The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
/ G! b Y: j+ T8 ~0 pbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based$ T8 t2 }( x/ K9 o3 |9 a7 N
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day# W" T C: x, S3 E5 t% i
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
: w* ^& X3 V& _& @& W2 Estands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
% _( ~0 ~: W+ N xYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
8 u& d3 e) I. m/ fmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
p m6 U8 i2 f; f8 ^' I+ Y/ kconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
6 Q) Q8 b, j1 T( i( h0 BVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills* E+ V9 i) J! a/ N. V
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve% t5 \' b: @0 ?$ P" \( Z
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
2 s+ B* s' O, c9 V5 G* m+ Uparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
& H+ w; h$ s4 Q! ~7 Cdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and) h2 h6 G" i3 ^, l
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
7 F" R) o( N' l: P/ Z- Cwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a2 r1 k: \+ ~, K# [' K
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.$ S( e% p+ D) w4 p2 G2 Q
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central! [ t5 t4 `6 X( ?2 ]7 J4 E
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
( N! n; t9 W8 TThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
1 U! {1 Y# z' {' Y* N# m& \- Jextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

* N$ U! ]' P: _: _* vEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)7 N* o0 b$ m$ d4 J" `
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
5 i6 A0 p+ ?+ N' a; _- O; b; ncommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
6 b3 P0 A5 D! |willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
4 O( L; f% Y) S( D5 ?7 R- H# {! V• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
/ {( Q0 V7 D) Q% c9 G- Xbeing realistic to each youth participant6 _) a2 n; ^ |
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the" O% e/ }4 ]# U' P* ]
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to- y' e% u0 L2 z. I
each participant% E% c- D" F5 v% G$ M2 G
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
6 V9 E3 R* X5 W5 @5 c e7 lcover letters and resumes etc.
& b" N' Z6 b; j2 c3 _• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work$ t# |& Q* z' K, j$ X( X
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
7 v: o0 }4 [. D" {5 K0 G2 Pplacements0 k: s! R/ J, L/ u/ p
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating1 i$ H) S# Y& t
the process, and supporting the youth where needed$ M G8 y" I. _4 G
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
: ]8 _) Z! I2 x8 B+ Q9 U6 P, Iis being fulfilled for each youth4 q0 J8 }6 I9 {
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are/ C y& [3 A# ]
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project( ?8 h7 B8 K- A' c4 h8 C; G h
• Other tasks as they arise within the position! ~9 i/ z+ D: d2 L$ U% g! C1 a
Experience Required: Employment Developer
( h& q! h5 R+ J, t. {: a Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
3 \. w3 d7 A |8 z+ H2 j A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.# i7 e# U( b7 u, v/ `; T7 U. ]' a

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
