, Y# o! P! D1 HEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.9 u% @5 G/ X, y! x9 I# N. V

FUNCTIONS:
( d" P* e9 Q/ p5 V• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.8 M/ j# u- z8 Z/ n. }% d. s
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers." T& F3 D' }8 x v0 E
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.* s( F5 O r/ Z
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 3 m: A! ?) a3 m2 O( i+ }. W

• Adhere to schedules.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
+ |( J& r$ X$ R- f• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.

" Q3 u, F: _ Q: I& Ito be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

) @$ ?1 m4 r% _7 d7 Y- p& I* P2 S' \• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
7 \' R8 @ ~. a1 j! A3 O. u• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
/ e+ Y8 Z5 ?# [1 C9 `2 o [) s• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.

showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
+ Y9 J2 `/ y+ \7 j0 j$ j+ i• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill K6 s l* {; S. e8 H3 z' f8 E
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

. V& r% a8 W# f5 Q" s• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week + g/ b1 Y0 D# |; Y9 y" V! z, Z
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
8 h0 I+ J9 ?% i' g) A- n2 \Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
