Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
# X2 y" ^/ c4 C8 x& w8 C+ W• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes./ }. a# o1 Q8 |8 u$ U8 s
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
: { d* C% V* g+ T• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
; H, u0 ]- z9 X& v: G' V• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather , a! L$ g( Y/ V( f
and traffic conditions. + G# Q8 u. g+ f) s
• Adhere to schedules.! P) N& G. a) N( z
• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

' }8 g7 s/ {, Q3 R/ j+ [" @: y) ?• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.7 i6 J3 `) t6 D9 z7 s: x
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 6 i R; }) ?$ c$ z9 ~4 n
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
# g; E0 g3 A0 R! ?, c3 W• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
# R6 A+ I; q5 Y6 L5 V7 u# @• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training. R0 q( k8 R' F5 J7 O5 [
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ( M/ O7 h+ Y k
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
+ I7 c( D; Z& S, ?; J• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
A. D! m# F4 x H+ Lvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).! d, G' Z. p( P. G8 n5 q0 P0 M( Y
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.: o. y" h$ ^# w- k) ]
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
