The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition z+ Y- J- O8 `- S3 Y
Roles and Functions: _2 A# y/ }; s' f
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the* I" ^" y6 R$ J$ W2 q1 T6 g
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
2 g5 W4 f. [& m& k9 E* W+ z- Hoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has# N* M1 K( ~& s& R* ]$ f
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
; \- q' u) m; j" D, R$ loperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular4 D4 H6 d& _2 @1 Y- d3 O- q
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is# D; p4 O' n6 v4 T$ Z% M
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an* W' |1 G# W* h1 k
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
* \. s# P, y- i$ c/ [; rstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend5 Q) j) W! _" Q0 E- l
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
, Z: z/ T0 L. _: n1 u- XThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:, I; `4 m- ?( e6 [7 X) b
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
2 ?& ]& f2 o. Y* ^$ porganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations5 v! c- q( K* c' [6 `
and public institutions
' e0 {# u" K: i3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through( c. V, g# p$ l2 r1 R, h3 f
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
) G" D1 c# a* l. q) V- j8 j4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community5 V9 ?1 O4 u9 X2 _
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with( a( F B0 J$ r0 _1 W3 q" r

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
$ q, k' `7 q4 E6 H& ldiverse backgrounds6 d# j m, r5 w( k6 v
+ B2 [" z& I0 GAdministrative responsibilities:8 X& L' u. j/ @+ H5 O! ]
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
" ^6 g( n: n% R% `& Tregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
; S$ L+ K. R+ n& ^8 _6 J' ~directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
) I$ E3 Y4 F. ^members of the Coalition’s financial condition.9 T6 A3 H4 V4 r/ W0 t7 ~& W# j% Q
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board' ^% P2 L9 A/ m) o
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to% W* a% \9 p z8 O
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
; P \- f4 j( s! Loperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
X) f( p7 W3 V; kThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
2 _/ d8 g' \# t# r% v. U! Vaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should$ |1 Q' _7 s, Y' C; g
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
& q W. g7 A, B' x; B2 vparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and" z7 n) H# k: J3 v* G" G
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
; ]6 C8 u* D$ K; ]4 C, Zdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
$ v4 v9 m# q9 b8 l, l% K. bstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
) P/ K @7 |2 v! b9 Dmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
# \! c5 y' G; qdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of5 B1 |& B! R) R% \* m3 R
policies already adopted

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

Pay Range & Terms
! f& ]- Q# F. `( h0 K6 LThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with- x1 q1 }0 k& @4 S: x+ t
possible extension depending on funding.
