There are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009. ; _) F) W3 H _- y% c

Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

" z: u. i+ I V$ Y6 w# N$ i 1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.
9 P( ^5 j; B. J" q5 Q 2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.
* ~7 n) B3 B4 F2 M( x) t- r4 L, i 3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.
4 w6 g* q0 M5 q' R. M 4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.2 ], T0 b$ d: c+ B
