6 U( R1 f* O) O# \The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

8 F- M" B- t. m: j/ M9 i1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
8 o% ?( t/ g3 b% k• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
( E& W. P3 f$ |/ c+ g4 w) b6 M• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
9 o" U3 i) i% z• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

8 V: E% f/ s6 |9 S' ?2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
! g) A8 V! F% A• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

+ `( D$ C1 J( ~! E8 FCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
