EDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants.

The two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above.

“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.- e0 K: v' Q0 Q9 h b: X; H3 f

It also will include hotel-quality washrooms and private sitting rooms for nursing mothers.

The expansion is expected to create at least 500 new full-time and part-time jobs.
