Builders started construction on 468 new single detached homes last month, a 34 per cent increase from August 2013.% j1 j. M- M' f2 _0 S! T

“Right now we're running flat out, we’re building as much as we can,” said Rob Busby, construction manager for Landmark Homes.

# A" \' y; k0 I7 D& tThe increased demand is due to strong job and population growth, according to Christina Butchart, senior analyst with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.+ Z0 [1 K+ t1 u
