Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
4 L! c0 A; R6 v- Xnot do any of the following:
2 ?8 ]# M7 B( g* U(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
& B Y. x+ N# i* {' nvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
$ x) g) J0 \, z/ ^(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
! Z5 ^8 c2 w% u# o! Cvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
/ X1 S& L+ O: A# a! a(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,& r' j* r1 D, { Y
permit another person; F5 P6 X6 L$ o4 z* d. k) S
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
* v3 Q4 A' }+ U3 W) U- [(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
+ E1 H4 ?2 }; I2 y# Hunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

9 V9 l! z( C. }0 a( X3 h, ~responsibility card or a copy of it
9 B' a3 t1 E; z1 J+ k6 @3 `- ~0 ?) uto a person not entitled to have that financial e6 {" u5 o! }& q( p( P/ ~
responsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
- U7 t# v, [7 l. U/ A9 i+ Ewithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of- F; Z4 X( s0 n- o
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection' ]9 d: r. ~. |3 t) d( o% S9 h- T0 F
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is8 r6 a/ p) V0 k$ |8 K' [
not an insured motor vehicle.+ s2 t$ y4 ~( m+ ^' e+ g: @' p' i

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this( }1 t# v( w/ c, ?2 N1 r
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this6 w4 \ Z8 c3 W. M O* r# \

, Q n2 y4 H5 I, Y6 L# T8 MSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
( ^9 h- Q$ w# d* v: }financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the; p4 o7 q# ^$ j P1 ^7 T, ]; P+ {
Insurance Act
) J! u! X# J1 zby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy5 X; g& j# j% r. I
outside Alberta.
# v' g6 m. {* k) s7 p(4)
( G; n3 m" z$ V3 x6 E+ w. b0 Z* yA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
" p8 ?! u3 Z! \8 n, W8 c% `(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
F, U) ^, A5 g. m/ h(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
8 @ O( d- l% z2 }1 y( }. T( z4 Dand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to( [2 @! Z3 V5 j2 I( M
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not* }: i( k0 I+ N, ?0 Y
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
