unless you're working in the oil and gas industry and drive in the "no-man's land", where you you can spend days in the woods and not find a gas station, you shouldn't need to carry extra gas in the back trunk... but if you do want to carry some, it's better to fill up the whole container than leaving it unfilled. the reason is because the hydrocarbon vapour, ie the gas fumes are a lot a more volatile and likely to have an explosion or a flash fire than liquid hydrocarbons, ie gasoline in liquid form. any static electricity discharge can cause an explosion with hydrocarbon vapour, whereas if you push a lit match into a jerry can full of gasoline really quick, and submerge it, the fire from the match will be put out without starting a fire...  |
