EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

7 P/ L ?9 F3 {! H k% _, ^. s0 |The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre., o U" c r1 U) h9 {
% Z# w8 I w8 b+ oPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.2 K1 {) `9 l) I0 P' d

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."0 P4 }8 y# i8 A3 H6 ]7 `
