EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.
% Q0 _2 U' B, d: X* T7 d1 K# V3 Z# r& j& N
The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre., @/ s. c) r/ K, u; N
: T# y( S& ]* J- [" }- ^' g
Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."% |1 R* H8 k0 x6 @9 g
