Figures from the quarterly fiscal update show a six percent drop sucking away $50 million dollars from initial budget projections.

Angeline Webb, a Cancer Control Analyst for the Canadian Cancer Society, says "it appears that the Tobacco Reduction Act is having the desired effect."

Meanwhile the final phase of the Act goes into effect on January 1st.

# ?6 T! z' v9 ^+ g& s8 H) hBut the Campaign for a Smoke-Free Alberta is still calling for a two-dollar per pack tax increase to make smoking even less affordable.

It points to a recent Health Canada survey which found 20 per cent of Alberta teens smoke, compared with 15 per cent across Canada.
