0 e1 r9 ?3 D s
not an insured motor vehicle.0 N0 k4 }/ X* C8 c

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a3 n) P6 [: w& M% ?, {
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the, J/ V+ @+ Q v1 Z9 p( x
Insurance Act. Q V0 J! H+ ~
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
/ G% b7 e& v8 g* routside Alberta.6 J% ?) N3 ~" R; t: o$ j. I7 u$ P

1 a5 M6 [+ c3 ?+ @* ~) w0 lA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
! q$ [$ d a) [& _# D( R; Q: Z(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
% ~# Y' r) W, ^& u(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500$ F" Y3 q% t# F6 R$ F
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
' P9 O) x; p% b6 N0 Yimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
# N7 t( Z4 Q( j' r6 qmore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
