As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

- e2 k; u9 h$ P& A. f* vReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:7 q- {! B5 g- f3 E
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
* t( w5 n% V  q9 C0 @$ D•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
$ H( {4 y* r# R- @6 y  n•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module, z& x% `- @3 ]3 ]2 x
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's3 C2 ~5 I# ^" ~' q/ ^
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers & z6 ]" T  F- Q- q
Job Requirements:  0 Q5 K. L' o% q  h+ b2 Q
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline9 S( Z% w0 p" p5 j/ |
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
$ R, i1 j7 w! F, @7 p& q•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
/ E( k1 j7 A3 |$ |3 W) {1 ]•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
+ U0 x. X8 Y8 Z% D! A. ^•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
4 {$ M+ q9 I: K, B+ u% k0 \9 ]7 t•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
( E) q( x( _3 ]+ G/ F/ N•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
+ R4 O, }9 ^" z3 J* J8 ^9 A6 U•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills2 J. M  L5 P1 Z4 K7 }
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. 0 z1 o9 d) I& U5 l
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
