Roles and Functions
+ D, [' t: Z, |9 S/ x+ w. N @; I# LThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the2 z% P5 U& E4 T T a8 N: P
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
3 {' @" ]$ i0 M, }+ |! Y' p6 ~operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
5 I. b, v E8 a, B$ ]the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,* d4 h% Q! W2 M* }* z4 t$ e
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular; ?5 e- n8 t. T3 q" i# l
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is, h0 M! H) {6 f% j$ B
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
; ?$ `- l4 N. w3 s: W d [" u3 Nemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
. f3 F. B# k* f3 o/ Kstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend. N+ d v6 B9 \% x. D4 c t: h
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.) J2 C+ k9 Q4 v- b; S3 U
' O4 N9 U5 D; c+ L* {8 n5 ^Functions and responsibilities:
! `" Y, D9 L t! _The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
k* o1 j8 K( }) u1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
3 t$ T" o6 S- E- _officers of the Coalition" g# T3 W! i$ M: q3 u
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural. n- x. f4 ~ X {) t, ~
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
+ s* h. r6 r {% k4 Oand public institutions
% K% o1 y7 Q1 |$ z0 @3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
9 S" Q, ~3 S# ]funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives, q0 i/ v+ b% v+ p
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
6 u+ s" d" d$ M8 A2 J8 Q. v) iorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with; D- `. i k+ y; }; t- M+ c

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

- z l) R0 m2 g _/ uAdministrative responsibilities:
1 C1 a5 @7 y. A, ]7 `: q1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its( e* q0 F2 h1 @) z( |: [
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of m( z% @. }) n, i
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the6 |4 j4 ]) l# J& M Y2 v$ z
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
1 z' w& Q7 o7 k8 M2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
7 U' T# @: ^2 F$ F+ S9 q- i1 ?1 jMulticultural Coalition
/ x* g) q# J; T. X0 hRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board; m4 \" r$ \1 z/ K# B; g) z/ T7 u
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
; k" c% I6 B; Zimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
9 f/ {# Z+ ?& |3 o7 ?operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.- h _/ _( k& l6 }9 M
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
! Z9 H# g- R/ E8 i! aaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
" `- H& v% x; ]3 @' ^ [be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership. V) [& x( a& Q i2 J
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 Q, V" M! e2 ~0 ~
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
& \% |; T( f7 w3 u# |directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
: H a1 L9 D3 k3 vstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
3 q- ?2 l( @0 n/ c5 o9 omatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
4 b) y5 i1 D& S: D9 P0 ?. h! kdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of4 C0 }% f7 s4 D- n! o
policies already adopted

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
