* a& H: F( E4 s1 vJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
1 E4 i9 z5 F, E: s3 sthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  $ v6 w$ r! u! D7 C8 {9 G
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  ; }8 q+ X7 \+ v9 k9 ]5 B
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee    P( Y% m* e( e: \2 Y1 b$ D
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
& T2 w2 d3 c' p0 @year following their appointment.

0 U+ v. d. v: \- \# w/ IDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
* K$ g/ j7 C. Y' e0 A
$ f9 W3 T/ c2 g2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

6 A# ]# ~* w! o% H  w# j9 M# Y, z3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.! ~, U# f5 N  S) Q

1 |: I' S8 z- o! v* g4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  5 K1 H+ W% b/ ^3 v0 C/ T: {
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  ! ~! e$ _0 Q6 P& ~1 F) ?
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.
* }! Y. w2 z" `; j/ M. n5 w
3 W1 O2 Y! r2 Q5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
$ w/ K3 o( E5 B* M6 m& f7 Mreferenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  7 O0 J/ c, V& b$ E7 A/ p/ K& C4 }

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ 5 G4 Y1 Z3 @% ?
referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
+ F- u) V% X* i8 r' m, z+ ?7 q4 Z* |Bylaw 2000.

' C; x, o6 i7 D10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  - |! c9 u7 C  X+ c) P% ]
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
, i; a( t1 ?# Sfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  6 X# ~( ]* [; x/ k% M* G
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
; U8 G& ]; q) b5 h! Q& E5 h& h. f. t  p5 o! z  f9 Z" G3 u% F
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  6 L/ J6 B" N% |+ _1 t7 x4 g2 W
the course of an election/referendum.& f1 ~4 L8 I! K- b+ R6 ^0 ?# B% R9 a

, Z$ ^$ _+ F; X2 U12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  : m  N) t9 T/ i2 m' c  i
process is in place.4 J3 t4 f; z/ Z- Q/ q' S

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  1 h( H2 d; Z" @; C
of activities and recommendations.' z; q: D1 B# J% H1 `( T' H

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
9 Z1 t6 }" E) e' Vof campaigning.5 E( R& d; o* ~1 P

QUALIFICATIONS:! x6 d, w$ v2 l- F
+ h4 t3 M) S0 v/ e6 ^/ H
1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  7 ^" b/ G, h( X8 R  E) r
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
, l) x+ j; j' q9 i: X  @$ x& ^Union member.
/ ^4 A; {" R& l  S& F4 e. {( d% {4 C" F1 K9 R, U! y# V9 r
2) Must have some experience in student elections.
( W; D$ W; I! X) ]" Z$ @  Z- y9 E
% A* R( r# g6 i+ m/ g( M! M3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  ) D& L3 c. F7 c0 {
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  5 h# m6 D2 {* L/ a. {
with the Students' Union.- h) q6 i. i+ k$ {( I& }

1 F8 b, d) J! O6 c1 n4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.5 D7 h% w2 \7 Y; y

9 W; V$ g0 h3 P, A, V5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
