The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
! Y/ I* p3 C: K6 G* Y4 kbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based' i# `& `& }; I) M8 c
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
& q7 ^: l4 `! W: Vprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
" B2 }% ~2 H# Sstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
( [0 d# r! U4 k. Q6 H( d9 @! g* oYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
' E; S2 ?5 ~3 Y1 N( pmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
+ g$ j2 h V# l$ p" J$ [conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
: L3 O5 {- q- ?- eVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills# ^, Q" ~9 }6 t7 T
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve! T b: I# E; [4 Z
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose; N9 [' _ K! z% J J. p7 h
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment7 x$ [% P1 C0 e- ]1 b
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and$ v4 M+ W2 C/ K; c# H
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and1 ]% X0 x$ a0 W; i5 K! z1 h
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a/ d r6 u% Y) F6 u$ R
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed." f" d- Q$ ` Z% Y
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
! x# A% a( l; v3 ?YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
, H1 l, G" E- f8 W- dThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

7 ?0 T9 W' H, e( `# I5 d0 VEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)4 E$ l& Y6 G" ]8 x
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the6 c @* t7 r7 q& g3 {
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are) @7 |9 v+ S) C! }; Z9 [
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities1 U7 c& O, j0 o
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as9 U4 A) B. q T1 C0 Z) R/ T
being realistic to each youth participant
; I- M0 f- R# a: \. Y4 X• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
: Z3 }% a+ e# n4 v, jyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
) g3 Y* H, w% beach participant7 m4 v6 R5 [1 B3 x
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of5 v7 _9 D7 I: D3 V$ u. ^
cover letters and resumes etc.+ r, c) V" V1 q( Y% B/ b
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
6 G; o0 T/ O" R# G8 P" F1 xexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
% y9 R' z) h8 R9 y$ G/ I# o Pplacements
. `* U- F9 \3 p• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
6 q1 o1 {; ]; \the process, and supporting the youth where needed6 w0 q0 w% k1 F0 s8 X7 A5 H/ ]. J
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
: Z8 A( f0 g7 z& W7 a" ]is being fulfilled for each youth/ ?$ }9 L# a+ |* b& G
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are. J2 c3 O ~( v0 m# r. h: i
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
. C* B' v: B8 q8 }1 V2 | A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
