Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
2 s: `- z9 {: L& ^8 TMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
: i- V- v) y2 n* A. A(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about% \* o4 S4 {! [$ Y
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste8 L$ E7 L, c! f$ x, m, z; i u' Q
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;, m; o6 b2 d$ E* |3 R
vermin-composting and residential recycling.$ a a+ M4 s+ u* e9 e) J
1 H" ~8 Q- f( ^1 [! O: C2 QThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
3 a7 _/ Q, X; w7 H& u, s% Pto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
$ `9 s* Q- I3 G4 ^4 j& U$ hcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
: k& I8 \% z1 S' h/ b9 T! f( Nreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
3 ~ Q, U" O. ^$ t) f$ \resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
/ ^& ~8 m4 A2 L2 Limportance of composting and recycling.

# [1 M- `/ J2 W$ L: DExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
# n# r$ W- h- Q XReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;. Q8 o' e$ Y/ d) F4 q: A$ M
public education display booths; assisting with programs and! M. t+ D- x: W
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at1 h3 Q$ ^) P9 m+ E, ]
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

' M) t# u* n& S+ u3 SThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
+ p7 Y8 f! T8 N; ?% D3 ]! l- qvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
}4 w( n7 d! P5 U2 Pmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
