Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall* i; {& `! P$ k5 }
not do any of the following:
" V/ z C& A- r! m2 P(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
( n% x! D( K% Mvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
+ J! D% D5 a$ b: m" _" W$ x0 m(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor: P4 n* s8 o# ?. x; ?
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
0 B' _8 M/ A" J+ g(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
4 k: x9 F9 J" ~. }1 Tpermit another person& X) ]' K5 E- [, _- H
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
4 S8 D) z5 N X4 N4 q% P' T(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
' E4 f" J9 u% z" d1 Munless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;, W. F0 H' O7 l* O, g) h( Z+ ~
(d) give or lend a financial7 T3 \+ K5 [# E; x2 [8 E+ J
responsibility card or a copy of it

the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection& p/ ` E& J2 A
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
& ?" q6 O4 H( b, N# Wfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the* }* {5 L/ }; V

by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy* O+ ]! s- F+ w- E( P6 E4 |8 G
outside Alberta.& Z) Z: @1 G6 R. r- \1 V0 x' J" ]# W) y! H

1 n' E+ b7 V- e% u' u1 cA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection$ l1 I7 R9 V# o
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
+ G$ b) z0 [. r8 f: N. X(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
: i6 z; |' r3 }- V* B/ K, Hand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to3 t9 q& ]) U% c
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not/ B {+ H/ U( L9 m9 h, N5 D9 C
more than 6 months
