5 D, a y8 Q- f# r8 S) t: D% ?. [Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
- C8 [; ]1 \8 ]0 J5 `# \7 ynot do any of the following:0 q! E# t. T& W$ o3 R
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor' H/ C) c8 q; }- W7 }/ S# S/ I9 s& \
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
1 Z6 h8 K. a3 Z! X1 S& t, n; W(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
( \7 g! v! t! ?; Ivehicle is an insured motor vehicle;9 a# Z/ _0 Q5 F' L' k+ h
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
$ X6 A2 r7 G+ O6 {1 I$ P# }permit another person5 e7 ~( H* C! ~
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
2 x" ^/ @) x* {; z: c(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
! B/ D" A+ Z* x$ @, a- p$ l2 @unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

responsibility card or a copy of it

responsibility card or copy.

" r+ Y1 x2 k: k7 m' ^If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway4 z* i1 z N" r8 y6 \
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of5 p s# a( @3 i* J6 }
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection5 j& I- z7 o! N2 n0 C; a
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is9 ]/ k/ n/ y% ^5 {' G8 W/ Y
not an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this ` l0 M8 j t3 y3 K4 p8 @' r
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this k) o" S, Q2 [- R4 R1 G ^
section.

t/ i3 Y+ F& o. s* Z$ y" ~4 HSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
^4 E: J: q3 U7 V6 m; s/ afinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the C8 J8 V% h8 k% l7 K
Insurance Act
. Q5 a3 C# l) Z- y1 xby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
4 [2 u7 @* ?! J% Xoutside Alberta.$ z, [: [/ b' v! Z
(4); t- e; A0 F, `
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
1 l T$ @8 a' V; D. r% Y1 l(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,+ ? X' k# j3 X7 [% D4 {
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
/ V; E. g9 n) N& x" Dand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to N0 I$ F) `5 p! i$ T
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not& M$ j* `% H4 B1 ^" s5 w) A) H# E
more than 6 months
. }4 f) Z: E fMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
