Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
. O5 Z. a$ q" S; C1 {Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
4 ] _2 @8 J! K6 a+ @9 _(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
- O; w+ l$ \) ?5 |9 eenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste; a& v% t1 q: H* m5 v; F
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;, a" c* r) l4 h
vermin-composting and residential recycling.! g! ]. W5 i+ @
- S2 y: O: k+ |7 m3 n+ }. j
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
( \( O' m) f- i; R3 k- I1 @to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
% O; }7 f* W% l' Zcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
( \/ _: \& a1 p7 x. |8 \# K" Zreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important6 K5 Q P! Q ^! L0 ?9 O% ]4 V
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the: V; ]0 L9 A0 A, R
importance of composting and recycling.& ^# x, r* e, R8 B

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the0 F, i5 e, n( `. b
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
& u0 N; o7 v) ?; J" ~public education display booths; assisting with programs and$ U& C% Q& _4 O4 f% ]
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
9 w* r$ L Y: B9 M# Q9 f. t, `various demonstration gardens and general public and school
' Z [* M+ e) j" }presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and1 V9 S" J7 ]. L$ `7 P$ u
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
f5 N/ r, h( A& bmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
( o# I: F: y/ \+ uknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master6 {% O" w# K" h. ?
