question for shower pan?

0 v) `+ w# S2 T3 G& ~4 Q7 y4 _3 Odoes a curb needed by code in building a mortar shower pan for a tile shower? the curb looks ugly and dangerous for older people.  i wonder if i can have a tile shower without the curb, only slop and glass panel to prevent water splash out.
