`$ q* j) x: t% e! uExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
( N6 f& C- w$ y6 ^, K" {# `not do any of the following:
& Q2 d6 ^, z) p" `1 k(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
8 z5 t; w4 n1 R8 }, ? Svehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
i* Z2 F* j4 U7 T2 C/ X" j(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor& L2 J# ], A1 n4 V: t
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
" D( f9 u+ `+ K) H/ b(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
$ s; D5 d1 X4 R( w% kpermit another person
+ d" c! d) V( s0 K y1 Q, ~* M& S(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or9 F/ D4 ?4 @ ]+ J" K6 Y! D
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,9 W- v8 A A: b
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
% b2 r, p! L9 A% t P1 i" s. u(d) give or lend a financial
* G j9 ]+ i- ]% Q% f' p$ Sresponsibility card or a copy of it6 d6 ^+ o* _7 ~- w" M# `& A
to a person not entitled to have that financial; f) B1 x$ o2 p h! ^& V
responsibility card or copy.

+ K) `* y% j/ {3 `If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
F& k- {6 Z9 gwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of6 @& Y; |* j3 |& S3 q
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection9 c) H% h1 @7 J Y: |4 _
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is" @4 z: u# s5 h7 ?5 s& c# Q
not an insured motor vehicle.- L3 c- l/ z( @5 z7 r

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this* u9 C1 y5 Q2 p* X8 G
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this8 _6 N! d" m7 S8 n7 t" F+ r9 R

' \' [; Z; i) a k0 D8 m( M4 JSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a* Q8 v& Y1 T" Q7 _% @+ O; U
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the+ |5 Q4 `: w) G
Insurance Act
3 e+ O. o( s5 |" f3 B3 [" ^! gby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy

A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection0 D) r! L- I# N
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
' Z6 \" `! v4 ~- y, H/ E1 A g+ x(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500+ P% B- ?1 i2 a$ J
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
, y, h: `# O2 V+ s- G3 T6 X% f" qimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
" J$ @- V+ E5 I9 d; _0 L, n4 Tmore than 6 months
