Vancouver or Edmonton??

Sorry I can't type Chinese from Office...

My husband and myself both have good/stable jobs in Edmonton. Recently he got a job offer in Vancouver. It is a govenment agent job with nice benefit package. The total pay will be higher than what he is having now. However if we decide to move to Vancouver, I have to give up my current job and find a local one in Vancouver... It is little chance for me to get a same good job in BC as BC economic is slow and the pay in my area is lower. Should we move? Thank you very much for your advice!

it depends how much you are making now, if ur work is also professional and with the higher salary (more than 60k/each year), then don't do it, just too much risk.

it depends how much you are making now, if ur work is also professional and with the higher salary (more than 60k/each year), then don't do it, just too much risk.

说实话，我不认为是一个好的主意，除非你老公的新地方工资给的高很多，不然的话不是一个特别好的选择，relocation always costs much more money。温哥华的工作机会不是很多，如果你们向往那边的生活，就等等，等你老公拿到比这里好太多的职位再说吧。地方是好地方，不过真的是机会太少了，我见了好多从哪里搬到这里倒是不少。

It all depends. How much more he earns, whether you accept the high house price, how much you wanna escape the cold weather, how likely is it for you to find a professional job (Salary not necessarily as high)...

Thanks.. He will get $20,000 more per year.

I believe I can find a professional job in BC sooner or later , but the salary and benefit won't be better or equal to my current one.. my current salary is higher than my husband.. so if I give up, it will be a big lost to family.

In the other hand, I hear that BC is good for kids. they will have bigger vision and more opportuties for all kinds of things. escaping from cold winter is another bonus... this might be our last chance to get out of here before we are getting older...

if i were you , i will move for two reasons instead of money.

1. better city better life in Vancouver.
2. Government job is most secured job in Canada. For that your family has no risk. In addition you will find another job sooner or later in Van.

Life quality is most important. With that money is secondary.

对于楼上第一点，双手强烈赞同，V是个好地方。

对于楼上第二点，政府工作是很稳定，但是真的那么好吗？从政府跑出来的我大笑三声路过～～～

还有所谓的LIFE QUALITY，如果手里的钱少了很多，我想QUALITY高不了哪里去。楼主是很专业的工作，找一个是比较容易的，如果真的想搬家过去就去吧，不过要辛苦一阵子。

如果LZ相信自己迟早会在温哥华找到工作的话，那还有什么好犹豫的。
那里的生活质量比这里高很多，环境好心境自然开朗，交通便利，回中国不用转机，周边景色宜人。
说这里好的人，那是没有像LZ家一样的机会，如果找得到大城市的工作，有几个人会选择留下的？

这样的问题，一般还要考虑到自身的家庭结构家庭现状综合考虑。比如年龄段，有无小孩以及如果有的话孩子的大体年龄等。
如果抛开所有的这些客观因素，我觉着有必要搬，在这个半年冬天的地方有啥意思，我也相信相当一部分如果不是因为工作的缘故，是不会一直呆这个地方的。

dude, money talks. V is a much better place than E for sure. But the problem is once everything is related with money especially you get a big family, it's hard to make the decision. I am looking forward the life in V as well, and I got a couple of offers before, but the salaries were not that much based on its living costs, that's why I gave up..

But for kids' education, that's a damn good reason.

this is something you'll have to decide on your own. if you can't even make this kind of decision on your own, then how can you decide which advice people give you is the one your want to take?

things to consider:

- difference in income (total gross/net income, including benefits)
- job satisfaction yours and his
- weather/climate
- job security
- environment/culture/location
- government policy (it'll affect your health care, kids education, etc)
- etc etc etc

take your time and think it through. once you decide, stick to it, no need to regret once you make up your mind. there is no right or wrong answer here.

妳現在Edmonton的薪資高於妳先生，意謂去Vancouver，妳必須做出必要的"犧牲"，若妳能完全體悟為了老公、為了家庭，今後對此犧牲毫無怨言 (即使在找不到工作的情況下)，那我認為若撇除生活消費的考慮因素，溫哥華的生活環境是比較好。
在現代社會，女人有獨立自主的經濟能力還是很重要的，尤其趁年輕時。
