Duties

6 \' @, _* _* e: h * Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis
& {3 D9 p! W1 O4 i * Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography* T2 G% v/ B/ }# f# |8 K
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
0 M# ~' \" @: L% h9 I" [' _ * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client
3 {# P3 Z8 j9 J# h, L4 n; A- p& g * Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry. P! H8 j7 M( G/ l
* Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals0 E( g. [" X; v2 Q
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab# A+ B. l9 x' p+ S4 b* T" C D
* Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices5 J5 t) C7 K* ~5 }) Q0 x
* Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)

2 [3 c; e% b. p( M' F * Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred( F( Z* I& A& t' z) H5 {
* 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)- P+ w8 x$ W0 f2 Z" q5 w( N& ^
* Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel
! c/ g5 ^' y3 F+ m; S8 s * A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures( g: I7 U% ?0 t
* Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment3 ^# [1 ]& o( }# z
