(1). P1 J7 x# _5 n& h. {
Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall: M1 H8 G- C& x' z& ?
not do any of the following:
9 o. x) h3 k8 z5 i" r* @0 P* S* i A f(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
, F+ C) {5 G0 W. W% `vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
' O A8 U# r- k( C6 t5 H0 H. ]% z* x(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
x" s e+ i7 ?vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
9 c$ p) x8 J# Q3 o3 A0 ^(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
& R. u" c$ \: V2 ppermit another person) A& h$ ]2 y6 F3 f5 E! g
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or8 V$ \2 l( \) n. ^1 W% j* i- p
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
% T, n. H* y( _/ Eunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 c7 i- j2 L1 |8 L# U
(d) give or lend a financial% E u" X/ z; [/ z3 t$ X( Y
responsibility card or a copy of it! L" H$ l% c( ?, [1 ~$ x; @0 y
to a person not entitled to have that financial, l/ H) A/ R: ^# i8 \
responsibility card or copy.

+ v) A% I3 U( L4 Z: T9 S' LIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway; F k% }" u- D) K9 c! @) K/ }9 M
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
- i' f/ E* h, b* Qthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection4 ~! G: }: b2 w, i6 ]$ V; g
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is5 Z6 v) d; x* s. l
not an insured motor vehicle.3 V8 v# ?5 I e5 Z) b3 ^
(2)& S( c3 t% K! M& p
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this" m) N! l- C# W9 M+ F
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
& ?2 g5 O) p ]5 B( E! Q' Rsection.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a$ W7 ` G; z. K+ O
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the9 ] H7 |, h% g
Insurance Act F5 N/ O# J! \) g: H: |/ Z h1 }" Q
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy1 Z. ?; T) K8 o; b! J* p4 l6 ]
outside Alberta.0 e5 O1 I- ]3 S6 [ H, u
(4)6 S5 W; H# W6 O% [0 x; Q* T9 c
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection. q% l9 B' l+ j$ P& g, C
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,8 x A4 _7 s) U! [# L/ z
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500. ?9 L# v% i! l& f' f& e+ p' @
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
+ }7 P8 x0 G" [0 J, ?imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
6 @: r- {( ^3 c+ A! k! qmore than 6 months
2 c: }# S8 ~7 `$ u D5 |
6 M1 ]8 }+ b/ ^Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
