Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall0 B8 _+ l( n7 m0 q& `" E
not do any of the following:! \+ R6 ]: g/ x% x0 b
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
2 g3 d0 @3 ]! b* m; Rvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;! k6 n. k# w k( M
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor+ E% r7 g: _2 j8 j, K6 C. P
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;/ K4 w6 G/ V' T0 ^& U" ]' c
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,/ i, l/ T5 f* D/ r" k5 w0 V
permit another person
9 y, x+ u$ c) Y# _# |% `! m) q(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or' @0 u3 Y! G1 p, q# H
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
7 ~2 [; r# {% Z+ zunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;; O4 W* O z- X# n8 D0 _7 x( i
(d) give or lend a financial1 L4 ]+ A$ ]/ d( e/ ^1 X$ n% o5 x
responsibility card or a copy of it$ Y& b$ r* b# {9 W
to a person not entitled to have that financial. k( C0 a/ q. {" h4 {
responsibility card or copy.) ]! o3 L- W* B! Z7 h

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
' Z; ?* y, h- ]2 S4 D; Y+ H8 s' s! ~without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of& u2 ?/ d6 y7 f$ C7 x+ D
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
2 z* i6 @7 L% e: v- H(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is2 `9 W6 h' z% u7 V A9 G& P) E
not an insured motor vehicle.
4 q0 I+ z9 R8 @0 e(2)
" W. _+ w' b) T* ^" `8 @! ]9 WIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
! x4 h2 j% a4 W! J5 |' v; B( ?Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this" t! `& w3 T' z4 d o
section.
4 h4 |8 l8 i N& R' Q(3)5 n- y, B) K; w0 q; K0 ]& z
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a& v- C+ J, D% s: q0 F6 T7 p3 M Z
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
7 |: U! J% j ?0 h% M) I, a1 bInsurance Act0 d# r, t% `0 J6 Q4 D
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
6 V$ p/ N0 l; }' h# O: V4 voutside Alberta.
; h- a U. f/ q! B, \(4)
% s B: E4 y' O1 ^A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection, G0 D% A, Y" B& _$ k
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
+ O6 q& E2 }0 n- e(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500& V: N+ z+ x" p! X
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to" G' h+ Q v6 _9 N+ E/ ]0 F
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not: `# o) \0 Y5 f: v3 G
more than 6 months
/ F5 v9 n8 H0 M- j( F3 D) Y. ~/ z- b6 }2 z
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
