(1)
; @- O' }, q9 [+ ^7 E, P5 IExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall

(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor6 d: _2 M8 o1 J2 X: w* z
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
. Q. x% G+ ~$ J" m" {+ t(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
# e- }* Y* q) Z X. svehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
( a% x9 l! S; [1 _(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
: ^+ v+ f7 n4 P; Xpermit another person
1 H, b" v/ A4 P: m+ M; Q, W(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or$ S' i/ x1 Y. i- w5 u
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,1 X4 |; X6 F: s( u8 z
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
6 _& n4 X" O* M, Z: M8 M(d) give or lend a financial$ h. H0 V+ }2 ^" M
responsibility card or a copy of it
7 a. ~* l2 o& L( D! uto a person not entitled to have that financial$ J* C4 p& l" R+ q/ l$ V: Q$ y
responsibility card or copy.
& f5 H! S0 \7 M: S m0 A(1.1)
& k1 a7 }2 y2 \3 `" LIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway5 Q5 P! m( `9 O2 u2 r$ u: i" b
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
7 ~+ j; o( Z: B* D& jthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection; L4 T9 M. C1 u9 I) [) z* t
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
2 T" W# u- W+ x+ C" e) P# Cnot an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
+ t% x, T: B/ [2 N% w6 l& t* C uAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
1 L+ a/ J7 R1 ]2 tsection.

, n0 o7 _+ P; v+ U' u7 R& q0 U7 ^9 b9 fSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a1 C* _3 `% i" I8 H+ O1 f4 j
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the$ O' l& y) q2 d4 G- `0 p4 k' V% l; A
Insurance Act; o: z* k: R& K- ~$ d3 ]; D
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
0 G* y5 {- ~' l" E+ V* moutside Alberta.
+ d2 d" f: F$ f' d; z6 L9 q- {2 q(4)5 m8 Y/ [9 W5 V- ^: j
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection$ [2 I/ n) l; {
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
6 V' A9 `6 [7 w' ](a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500! t# m) k+ x$ J
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to/ A8 g5 Q; v; c) f) E% n- I
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
# l8 D$ _* Y5 V. E; T+ M" j0 dmore than 6 months
; O5 U# O6 A$ d- s! {( T) G, a# }Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
