+ ?3 i/ E. @4 y7 m& nExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall/ W* s: V. j9 Z" G' m
not do any of the following:# R( H' K: c9 q* a: D; g
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
: k$ _8 }) s6 v& n: }) C! w6 ^2 xvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;1 S B% x% M3 ?2 z, x$ D& Y
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor3 {& k4 X6 h2 L, A
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;- v: ^) j( D3 Z2 J6 g. d7 ]8 ^* \6 r
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
7 f$ M; u4 W/ K8 `6 U8 vpermit another person
3 y+ [8 ^% f0 ^% f" o# M7 J(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or( Q/ q: e- }) k: p% j
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
1 G. e, @# D2 q! x& [9 Punless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
" D9 m& ]$ z9 `8 t9 d' @(d) give or lend a financial
" I- _1 i" g* N) sresponsibility card or a copy of it
: ?; v5 F2 H7 Xto a person not entitled to have that financial
8 Y* H; m5 X6 _+ C# b& o+ @responsibility card or copy.
) z: }4 J0 A8 R$ g0 u& z4 o0 U5 H: g(1.1)) k; L# J8 v8 y6 S
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway n8 m5 \# o- u. x- P8 r" X4 ~
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of9 |( `6 U% J+ z* P
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection6 y# M, ]$ F- Y
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
- H( s" M7 g+ y& t- X$ k! u, Y' knot an insured motor vehicle.( o: P2 w2 e& \' d

- B+ S5 |5 u: h# { L1 cIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this0 l( f$ @: L/ N6 d) ~
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

' f& m0 L1 w4 N$ v U% LSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a8 [$ ^5 ~; W3 W% E
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the; s# {: P. i/ U! L
Insurance Act
! E7 F9 Y! Q! ?& O2 \ wby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
3 H. v6 H9 N. ^1 ^outside Alberta.
h5 ~) J" x5 E/ }' n% L/ \% `; Z(4)
; E9 U; G" D- A. F ^A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
) I+ C5 [ J% @" c(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,7 ~0 _3 u0 ~" {" L* i
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
1 L8 G; ?* {: X! J% J3 E9 |; Jand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
/ ?6 V+ C$ ^, R2 M$ U; Uimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not/ [9 [9 _) d1 Z7 V8 g N* T
more than 6 months
+ z- u, z+ s# i" X/ OMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
