) k: l3 C. P D# z" v f) d" t: i q8 oExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall, W5 s& M" n. b% J
not do any of the following:
5 }2 B6 b O' O$ A(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
; E$ }( ^/ S2 P: ^vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
0 k# F) `! i# h8 m' K(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor7 G* f* X. X: B. [' ^( A( [1 e
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
+ s4 T! Z5 h: w" v* C(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,/ M7 @ A6 N! I* [
permit another person
! G3 X+ b l) r6 Y(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or, Q* y* b$ R/ `2 I
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,& V# l# O% q- s* M: z
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
8 h: G$ v- i1 r(d) give or lend a financial6 G9 g$ i+ A2 p: y
responsibility card or a copy of it2 N! k5 P+ D1 S& ^8 |! F/ y( f. A
to a person not entitled to have that financial
( i. A: e! }, C, ]7 k, V0 k: Lresponsibility card or copy.8 z# @/ q& Z0 k
(1.1)/ z% \. Y/ E/ t
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
* H' n" R" U& P' i- P* Z' R8 j( hwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of% z+ r/ b: I, l* m5 X* n& t
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
* W4 ]% y1 w# A3 C2 {% q z3 R(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is6 w" f( J0 B' Z8 h1 C
not an insured motor vehicle.

& F2 _8 d0 Y/ gIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this7 a/ j( S1 d' }4 H" v" n9 ^. i$ ~
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
! b. K; b1 U( z! h+ E; l8 Bsection., r+ P/ L' A" x
(3)4 y' l4 z2 }4 y; D% I, I" }
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
9 G" r: ]# P! w7 i e0 dfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
% n9 A6 C, s! Z+ a" L H* MInsurance Act* u# x$ T! Q: ^! L
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy1 J! Y' s4 A Y+ a, P$ l) r
outside Alberta.
9 w! S- y$ ^4 \(4)2 R( S A2 m' _% F2 f" ^0 O
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection) R5 p9 E4 q& ~; Q' L
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,; v% F; n; I: _( @ N) I
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
. ]) n9 t- R+ W- f/ B8 a) Aand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to$ W& Y \6 d1 W" _1 c
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not/ q' M8 m K* Q, s; _
more than 6 months

. R2 J8 U) h& y+ x+ U0 t {Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
