Position title: Community Development Worker

Position Summary: Within the broad guidelines of Immigrant Settlement Program (ISP) funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and Alberta Employment, Immigration & Industry, the community development worker coordinates workshops seminars and activities. This individual reports to the ISP program manager and provides support to all members of the ISP team.

- community development, liaison with mainstream agencies to provide services for Chinese community
% c1 T9 {# e# v9 ]- workshops, seminars, activities that give Chinese population access to mainstream services0 z! @; }3 b# f+ C
- fulfill needs that are not met in Chinese community in terms of social services
2 k/ G6 o0 N! G) _8 S- develop good working relationships with mainstream and ethnic agencies
( f0 `: s2 o/ i- {- coordinate good will activities
$ l) h3 _ t) t& b/ [- coordinate and send out quarterly newsletter to members
: }$ S0 u" @* q# y+ I! w. \' q- submit information for community news , J) o2 w2 [. ]* W
- prepare and send AGM information to members8 }* Y! m5 ~. i- ~4 k: F7 s0 u
- assist in special events coordinating: Open House, AGM, Volunteer Appreciation, etc.

- demonstrate team spirit in achieving vision and objectives of Centre
& H# x! c% Q+ R- participate in external committees/conferences/workshops related to immigrant services) z g: }* q; j ]6 Z
- assist in writing proposal for ISP

- explore new ideas for ISP 1 O& b8 R& M: {: u! I: g5 w
- hold regular meetings with ISP team
& [& r5 H+ x* U4 n6 x- assist with Centre’s other activities or programs as prescribed from time to time* A* t7 K' Q1 i! @
- update membership database

Qualifications% n7 U# P* q) R, J- T4 L' [+ z
- degree/diploma in social/human sciences with 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent of experience and education + i4 R- q5 b9 y. X
- good oral and written Chinese and English skills
; m; z" ^- Z' p6 A- T0 G3 k: Y- experience in community work and immigrant services
* B8 {' A7 N. z/ \) r- ?: A" n- ability to coordinate workshops and seminars
