While I was paying 340CAD/month for more than a year, I抦 paying

Other costs of leaving have also increased and the university 1 B9 J, i8 }- d9 w- H
increases the tuition fee by few percent every year and international 2 f, s, z4 p& H8 i; \
differential fee was increased by almost 20% last year. Add to this,
3 o# h5 \# M7 m' Ethe fact that the university housing has no more space for newcomers 7 `7 n: ?: E3 b8 ]. I
and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were : @! u& p* m) x' J
asked to look for a residence on open market.

While the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has
0 s( X0 N3 v6 cincreased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid
7 J/ I" ~9 q7 O Texactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our
' a% ?* l; W& Y% K( C5 zadmission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students ' G7 u$ k3 X8 D% O7 \
=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after 4 o. ]! s1 F! ~( z
tuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just v1 Z* f. x; @. @# X/ ~! J) L
imagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am ( V$ T7 n, m& C/ A
getting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of 6 s7 ^) x1 [) c+ w
us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was & }$ k# B# |1 u: U; J5 j, S! l+ _
admitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.! M* P' A x, P" e$ l: p, \& E) P$ |

Also have in mind that Alberta is a rich province and University of

! {/ Z3 q0 `) s0 R6 P* kMy objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention
0 ]& S0 U( Q; ]! vis to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and
, q4 U) o; B6 d, aespecially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take
m& M+ i8 W9 p+ {3 y2 ^1 E 2 `" \$ C8 d& B, P3 N& f9 h
initiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for
, e) p. I5 N7 N; d$ `5 ~graduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?
