Alberta College is governed by an independent Board of Governors 0 B' ]& f s' k3 [7 i- [" r! J
drawn from a wide cross-section of the community. Established in
4 {% Q' ~0 y9 w- ~1903, Alberta College predates both the City of Edmonton and the ' ~6 g( |3 N* D- o
Province of Alberta. It was founded by concerned citizens as the ' f& Q; H, \- q* s! R+ u* o2 J, T
first post-secondary school in the area, on land bequeathed by
& X9 O1 c" `% D! wpioneer George McDougall for educational purposes. The College 0 k- T7 i; U/ S0 [9 |4 h; X+ k
initially had three departments: academics, commerce and music,
" D1 i$ c% _& `) yand its main purpose was to prepare young students for + p2 H% s& l, `, `

Whether providing university transfer programs in 1903, English

employment training programs to youth in the 1990's, Alberta $ E5 K& ^- ]1 A( ]& Y& w
College has always distinguished itself as innovative and

This tradition continues today with the launch of the

edge career programs in 1999. The International Music Academy is / T9 k5 Q- R& }1 n/ ]: `3 b- z
the first of its kind in Canada, providing opportunities for
) ^7 v; e" J$ a3 g. @aspiring, talented musicians and contributing to the pride and
/ t: ^( w% o7 G4 Ostrength of Edmonton. The career programs provide industry-

employment in less than a year.
