Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall, O4 C+ v1 ]8 V+ q
not do any of the following:
6 H1 S- N1 p/ p5 y V' k(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
% ?# [/ O% { `$ R7 z( Evehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
" |# ~' W& P. f ]4 V* q% [8 E(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor9 T; d) c1 o) F( Z9 k
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;, \, m+ j* _- V4 c" h n
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,, y% I+ K( l$ @: c7 V- T
permit another person2 H" n3 S) Z+ f I
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or7 b4 G, L. I0 S b
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
. k" g! z4 _ H: ?& n# bunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;9 K% M; d. c3 t9 j7 S9 a# j, M r$ F
(d) give or lend a financial& k# {$ ?1 m8 K" w6 N
responsibility card or a copy of it
. H! s% }( O u( V) D Sto a person not entitled to have that financial
* ~2 [/ a- g$ ^8 ^* Yresponsibility card or copy.

) h& x( x% M' |1 d* \If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
) a0 _& m* Y6 @: a7 @6 ]5 I0 rwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
! [& f% T9 W6 J/ h0 B& P2 d( U N" Xthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection* p; R, _3 p) Q: w1 S
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is7 `9 [3 v) N+ F: ~. w4 |
not an insured motor vehicle.7 s I8 V3 p# m% y1 y! k6 I: i
(2)( ~4 W6 F8 a$ F, p# {% ~
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this8 \! J; z# I: [* f6 Q
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this/ c1 W8 i1 Q- N( _8 b
section.
7 W6 r* ~+ A1 I0 k(3)' ~' J$ N7 n: U5 g! }
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a/ V z& T0 U0 B$ V( c) x* I# G
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the' v: V+ k) z \. v' _, a3 {
Insurance Act, A: V: P1 r" n
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
# E! a4 A( l uoutside Alberta.
( {% x) c$ i9 I) I$ Y(4)1 z v! x/ ]5 M A% e' S. p
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection& M: S1 n F' i- F
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable, M: B! n* r! o
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25001 _. v" [, O$ z- L8 P& `
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to+ V* z% \) z1 C8 \/ r; Q' h+ d1 w$ l
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
- C2 M( z, {, Q) `: l1 Gmore than 6 months
# @* L4 X) t. d$ X1 w" n- S! l E( V/ @$ y
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
