The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
2 g! j: D3 |) h• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
( X7 h) _8 h: u( C• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
/ }" H/ m7 d# E+ O  i% h• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.
% F. H# z/ R! M& J. e( A3 G
& q+ |( W3 `6 a9 j) a. C2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
! z3 l% B; z* d- e- u+ c2 T) j• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

& \5 m% }: I$ K, O3. Tracking System
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

# `. v$ _7 {4 N; KCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
