Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

P3 ^" T7 r. R- i: bDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the, a- [- M+ \/ E
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
. B, |1 ?. r5 Z$ |2 C7 T(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
6 J7 T, N: b/ Denvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste5 x! m) A9 l5 [# ~
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;- H% G) p- o: |6 t0 J6 m/ v
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
0 |# M" t! |; [9 {& F5 V+ }- p. T+ |# d, E0 b
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips6 i/ y3 U# n- \! K9 @
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates# o5 l! x. @1 R+ ]2 a
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:; r6 N1 Q% w" T% m X
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
# J2 o& X8 o2 K2 E# j3 R8 D7 kresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
! I0 u" c( c! \3 ~, nimportance of composting and recycling.& o& I2 d7 G3 s4 |( b; p6 ^1 `
7 A/ k; w& j8 i ~- K" o/ \- q% QExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the: J' m7 ?) s; `; O: T
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;: {& x# ]. Y- X( l
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
+ \; i/ }# j, h9 \4 g( pmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
) ]+ }* Y7 v2 \; Y3 Q0 m) b( j% Wvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school

5 f5 N* X- y! F% u5 ~9 `There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and4 i8 O9 G. [: r" v
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
/ V# y h- U4 `# Vmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your; H1 g% r* X8 O' V/ r! _
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
