Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
6 P. [8 m" j2 H! w' W; Y    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
9 ^+ M$ G& G. q. M: J8 D    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators6 x9 x5 _& i# B
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
- c( ?' g% S, r& S* _2 G# n0 _. \    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
! S% l' f, }; {. m9 S; t( v6 {    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
& i( w4 L! w) G, g6 ?    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth& A6 o$ R5 A0 E  C! h- r* o. d
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program& D, J& O4 t+ \- o8 R0 i
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment- g! d# {4 I% }0 z# B  b
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports" w9 V) ^9 h8 }- E' a! d4 v
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs- v: n1 Y8 g, R+ U( a
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly* C  {8 d9 K' b  w' f
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
$ v; i, k( l3 l/ S5 N. B1 W3 e    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

4 y# x+ u' t! I% @) W! ~    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
+ p- d7 o2 @% ~6 m/ f* Q    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
4 k9 Z- i5 G" s" L$ ]    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies0 a' Q" B3 _7 `: ~+ ^7 z
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
  i; L/ z6 ?2 d- M    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community+ {5 @8 y5 H% _; P4 u9 r
    * Fundraising skills an asset8 M% G7 P" j4 c* N8 v
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills

3 _% O! `! x6 t6 J+ _( r' l/ s    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills  g  G+ v4 G9 l6 F/ c
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills( e" Z; d$ ?1 r# c) s
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset% V1 i+ l! ~4 `1 I* z
