0 S  G2 x; {  a  m( [The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
" v' t4 @& z4 h: t- B0 t# X5 N' l, i) athinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
' a6 H) g; ^7 n" y' @this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
. ]8 I, j( R/ T# h- ~* D. C# C# QEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and & }8 S0 \& L% j7 I, ^
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
, T2 G, w: }  kEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 7 a1 ?% R  g/ l1 O* f- E+ V# z
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities
# A3 T2 J$ V! L+ |/ n( J * k1 U& g$ k7 }2 U# @( ~) a$ z
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
6 J( |3 r( G: D; w6 R- C6 xexecution of the YWCA Strategy 3 i0 k" _; g# l; E- @$ f0 i! o' I. r2 \) ~
7 S# V; g# f# M: f& `
Specific responsibilities include:  
  r6 H" p5 M! @4 N
! S1 c! f* W( R5 `•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
& h3 w& ^6 A8 Q' w( q4 y# e1 u% v- [0 l1 Pthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by * g9 O, |& {! o* g7 B1 U$ U' |
the Board of Directors;  
+ r6 k* k- m+ I•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations - ]& l/ n  P- o% a$ E# a
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 5 e" }  ~: Q/ ?1 X" l5 M
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; " j# }7 C; U2 F, b& y, A; i4 i
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ) x2 c, D% G" {7 q6 J' O# Q
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ; x( R4 u$ n! b% t0 A
the board;  
0 `5 P3 V( o* s. J. u•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  & N/ N) R! U# q2 O; t
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion & v9 n; {, H" V0 p7 R$ x
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
5 B- S1 ~" H( d0 H2 C, x9 \& K( T- L•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
: |8 t  C- _! _( @( dchanging needs of the organization and community; : }. P+ o$ S/ j2 r8 B& v: w0 D
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 5 C9 D& D) A1 f; {: l+ t
commitments;
1 ~' H+ v5 u2 |+ B! w" G+ `•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
' W3 }0 r! t* q4 H9 c$ U% S: `•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
" x3 o2 Y* J4 ?" u, F! Gselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  0 _. I' f7 t4 R' \4 L* ]
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ) P- Z) i* O) d
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
% b, O9 w8 k3 ieffectively and positively represent the association; 2 _# F% B& I7 h
9 D3 X0 e1 ~4 {# ^0 d
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
( m7 x: @7 m5 Vthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
' x' E& g7 D: S: `, e9 f•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal & s/ j% U/ p# a+ v
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ) f! a) i* ^1 b8 I7 _
the forthcoming year;  + s: e7 x" D9 k/ Z! d* k% t( _8 U- o
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 5 r# I0 `% F5 S  k( ^$ l
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
# O& R  @/ y: V" k9 a& eYWCA Canada; and
6 M+ i" ?% C" Q5 A•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task . y* Q) t, v! }
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities ' O/ E- }1 ~' {, M/ ~1 i
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 1 h2 R" |  B9 e
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
; L# m) }2 O2 A/ W0 H( Maround decisions, plans and actions;
( a* D& A# _' u9 F$ U6 t0 _( ]8 |•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
( r5 {# V% h, y1 C. f/ [) W•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
# L, g# p3 |$ p/ `and achievable with realistic timeframes;
6 q8 o1 I' E3 y+ ]+ ?•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ! V0 [0 a: @+ X6 N& P6 S4 N8 z2 t$ }

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 6 J8 k9 r( r* ]1 |3 l0 M; e
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 9 s; h, {! Y, C2 v
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and $ F" F. U' q; R# }1 _. t/ @
•  Superior negotiation skills. # Q7 {3 ^- o: Z% _2 G! c

' f+ q5 Y5 G6 W! m* x•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 9 d8 x8 f1 l6 V' \
( m6 f$ O3 _% W, p& W6 Q
Required Experience
; G* v0 V' ~2 o% e+ ?•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 5 o, m4 m1 y& K! p
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
7 J" b1 @- r2 t% n3 oabilities;
) ^7 k8 W, b, t7 z. F" V. ]•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
, l9 M7 G# u" }) K2 M6 E( _Networking and Fundraising;
- n( ~( Q8 A# S. q$ ]1 w1 L•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting - C: M2 F  d+ K8 z8 k' ?
and financial statements; and ( ?% d7 c; \7 n* r$ k. p3 w/ y+ w
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
/ G5 o# ?) F1 B6 ucentered perspective. 4 _2 V  v' E* H( W$ @9 T
