A baby food recall is underway as a popular Heinz baby cereal may contain elevated levels of a mycotoxin.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Heinz Canada are warning parents about ‘Heinz Mixed Cereal, Stage 2, From 6 Months’. The best before date codes located on the top left hand corner of the package are ‘BB/MA 10 DE 26’ and ‘BB/MA 10 DE 29’./ P# O# C# c8 U1 h, `+ E' u/ b
No illnesses have been reported from consuming the cereal. Heinz Canada says that the cereal may contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA). / C6 z2 w& v) _2 ]0 W% q/ t
1 V: b& u1 {3 I4 I# ?$ `* ]In a news release, CFIA says Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and has been classified by as a possible human carcinogen.' |% k4 V+ j! ~2 |5 o- n, W( J% |0 f0 E
4 e$ F1 s1 ^! s4 PCFIA says that if a child has consumed the food, there is no need to seek medical attention since the substance is not harmful when eaten as part of a healthy diet over the short term.
