Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
1 g& }$ z- H" H5 A7 B& A•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
8 a5 \- _2 m5 P1 ]) B, C3 b$ S•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
+ ^0 c, K( H, y$ k•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
" S$ a6 v2 c) `$ s4 }: k•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

# j' G. y- @, s" {) N% c% b$ H•        Provide excellent customer service.

0 R/ Q, E  ^3 i& ?6 a) UJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
8 t  C. ^' o# A+ M- |•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
0 G  P* T% r$ {: y•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.

showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
: f4 H; R4 F8 V( @; p# \" `  \video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
& L' _1 W* L. H- O0 o•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
) p3 ^+ ?' \5 FVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
5 ]5 c# M$ R! k1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

6 K5 G( ~, E. L" c3 g: FSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
7 e4 x7 e7 v( t' lPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
