not do any of the following:' q! L/ y9 V( ~2 q
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor: ?* n$ R9 i8 o+ O& o, L
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;) \. e# s' t$ y4 L5 J& {
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor0 T4 C$ p6 u( ^0 X8 Z6 c' L

(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,3 p, m" J# R6 P

(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or6 Y+ L& a6 S, b8 ?
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,

to a person not entitled to have that financial

! t$ ]6 X) k" J2 BIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway0 Z& |7 w. e H! C8 M* I' N. k
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
5 ?4 [* Z- L5 I/ gthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
2 R9 I( N0 b7 ]3 V1 x* u(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is( K) K2 r% O3 o5 V5 V
not an insured motor vehicle.0 D5 q& `4 O1 B1 ?+ X" n# D( F

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this: w9 D2 B- V0 F6 h {! J/ m W0 z4 k
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

! e+ {. N- e$ MSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a1 j( @) `& b( @- A
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the

8 Z8 Q' K! L# C9 A9 p4 ^by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy) t4 }6 G) n ?+ B$ V H, l
outside Alberta.( X$ s0 ?" \ A, z+ S, ~) I5 |& s

6 m. `- T. ~# D4 N( u1 b' |A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
: L# _2 m+ }/ w' n D8 V4 k(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
1 a4 \1 S# @& R6 \9 G6 t4 I(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
5 @ I6 H7 Y$ N. nand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to4 t! q* _# v$ g/ @3 c! z
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
8 C4 m+ {" h% t, e% }: Z) b8 N1 }more than 6 months
4 U1 T+ f7 j5 g2 E5 z5 x/ }+ g2 {* {* b# C9 j% Y
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
