Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall# O: \7 G, u, h6 G' D
not do any of the following:
7 T* ^1 S0 Q: G9 A! w(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor Z/ X3 ?5 @. F$ n4 t2 C- f
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
* f0 f* q& U8 L" y7 c; v(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor# q, k* K! X3 }/ }2 B3 e
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
( {2 f" {* E- u9 P, q6 B) N(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,8 _0 J1 W' l2 g! ~. o) e* Q+ P
permit another person/ q+ V' S) J, j! l4 j4 I {
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or0 l- Y8 k/ S& ~" v; \
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
9 q6 G- W8 k0 f4 C! A: ^! Y5 a/ Aunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;3 Q8 N' W- z$ `
(d) give or lend a financial

to a person not entitled to have that financial0 h& q+ r& U2 j! \; N) n2 ?

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
1 o0 W" W$ J* N9 ?' h- a9 zwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
6 O& v/ m5 p7 Mthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
2 w: l5 K: ^! ^+ g2 |1 Q(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
+ a6 S- A4 C4 \+ O0 snot an insured motor vehicle.1 y9 H: Q/ o! L# p7 ?7 E6 x$ E

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a* r# O- T B( k# J, z. y8 a' @
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the* e4 n ?- w% V- x; C2 }% A
Insurance Act
0 v9 V8 w( n( vby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy) Y8 O, A2 i8 L* K) r
outside Alberta.+ H0 \7 X" T$ y
(4)& S. b+ c+ H1 O! L/ ?$ `6 M
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection) i; Q9 P( S! I. x$ f# x- P0 a
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
, {3 {2 l: R$ j+ |(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500. j0 l1 s+ P' ^- n9 B
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
& `& j* d. j- Uimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
: G# c) i; z" C- ?more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
