CALGARY -- Alberta's new solicitor general hopes to have more boots walking the beat this year, intensifying the fight against crime in the province. ) s7 I7 n2 q* A9 w& D4 B1 Z
! G* q/ P3 R9 \% wFred Lindsay told Sun Media yesterday plans are in the works to increase the number of RCMP officers and special constables patrolling Alberta roads this year. $ n' T* a, c: [' E6 ~* f' D1 f

MThough any moves have to be approved in the province's budget, Lindsay said he's looking at boosting the ranks of the Mounties patrolling rural Alberta, to help curb a flood of urban organized crime groups, who are moving their operations to rural areas where there is less of a police presence.
