Insurance required

not do any of the following:3 o+ I% n( Z9 E
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor' f5 o0 A' B0 K6 c2 F& _6 u2 ^
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;* { B0 F0 n% R4 Z z
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
; i* T& D8 u7 |1 k" y; v! {* bvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
5 \& t& q/ g9 Q* ^3 ~1 M0 a* |+ ]7 X0 P(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,: d% T7 e: M# W n3 F, I. l
permit another person9 j. y3 @5 r5 K% e4 ?; M* G9 n+ u
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
! f g" C) i7 r( z) ?' `(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
5 J, X& U7 t* `" Ounless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;4 Y+ b4 D) ]. V9 A3 }
(d) give or lend a financial& x. |# B: p3 ~% _1 i& D; ]
responsibility card or a copy of it$ q- f/ Y' B5 l/ p2 o; J' _
to a person not entitled to have that financial
0 R& B+ e K) E& yresponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway* w0 D) a0 C& ~7 d5 u6 M7 V
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of- o( C e( t# v. F) b4 [: T
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
+ x& a2 _: C& D f, l7 H$ M(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
# q1 L) @% |+ F4 fnot an insured motor vehicle.! N4 S4 ~7 i; b& Y3 h0 [+ S8 W* m, M
(2)" e3 G" r8 V- _$ @! `" { L! r3 W
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this0 i9 @ w% G, J4 ~
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
7 z5 D- L8 E9 y$ I0 g, }section.

2 X+ I! I5 n2 L. I$ |1 Q3 @9 Z; |0 ]Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a4 b% v4 H$ }& @. ?1 @% T7 |* W
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
+ E: h- J9 M0 u L: X- |* SInsurance Act
% Z8 I% ^9 E! N9 a& Z+ _5 Dby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy% J0 E' J% x" n& p
outside Alberta.
' L' K( G8 \2 e/ F(4), L. |) ^4 j. d' v- U( D4 X1 x* h
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
5 U2 C, h$ t; G(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
4 A; i+ Z. o" C9 D) Q(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25000 x# \" O- R3 U5 K
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to( p; S2 q2 a2 J- _
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not- r. x) U. Z/ w+ j6 V8 d3 p& q
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
