Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
9 \. i1 y; c9 e- uDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
. r. a2 E5 C4 g2 i: k: y• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
% K+ f4 r; K: ~% F5 n R• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
5 @* l4 B& K' F3 y) v: |) R( m• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.5 I3 N* _ O2 X' {" h
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works- W ~6 a C$ A2 f7 l8 X
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
) B# `3 C1 I! b$ s; G• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
, M2 H; W+ }, F- w4 \• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
1 e" B% J: s1 d' H- w4 s• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
2 O& u; o4 w4 |( `* A• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
: X. l; A& C# R) O/ t• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.4 p' }3 e+ M2 D( g' c: Z9 g- I
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
0 M* C) v4 y. c2 N/ N. `• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

. p( q$ ?" C* H( ?: ^4 j• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.

• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.( g& V& Y7 |) D
Functions of all positions:

8 Z f/ q0 j$ } W; W/ x• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
T' H; b2 Y( u6 D• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
3 M; o) l' G5 J; _5 r- s- z• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.6 |8 ~0 O0 X/ b0 W0 E. `
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.0 A) o: C# M2 U4 D4 |: \
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.8 Y1 T* l6 j! i) H& e/ Q; n
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.0 ^; h$ h+ t8 M- |) K
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.: W( c& o' \3 p0 m9 W$ b
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.' ^& p6 l3 @1 P9 }
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.( ^2 `# }. ]% l P; O4 c i( ^
