% @# ?& Q4 f: p6 G) K1 MJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  : k/ W* ^7 g" A
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
& j  U4 y9 X% Q8 p6 |- y2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
, S- u" Q, T+ n/ OCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  ; u; h; A. D% R9 s; J$ J, A5 i
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the

/ g  a3 h3 E* F. y# MDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

/ N8 s) q4 n: C4 C. C1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
! }0 t) z2 N5 b1 j9 Z
5 b: P' B. h! X1 U, f. D8 ?. V+ h2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.
  n/ u2 _; C5 T3 l$ c0 d; _  J' b. \7 [* r: v
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  ( A+ a4 N" o: A) T
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  ; W7 s( r8 i1 t
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.1 c' S4 s$ b, q

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ # c- H- a; h2 e4 C3 ]
referenda.: z7 |1 I/ O- B' Z  D: c. G

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
& \9 y1 D* i2 K3 v# r5 r% t4 j, k# Cparties.7 H/ Z9 q8 \- W

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ . C/ c+ z9 x; J+ e0 a, Y# V& P  e0 z
referendum.

. T- m4 d1 s; a, ^) e. c( q' \ To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  ) f7 q. c( t* v% D
Bylaw 2000.9 u9 E4 n  a3 e6 j: X5 X

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
! w/ ^9 l) R( C3 P& B4 fminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
$ p' ~: w; s# hfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  + g+ J2 n$ v8 _
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

. n, W5 p% U2 k- f: ]11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
- G3 e3 o1 I6 r, I* Q6 h! jthe course of an election/referendum.

; x) w7 W( z3 }2 D  j3 r12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
* Z7 \7 I  n0 {8 R4 k8 }5 l  Mprocess is in place.: H; V. W9 d' ], b

* @& j9 S2 h4 e! b13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
4 o. B8 x5 W2 x( {9 @, b0 K' fof activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  ! ^( F( `" E4 m! f. R( G& B: G5 h
of campaigning.

2 N- g% H" ^" u# B  G15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  0 ^6 y* Z6 M  c9 _

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
1 J. a0 x9 }1 y6 S, F  v% n3 q* Hfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  / o9 ?4 b9 d6 K: A
Union member.4 s; @) n6 |* Y6 L& P

6 x+ ^7 F3 S3 O0 Q2) Must have some experience in student elections.# h" Z, m  u" k

7 X; l4 u2 ^7 ~( r3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
  g2 W: w* ^& K- iany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  - M4 s9 D8 k! P% K6 P
with the Students' Union.

  |3 p7 d* N  X4 I  l9 ^4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

staff, students and the general public.
