Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.36 S- e( G% |0 ^9 T+ x4 M/ f/ U
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution1 H% L+ b, @$ W" D
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
" l+ Q# [; j+ A/ @* Ymatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
' @9 l( W$ Z$ L5 X; Uin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800! T+ O+ ^' R- D
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
, z' T0 u& H# L: Q! Z/ @% S* Twithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
' y, {$ |$ X6 c$ b( iwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum9 @% [7 R, h) l
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
: k5 q5 \0 |- Fwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and7 `- k* X" |% N* X+ x6 u8 C
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown, E' {7 X6 h, w4 S! G
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,% U& I- ]& C! [ E# n
thanks to the D800.
# ~4 G' \5 U3 a: T& p! J, {9 sWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,5 [. G$ s- z+ M2 B
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic4 B/ |0 i" e) b* F4 y9 v* A
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
# B* z8 ~ \) e$ _/ \- D7 S! {* Sthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a" u8 V' r1 i, U7 M9 Z0 |
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as8 [0 o2 y9 f5 c( T
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
5 S8 g! g/ t* q% Y' P- w' D7 dAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor9 B5 ]4 c3 s3 ?: q2 {9 h w. Y
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
4 F5 J5 I3 R( m8 `easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while" p+ U! O2 U# Z1 y
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New0 @+ W! J; D# V1 t4 Q
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
0 C9 s! Q# M8 {$ }( y4 Din such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
9 ]% M$ W4 H2 R+ W! kprints and video.
$ J1 v! y; S# Q: qTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
3 \2 B% z* B5 y% r0 w: [not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models z9 q! v3 [. J4 X* X
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
% L; B6 z- i h( vcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
5 T" J; k# G: p" qsight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
q4 f) E: l% A, m Ilike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of2 y2 I. e' j. u: f/ o4 G3 w& z' H9 u
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
) s2 e. g1 `. O; m' @! }' f3 Dam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as! j0 j, S3 M% n; Z- ~- S
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse8 s9 C h4 i5 N5 R& I7 g! v
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
# w: t0 h( t N6 p1 ], ktremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the H7 T: u6 d2 N, j$ R& k$ v' ^* m' ^
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express7 H7 P7 _& Y8 W# j) C" z+ \
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
; [+ I$ F, x+ v' m f% Z, RAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,# w5 A% x+ `( k% ^+ e
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal
0 o' i1 p. b* b$ j" sartistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for
3 w/ E- U) G, q" gthe high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital

now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions/ P( ^7 v- {4 m0 T3 r
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior1 I- l4 o0 w0 o$ P! \
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for2 o* A" N# w/ _$ R! d$ K
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they$ ]! m ~' _( o' ]
perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly
. y2 ], E& J! \4 Jclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility; _- g+ Y+ S# x
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional
( K! H w" t/ |+ N6 yrange of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality8 v. H. k P( } M
