in one of the Boardwalk's high rise buildings (Galbraith House) for

differential fee was increased by almost 20% last year. Add to this, 2 ~7 q" Y0 M% C4 k4 x: Q8 ~# e
the fact that the university housing has no more space for newcomers $ E- z& {3 X5 E9 k2 V9 m+ B
and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were , @2 _+ U: p9 W% p$ c- e ]" Q
asked to look for a residence on open market.

& K) Z0 b3 |+ a I! F& G/ aWhile the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has ; J! u3 _3 y. u; }% p& T. d
increased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid / e* D% s8 K9 {# q2 L' I
exactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our
7 A! _' Q) v& V+ k9 ^admission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students 6 P$ [! f- ?: j8 e3 b
=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after 5 P, C+ k- A- F9 b' @+ o+ ^# v
tuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just - b/ R& p3 ]" o. A
imagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am

( F" q/ m% z6 f6 r5 w5 x6 Q! Bus) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was

Alberta has a remarkable record in absorbing various money and grants ' G! G1 J# o& _& Q
from different governmental and non governmental sources and graduate
8 ?; V6 Z- F/ h! O+ vstudents are the main pillars of research work at the university.

is to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and
. k8 P" g/ h, pespecially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take1 m$ a/ S" c2 h
" f" {/ t& Q0 y& q
initiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for
% |: B3 b9 w9 L" z# Rgraduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?4 D- Z9 A8 O4 Q) }" M& w7 t
