The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ' K7 E7 ^  g! l3 H* k2 V7 Z
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead . @4 O# I* p0 X2 v$ G4 e/ _
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
$ P2 Y% R1 L1 R; C( y; K1 oEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
4 {+ ^. B( [; q: S2 i8 f- dsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ! h: t# O" k& s- C- t+ |2 I
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
1 ^5 @; w9 Q" x; R" J/ Fexecution of the YWCA Strategy , s! }- q' i$ B; P4 b# _
: g. f) G" K, E: L- Y$ i
Specific responsibilities include:  
( m# U! K" A% b# C2 e - o! b5 V: y) y. ~4 ~
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
- m- N/ E( U. M0 L+ ythe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
: [% r2 o$ k. nthe Board of Directors;  
5 j, m9 L. o, Q5 M- p•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 9 l6 X7 ]% @# e! L- L
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to , R& @& Z. A; }0 O9 t6 p% p
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
5 T3 m8 X, [) h& r•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 4 N7 U8 u, u2 m7 P. H
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by & G; G  g# f$ M. P
the board;  - ~' n  @# l* Q6 u- l
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
& r* u8 @- K5 L7 Z( I) }. a•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
) x5 A1 V# v1 @+ ^( Athe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; * a4 n& D5 a  P) k1 G5 _; g
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the , F& O, G# T& ]4 D; g7 M1 O
changing needs of the organization and community; 6 a0 f7 H! e, E# w1 h2 V6 u5 r1 j
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue $ D+ X1 P$ @: T9 B3 j" {; D' ?  }
commitments; 4 D7 p2 h" T6 h2 k2 p6 i- t; I2 g( d
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
- u2 P$ s) W; Q2 C1 z) l•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
6 E/ q9 B" i' N5 `. l+ ~selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
( p* u# `% H  X  Z% Z•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ' ^6 {- W  d+ q/ [
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to . J  }7 Z1 C$ P( i, `7 a
effectively and positively represent the association;
5 I$ f8 |# x  I0 R: G" ?" F) F0 _
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring # ~8 o2 D6 d( E( u3 j
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ; y" `% u8 y" D0 I: L3 O% s2 c
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
1 p  R. \, [5 M4 Y* \$ H8 M4 Uperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
/ d2 L; V! @+ x4 s* B+ Sthe forthcoming year;  3 ?2 }3 P+ m+ X% f) ~
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical % z8 J& @8 K0 r8 x. B
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
+ i, m8 y' {( y  E6 g( DYWCA Canada; and
$ m% X7 v: `+ Q•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task # H* I! }' B6 m0 \
Forces.  ) Y5 l) s, w2 k" N

' Q& K/ t" y' q& s•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 7 [+ r; ^9 W) P6 @$ Y, X# \
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 3 f! w6 B# m; [
around decisions, plans and actions; % ~& N0 E1 n) z, a" F
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
, U* ?% y/ ~: [0 V+ M  g0 j5 n•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
, u9 l7 L! h3 C- Oand achievable with realistic timeframes;
- o: X- D/ ]8 E" b- d•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 1 ]3 h# }8 O+ o3 b6 Q: z" l* C" `

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
" f# }$ B& Z) e: Frapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

* \% h/ @2 J* n: G! |•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
0 f- E) X* e; b  N; I  \; q" ]  O6 t, ?9 t
0 }+ M$ e& V* \, pRequired Experience 5 c. |/ Q' g1 X- x* {: Q
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
( z& q% e+ i- e6 T7 P•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
: O( P! `0 t* L* u* aabilities; + z6 Y3 U5 W& M+ P- m& g- X- i0 o
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
$ @3 C  w' Z. d" L+ d; T, fNetworking and Fundraising; , U# ^0 \4 L9 t% |) c6 f
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting % a. k- g3 {3 C0 B: ]( q7 K
and financial statements; and - z" y4 b" q) f! ^% R% R  U% r7 \
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
8 A. \3 h1 _$ U+ wcentered perspective.
