Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression
7 S& h/ j Y6 n* B$ Z- zof the new Nikon D800. Established medium-format image quality is1 n" \; W1 c% r1 ~5 \" i/ h
now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
9 a9 k# {4 ]& Z; a: \9 mmegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution3 k) H3 w$ L" p- @
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color a) e, |$ S+ [& H
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance! T7 }* ^& \4 ^! c: A
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800/ i" }) y) R& \9 p3 k
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
! Q0 e4 ]5 i+ C0 M$ Y4 Swithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography* B' o: l7 j* s! t
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum( k! X( X5 q; e0 B
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was* K- z$ j0 B8 p" i1 j$ U& @
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
3 Y$ {5 t v3 s% dconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown1 V) n: R$ X0 K9 {
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,

When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,* N, `; f8 I. Z# _
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic9 H6 X- m5 L4 `- }0 R. }- l+ ^
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
' }$ R) } u% [0 w0 B3 |& ?& fthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a9 `: ~ ~6 n9 P: O
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
) g9 S4 @: e6 S4 y/ Cwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
! ]2 P2 y' n0 Z# ~" OAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
. X4 @8 u9 l0 ?+ i" ]; K j. |9 x1 j0 Qhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is' }/ f6 Z" M' o& n1 o
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
3 L' Y4 h$ W% \' }3 e9 yalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
9 v7 G8 l9 { w! B* c( S' \+ Dcameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features! ]& s4 \2 x6 @! I' U7 E
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality/ @7 T$ }9 D& l# ]4 @' ]$ B
prints and video.
2 ]5 j5 V$ |! N& YTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
, l! A# e' o# o6 Ynot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
( i. g, m* Q( \, z4 U! Bare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
2 ?& i9 k/ [2 }; T" dcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first7 I, ]& K8 u+ k0 m( c/ N q. f F
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
% G& C4 P2 a7 D+ E5 \0 g; Alike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
. q5 @8 {1 n, Iacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I1 g/ ]' W' |9 M
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
; e7 D6 e6 H8 |9 r1 k4 u/ J# Q7 athough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
8 K) q& v" |- \ @photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add6 H) m% j, Y/ D
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
! a! ?* N! H, t4 M- Y; f/ ^D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express+ h: \0 V' ~# w V
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.5 N( |( I9 l \0 d: m* l" _
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight," \8 w9 ^( I. d; I3 V5 y
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal' X. g2 B6 ^9 s0 e. L9 S: k
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for

& e9 R, m) c- c: y& Parchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they

clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility! C+ k( d, K: }4 E& X" n
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional
