A baby food recall is underway as a popular Heinz baby cereal may contain elevated levels of a mycotoxin.

$ k4 z: W1 K6 ^- Q5 TThe Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Heinz Canada are warning parents about ‘Heinz Mixed Cereal, Stage 2, From 6 Months’. The best before date codes located on the top left hand corner of the package are ‘BB/MA 10 DE 26’ and ‘BB/MA 10 DE 29’.
7 ]' G- n& s4 p: f% @- DNo illnesses have been reported from consuming the cereal. Heinz Canada says that the cereal may contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA). / B9 M/ m1 f; Z! ^# F

In a news release, CFIA says Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and has been classified by as a possible human carcinogen.1 d* R5 o' T4 a9 f0 ~" ?: I: A9 Y' p. q

CFIA says that if a child has consumed the food, there is no need to seek medical attention since the substance is not harmful when eaten as part of a healthy diet over the short term.3 `5 X2 |) s2 ~* Y: v
