Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall7 u9 k2 q1 ?; x2 j# {: W2 U
not do any of the following:
+ a% \6 }* U/ ^( }, N% V(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor% R1 A( q. V' \5 Y) n% A4 Q) c
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;. t; Q) Z* F) Y; E/ y
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor3 J" V1 d9 E% }. x: Y5 z; k0 d' o% b8 S
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
5 V! {2 O) M* R; e' G2 t* `(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,) b! g# V0 [! L+ s
permit another person n7 _! t, B2 B% i: n
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
! o/ g1 l" a8 [6 F(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
. ~3 | I7 q+ k# J- l+ |! iunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

to a person not entitled to have that financial

/ Y. D3 e7 o% \If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
, O o+ R: h: [0 `# Q) a7 A" _without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
8 @- X/ Y$ g' ~, Othe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
+ b2 y7 D! A4 a(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is- F7 y4 }8 U9 n6 d

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
& q3 M5 v: D/ j, TAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

+ T# k& G! G5 {' D- ySubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a2 g, d' B/ N1 ]
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the

5 L) G+ l, T- q9 ?by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy1 |$ f" A6 a' v& v' }4 r U- ]# l
outside Alberta.5 I1 k8 U; T) u3 N- C- S% `0 I" ?

A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection5 }4 k+ d q* Y& @
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
0 }/ c2 Y! T1 a- p6 [3 B(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500$ Y- h: L+ \7 n+ B; W& \" Q
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
; ^+ A0 O* A. c8 M+ F- s; }8 Eimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
7 u3 g- x. O8 _, V/ q8 Amore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
