As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

B0 j* p8 IReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
8 s* M: Q+ E8 Q' B: F. K$ x•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment" ]5 a) }* l1 O* K( T
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
4 Z( R  ~' C1 \! P% e$ C•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module; N! d$ K$ b+ s& \4 Z# v
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
' C$ Z% z: |  D4 M" H•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers # y- y& n! O7 e  v, c9 S5 r& O
Job Requirements:  & R: g$ w, {" E% x0 l2 m+ J
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline) F7 W% s" T8 X- K/ u' I
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset/ }! Z9 T# Q  \6 }9 e. f# z
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
) `! h- d: F! e% ~4 M5 r  i& s•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems& ?! c6 q% O4 \% M8 d6 s; i' U
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
. E  a/ \) C3 P9 K; K8 {& m•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies6 Z: M8 g* v: J$ j1 O  R$ b4 j
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST8 v8 C& c0 T9 h3 A' u& j' v" B1 }
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
# c' x/ w* K$ e/ A2 XHours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
