the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  7 [. A9 n8 N, @7 G: [# c6 j
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  3 T+ ~0 V+ ^5 T- W5 s9 @
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
! A  v3 Q9 K8 a1 v3 V, M* ~Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  % _: o7 ~4 y# |3 d1 W" [$ r
year following their appointment.' }8 i! l- ?: `

6 `% ]  J6 c8 e0 CDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:$ l! m0 _# e% a! n) D1 s7 @

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000/ @% c% Q$ T$ C8 D# ~7 l* S  r
6 Y3 l# x% a9 n& u6 u
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.6 s/ Z$ B! C2 q$ s
  s- T8 n+ j' D4 }" d% O
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
4 A( o& o4 T. R; y9 B$ i
3 A  m0 T! V, V/ F4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
; A7 ]) x" C7 w. F* d: fadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations    X6 q) S  z2 h- \2 Z4 k* q
across campus, and advertising the poll locations./ \, K. ^5 I8 o) }

, o( S2 v$ ]# ]6 X5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
5 ]+ n& C" G! s' ?9 C. n: ureferenda.) u( l; G/ m+ v' {4 n' \( V) f

' h4 H" }! _$ Q$ G/ @5 S6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  : z  }" s$ w8 W$ t$ J9 {! v3 |9 V
parties.+ X+ s3 s! K- n- G

$ y$ O# s$ \7 Y; T! P7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
' |9 u* U4 ?! M! z* _! a) u0 lreferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  + w: k( v( J2 }- O1 q# M
Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  6 n2 H6 ^: X  T( b$ N
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,    E! K, z$ O2 J6 }# ]' d
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
* |- B3 `& l4 A3 {of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.+ Q5 a5 S. f1 x
8 m  _3 g; I; h6 d8 _
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
8 A" Q1 L% a3 Jthe course of an election/referendum.% ^7 \8 Y% _6 A4 T2 N+ j

7 S1 `- s, X+ V12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  5 ~% `* |& x* X2 {" m+ H4 ]
process is in place.
0 e, L" |  G- r+ @! F, C% J6 i# _" B7 t/ h) \4 g1 e- V8 k
13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
/ X" F+ b4 S& Q+ B2 d- E5 s8 Y+ [of activities and recommendations.

- T( S. w! T: U. A( b" m3 u14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  ( w4 X3 [$ K; @! p+ ?2 S/ [2 Q
of campaigning.. M  Z3 n' D3 P% K! Z

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

QUALIFICATIONS:
; y  g: h/ _9 s* A0 z$ G# ~1 R
# c& q$ o) ^0 K8 s0 F7 x; q9 |; F1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  % N& f4 v$ Y/ b- B5 ^
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  ) E* I$ ^5 }& Z0 T
Union member.
, @' `: q! A  K/ o, y9 P# s5 z
0 j1 J9 j; n  C8 t1 O2) Must have some experience in student elections.( e# c% q, p& w8 w

' [& G) g5 I' U/ G. m3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  . D/ g+ m: q: n0 `! x6 H
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  4 T/ l7 @9 u( ?$ \! R
with the Students' Union.
