Edmonton — Homicide detectives are investigating after a woman was found dead in a west-end apartment yesterday morning.% K! S5 \" e4 k8 x( [' g# E, ^

Ambulance personnel were called to the building at 9023 184 St. at around 4:20 a.m., found the body of a 50-year-old woman inside one of the suites, and called police.

Investigators have not released the cause of death, but are calling the death suspicious.

m( Q: x7 H: O+ ~Police say the address is known to west division officers, who have responded to the suite several times in the past for family-related disturbances.

Yellow police tape surrounded the entrance to the eight-unit, three-storey tall building as tight-lipped EPS officers walked in and out of the home throughout the day.

A twisted samurai-style sword lay on the ground a few steps from the entrance, the only sign of anything amiss in the quiet complex./ \6 I0 g1 Q6 m6 U

Though neighbours say they did not hear anything yesterday morning, some say the neighbourhood is less safe than it used to be.

8 ~" B* j7 {" t9 F“My granddaughter is 20 and is scared to go out,” Joan Harvey said while visiting her relative yesterday afternoon. “I’m scared for her.”# ]5 W a, v) d' R) v M% A: c% E

Ciara Harvey said she wants to move away from the neighbourhood, just blocks away from West Edmonton Mall.

If the death is ruled a homicide, it will be the 29th this year, ahead of 27 this time last year.
