The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will$ y: C4 G$ b7 Z _
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based/ C" U8 \% i, ?0 u- k1 k
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day. L8 U9 T, h! x/ j* r
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
/ Q/ }6 p3 w B2 Q' vstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.0 s, m v: r9 l4 M& d$ I- v
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
3 e# `; R$ Y0 V. T$ y; ~' F0 R# }mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
; X# j9 a6 r8 S2 Aconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the* ?4 d$ P$ J. U' H; O2 D; G
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
8 U' ]* c3 k( o; ~. k" qnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
0 s* a% Z, S0 ^+ @0 ^" Dyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
& ^& H& K( W( rparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
- t* p" K+ I c, }& E6 ddevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and' x7 E/ a! e% v1 x
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and! E6 p5 ?; l& n7 L/ X" \5 u
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
1 O& r& @8 l/ x3 n7 M7 R$ q% }6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
7 R* F# _1 V/ W% M; c6 W) HThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
6 j* M! ]; G* b6 f* G& b7 KYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta./ E+ m6 B. z+ E X% ~
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

* G$ E1 x( u% K& X) zEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)! @+ d" [9 V, c0 C* L9 u
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the. p+ @' z7 F9 x3 J3 d$ `
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are4 R. c7 T9 H# V3 S- o
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
! I' }1 G1 ?5 m; c; T7 |* S• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as& P4 O: [ i& ~: W# ?7 n# U
being realistic to each youth participant6 d6 I# u# f9 }8 {) K
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
4 t( t( W# O4 I* p- \# Iyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to4 q0 M& m4 N+ N1 k$ ?' g
each participant
" Y3 B- i, C" q% v4 j• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
% l6 b$ a, O9 l7 s) ~cover letters and resumes etc.; m3 q0 [5 M- |* z, z* W4 ~
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work% K: E" |9 a! S0 c, }3 m8 c
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the7 t1 z6 p+ ^( r' k/ y
placements) v" Q5 _$ p0 ?
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating* H |& H' f o \# H) j
the process, and supporting the youth where needed7 b7 e- C8 i z/ @* M
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
4 Y7 ^7 r- W) }+ f4 v& F+ t, C6 R6 uis being fulfilled for each youth
7 ~& ~9 N0 C9 n" P3 K- Z* G9 y• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are' o5 A9 \! A c% N" M
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project3 X" p( U2 h3 w. Q
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
- O# w$ R/ T' ZExperience Required: Employment Developer. q1 X" I: P# ]3 ~5 z! ?+ L
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
5 z2 `8 p3 c( g* ]& S+ Q A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
