In phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community' [8 O/ |# G! d' G6 M
Engagement Training.

8 T; D/ P3 ?8 f' U; p, Q! G' ?. `6 pWe can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday,
- {2 T8 D9 K* T3 W, P. k$ { G8 z(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood
5 s2 E2 i8 @, i; Zgroups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work8 C$ E( v7 q' W$ V/ C9 L+ H6 A
together across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy* j, ?' ^! p3 P0 n
Communities can often support these projects with funding of up to $1,000.

Pacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years
0 J2 g! V2 Y( k v c' Mof fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter
% S$ |' I$ Q$ g) t$ O, R$ D. e/ S; rconflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the
: @3 T- Y: Q Z2 r9 I; w7 q% L7 Linternational community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition:
: T+ X9 g% D6 @' Ythey come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter0 m' b6 F8 H9 M: ?: x+ l
Iain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the% [7 H- v- I: }; R4 X6 i) t
island and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed
4 q/ w5 _1 `2 {9 P- ?; tinternational peacekeeping operation.

This beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their; h$ q6 F# R# i x b" u
own story and captures the struggles, the strength and the humor of a people x! D; {) I' V. N7 }/ _9 r
who brought themselves back from the chaos of war. At a time when our TV7 ^5 Y2 b, k0 P# `4 q
screens are filled with images from the interventions in Iraq and
6 b% ~6 E. I* Q" dAfghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems
1 |' G( q, i, `- H) ^improbable: an unarmed international intervention fostering local customs
5 G0 P8 y( \& ?% F9 `5 pand music to strengthen an indigenous-run peace process < and it worked!, k. f) D6 W$ t9 {

According to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the8 M) m/ k5 y) O, P
success of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole% L8 h" G" p. ?0 S: `$ U1 l5 G/ m) B
process, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the4 {1 x8 o1 q. p
hands of the militants and the people, rather than the other way around.# ]) m% R( B% Z) |/ j
Also, because we were unarmed we couldn't scare anyone into doing anything,# C3 U. N: H# n
so we learned to communicate instead. That's where music came in."2 T( ?: [3 O" i1 V
