& Y3 l' O) g: H7 f- s. h2 G. H  PEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
8 a; C! s( D" V( L3 D0 _•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
4 d* J9 `8 a' ]2 m* m$ L•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
) a. Y" {: N* `3 I, _and traffic conditions.
# {4 Y- B& p/ ~2 s0 M: h•        Adhere to schedules.
' Y" a: H" r$ F; x* L6 o3 z; C3 \•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
# `2 r8 f$ i* d8 t•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
" C7 U$ v3 A9 _9 A•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
8 e/ {! U) u1 u•        Provide excellent customer service.

- W( e+ v# B! W' a, qJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
; C: ?. ^& h! u4 j: @$ h% [$ F•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
7 I7 c$ k! _$ B, ]9 k•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
* i0 R$ l" W; @•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
, r- t$ u5 x; p& o+ Q! bvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
% V: i! u4 E4 o$ ]5 ?. C+ ~2 r•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

9 Q9 E9 G& j! T* XVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
# Y- v) v6 ]0 R; b& [1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
! C0 S: u, `8 p7 d7 h% RThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

" u$ e6 l- k  W4 d+ x* k4 iTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
