• Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN)- L# N3 ?2 x" d5 ]" u) b3 J8 g
• Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), and

Beginning in 1995, ETIP:0 {$ {9 I% y; g( c
• supports foreign-educated engineer and engineering technologists, and: g, u# S7 z" ]4 u0 t* N# A3 V+ H

Alberta is home to many foreign-educated immigrant engineers. These
" q' r" t& P/ b! ]9 b9 Mimmigrants are highly educated and experienced, yet many may find it2 ]" O: `8 n, {
difficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not
! E) ~; N7 ~( ]% l8 s! R7 {/ y1 erecognize their international experience or credentials.
% L) w" J9 \5 ?2 v3 Z9 w9 Y' v4 PWhat is the practice?
, \( q+ u; w/ A5 b& v- w( {Integrated training offers a blend of occupation-related skills, a work, Q0 f0 _+ B* z. H7 C/ n
experience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or
$ n8 n! ^- O9 U3 IEnglish as a Second Language.

The training components of ETIP assist participants in developing skills) w) H* I9 o0 j2 P1 m, r. k
required for the Alberta workplace. Training includes:

" D4 ~8 K0 a( |1 b! s; Y3 z3 K• engineering-related training delivered at NAIT:

• job search and job management skills7 x* C1 K, p' l2 H
• first-aid training, and# v4 k4 [3 A0 t w# M

Upon successful completion of ETIP, graduates are Technologist-in-Training

immigrants and the shortage of engineering technologists in the

• EMCN recruits for ETIP and has a strong relationship with the

• NAIT delivers engineering technologist education applicable to the

• ASET provides professional recognition of the qualifications of ETIP

- r5 v+ l8 N( F4 N% iAs of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have
5 N9 u% B3 Z/ l' l3 y0 ^. Rfound engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.4 a' g s# d: c0 `
In 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of
6 t/ _4 B5 h* C- e' ?+ o& Fgraduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,
, x X9 k+ I( s, l+ ~( twith over 90% employed at three months post-graduation.+ H# z+ |( N8 e
