6 T2 U: K' `/ ^bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based0 M$ W4 I# F) [
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
1 C6 [9 J; n/ E1 _6 ~" Yprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that2 w1 v: n' w. s8 X
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.( q1 F+ V+ I/ F2 S4 h
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
, ?( ~! a. S2 U9 j4 j2 }, ~" [7 I1 ymission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
4 a I+ h, O& `' @3 Rconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the" d/ n1 M/ L' N$ L/ _
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
k% l3 q+ c& R6 a) Vnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
9 G/ H+ @ }; Vyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
1 Z1 r/ n& \8 Eparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
( X6 |6 E/ M* Qdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and6 T, n3 H$ W; `4 X" Z$ U
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
0 M0 i, b, w; t# o$ O) S' I: wwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a8 C4 ]! H# l0 h9 ?
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
8 Y( i- }" W# a# O4 {! s* B2 kThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
$ e1 n$ f+ Q% G; Q7 B8 EYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
6 G* i% |: i" k" J3 w6 J& v" u- y6 zThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of9 w! Y& V# x# r. Q# f

% M" S4 n; q7 R. IEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)3 N2 t1 U2 a Q4 K' n4 F/ ?
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
6 W, A$ w# ]" s/ wcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
5 Q% {' Z' O8 z3 Vwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
) n; x4 a5 D# A: q* X2 z• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as' ?/ E0 Y& x( F+ S$ y& S
being realistic to each youth participant9 E1 B5 J: p. p* x
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
; M, f& |1 W2 Y5 ayouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to: s% {( r7 `1 k# K) G4 H
each participant* ?, ~) X( j) O* T2 P4 S v9 \
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
6 h( N' u$ v1 u3 J8 J" Vcover letters and resumes etc.
0 M7 B( B( y- w$ z! W8 p" F& P5 j. C• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work. I- n" P# K0 o$ P) t6 n, E
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the2 x n# X4 b6 ~9 E4 F+ a2 R
placements
3 o. |) ], G( t$ O O• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating7 V1 P+ i. ?, ]" c" e
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
" b$ p h& H7 `• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
6 `2 o9 \- ?, s/ e- Ois being fulfilled for each youth+ r% l, I8 D8 s, J. K x
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are6 V1 E+ c; a1 O$ u& \4 \* C/ ~' ]
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project/ Q5 m: x' q8 z& L4 Z: ~
• Other tasks as they arise within the position" i( N* V- y- z! a
Experience Required: Employment Developer
) b9 g/ |6 ~* b, E: } _5 g% U Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted% p, [& ?" A s! C: Z8 B
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment; W6 d' J: n! F; o, |) c9 N# H$ Q$ k
 Strong leadership and active listening skills; R& p8 L+ p! a% x
