 What to do if you are in a car accident

Step1. If possible, stop your car in a safe and visible place. If a car # \% g( U5 r; M/ w Z% U$ S$ K
cannot be moved, turn on the hazard lights. Turn off the
$ [8 P/ G# H2 B$ e& U ignition. Be careful when exiting your car.

Step2. Determine if anyone is injured. Do not move an injured person.! p0 c# Y4 i2 v; e; L" }

driver does not own the car, get the name of the car’s owner. 0 M2 H$ d9 g5 t% q; [5 V, L3 s
Write down names and addresses of other passengers or ; g3 q0 X r( R' x( S
witnesses. If you have a camera take pictures of the accident 9 N' x. `) ]- ?; f, H
scene.

Step5. The police officer will give you a copy of the collision report.3 L, p6 D* d* ^

Step6. Cooperate with the police, but do not admit guilt for the
' `* E3 H$ y1 D* l2 ]. z, ~6 T accident in any way. You may be required to show proof of
/ h% F: N/ s- q. T( E7 B1 T insurance, but do not reveal how much coverage you have.4 Y6 N4 t3 Z4 d; w0 q+ }

Step7. Do not accept any money the other driver may offer. By

against the other driver, even if the damages turn out to be

3 i- `8 e7 x, U- p; EStep8. Do not agree to forget about a minor accident. You may see

Step9. Write an account of what happened: time of day, weather, 8 M( R8 |$ \1 _& y C$ h0 O
hazards, road conditions and driving speed. Draw a picture of
8 x0 {! n. _% s5 ^ y ?3 Q* R the site, showing stop signs, signal lights, etc. Try to measure ( K6 F# f* P- g0 e$ E6 P
skid marks and determine the point of impact. Note any damage

pictures of the accident.

Step10. Report the accident to your insurance agent or insurance
