Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
, |7 x( X% G$ \1 lMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
B5 g5 O6 i1 }! p% ~6 {' z) J(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about4 _( _# Q) s1 E2 U4 S& }
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste0 [: L2 | x5 H: ~0 u) P% i
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
, _! i2 G u7 A4 L7 P9 F& C4 T+ w1 ^! tvermin-composting and residential recycling.
\3 Q2 x) }; v& y9 V- U8 R4 Z% {; {* b6 Z* v
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
0 p! r1 i5 A3 Ito various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates) x1 F8 \+ B) d) P4 {
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
Y7 N* A4 `) [( Oreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
' r6 \! C; f1 ]: x+ w. t# _resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the: x9 } p% Q3 `* A( o% k
importance of composting and recycling./ S5 n/ S( q5 P# u
1 a" j* t0 X: D; t$ TExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
$ f% L4 d( w+ |" q, pReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
0 n; S/ B4 J% \- q( O) F* J1 C n1 Gpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
, L3 I- l( ?- wmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
* G3 Q2 Y/ T Z3 z5 R" z) Evarious demonstration gardens and general public and school: h4 T% y0 d% @/ W
presentations.5 s; F8 h' s( W7 c4 t5 \& R0 v% G
$ H; i0 r/ e ~% vThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
1 b* Z, I0 @& I, u) k0 N N+ `# rvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the ~) V* q$ ~6 x2 v; ~
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your+ Y2 _2 D# g5 R- Y1 ]* m) h* ~5 }
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
