Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall

(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor, E! ?1 P1 y5 _: T
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
2 U7 u9 y' K: c( m; w(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor1 ^$ x/ _1 E8 V% t1 c( @4 W
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
. S) R2 @* c: w, W' f/ e3 B(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,: x4 l5 k' C8 D9 {/ v
permit another person6 H: A' p% {! K! a) }- F. U
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
, p4 Z* C8 E M9 E. q(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
- X9 p$ K& p- X/ q5 B! Cunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
$ O6 u3 s6 P; p(d) give or lend a financial
" h4 L- k G: D. Z- Z1 r1 l$ sresponsibility card or a copy of it
$ i8 b, H$ @7 V$ f) F0 O2 Xto a person not entitled to have that financial
' q" T; l' v# X5 ]responsibility card or copy.9 B9 X6 C6 X4 n) \! t9 S

without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
8 g( y7 E# v- }3 dthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
' i) ]6 Q. `- O1 v(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
- g9 c( s( i3 Nfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the

by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
: n. F* Q' \/ ]: M. Uoutside Alberta.

0 y m: J5 V G$ k" IA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection7 l2 v q) @9 X* M
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
7 n1 i- N- t% R+ u, ?" o& y(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
' l) p3 ]0 s: C* ~. Rand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to: ?3 ^* v( `; l0 Y- Y9 X3 k j+ Q
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not: w8 r% V5 d4 k% Z$ j/ ]3 X! V
