that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
! Z. t+ ?( |% p# S m( O+ H% K; W9 ian increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
3 e! y8 ^# k4 B+ N0 yinnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops+ U0 T1 R2 E' k" H
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look! c1 o5 H/ ^) V; a! v4 {- J
carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
* w# _4 W1 D5 X: K8 X. _guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
; V) J5 q# \$ u8 dinvestment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
2 q6 A! ^1 i0 o" R2 o2 m6 }/ vmarket forces to prevail. 4 a: ]& `2 h- M" B. O
7 b- A1 s# D, s, N9 E. J \The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has4 E2 ?9 ^3 X7 E0 H4 C
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large

! q) O- U u+ J9 Z& Jline with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages+ c0 y6 B1 B5 }7 h9 ]
competition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that) `# x7 G1 {" w# }- K8 A
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
