3 _( a* z. j- NExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
4 u$ D, T, U2 \! y7 X8 Jnot do any of the following:! W, P% v7 j2 Z5 Q* M6 ^% @
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor q# _* K4 ~, B6 `- u6 \/ W+ d
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;+ u0 G1 [ \8 h) W% E# c- h
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor8 ]: k3 A5 X7 j+ W. @
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;& K" W. q+ p' ?( w: k
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,! D6 p$ X! D* N* I. D; f# C2 Z
permit another person1 I8 b" S4 o2 |
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
! E. u- k' e1 l) f, X: F ?4 ](ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,& T" q, ?) b- y/ P" x
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;& S" l& O) Q6 t3 ^ a
(d) give or lend a financial
" H6 M( n/ }; t/ l; T* Xresponsibility card or a copy of it, T) |. Q$ W, c+ I4 G# u
to a person not entitled to have that financial. z" x% r* l% P) ?6 M3 \8 M- `: N& L
responsibility card or copy.

+ b6 |: ]( h8 a/ |3 U' vIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
6 n# Q5 E+ C3 B: R# vwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of# p0 O! `) X( I% ^. x
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
! v- U; D2 k4 o3 M(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
5 w' L+ ~( I0 {4 N$ u8 {not an insured motor vehicle.

7 P' ~7 g) R3 ^( {" y: nIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
* s4 y# t- u- i8 \Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

(3)+ }, R* ?/ z, e
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a5 z: Z0 E, A5 V. z& Z4 v
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
# R% z) v0 s1 H# [8 `Insurance Act. D( E6 s( W4 } z% A, |/ f
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
6 W; h$ ^3 K3 i+ z0 U- j0 ioutside Alberta.
% i4 x. v. Z" l( E7 ]. x(4)
! ]9 d' n3 Y |9 w" S6 B9 KA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection C/ j( Y. C! a" i" }
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,8 e. D R' e; J/ `5 P- j8 V. n
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
1 T- |( }( Q* H' a& O4 R% hand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
% Z) d I" F% C8 V2 @( d F u! z) Simprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
5 `+ k+ m1 t" C: s) X4 F4 Omore than 6 months
( o6 c; G' S6 l" r( X8 ?9 mMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
