Insurance required

- c" O; }. P* ]. J/ pExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
( O: F/ Q \( q2 n, wnot do any of the following:7 r+ Y3 D ? y. R# S& W4 A
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor, B6 A8 U& V) V' ^" @1 ]5 e! |4 G, ^% R+ D
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;+ h( c( M* S( h
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor$ D( G0 y+ U0 @" q: q- i0 E5 r
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
$ n3 ~: R9 ^. K6 |& s" `. b(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,3 Q1 q7 r- }8 [0 a+ V
permit another person1 E9 j- y/ t# k0 O7 }8 o. J/ d+ f, k
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or- U' T) d- l) m. P M) R
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,/ w7 |6 {; |/ y& F/ P
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

responsibility card or a copy of it- ?, v; w/ r2 Y0 r; f
to a person not entitled to have that financial

) E, y% V2 Q% `8 k- TIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
2 ~9 y6 W- X* Pwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
+ T2 R$ f/ z2 }& |! d' k# M) M9 Hthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
4 Y* K1 k; B$ W m$ @' K(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is9 Q) v Z# x: \& k+ i
not an insured motor vehicle.

7 i$ @! A7 w. [If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this i" u* q7 k$ x) g2 t& h: g
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

# S5 N7 _3 i. y* c. a \Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a" L" P. H2 s8 i' O
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the. A* W/ x3 }9 _2 L
Insurance Act

outside Alberta.

A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection R/ f+ G. F5 b; D8 @. n! M" O
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
' u8 O+ ^* D1 g! J3 V. ~(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25008 H V# g9 ~1 Y) r, X
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
/ v l4 a! W3 }2 y% _imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not+ Q# ?- p; ^ |$ Q4 N3 {
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
