Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

/ W; s6 ], L$ T1 G4 }now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.30 x8 f4 X4 Y) M( h" u0 q1 S
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution4 ^9 [; _1 N; K- d2 ~$ m
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
1 E' u' @4 V7 E. J% z: @" N/ v/ cmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance2 V3 I8 R/ t+ w
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
7 y& a& [1 d9 W) X0 mallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject* g6 w- {( p$ P6 O
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography! I& V. Q: f4 e2 A
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum$ E h$ }6 ?# J" B) K/ I
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
* d- N1 Q O! `- a( ^widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and/ w! G0 ~& a3 e! S) s" a
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown; a" u- b D1 K) k7 k! D
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,( c0 V9 }" R/ U5 X2 q6 g' e3 K8 k
thanks to the D800.

range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces- [0 k' C1 ], q/ e& K+ @* P+ i
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a i: L5 J& a/ j- T7 i8 D
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
4 G/ ]4 A: Y; kwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
3 t+ \" E% t$ i# N# `Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
7 V' }. n! Z4 N1 Qhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is. a8 i6 R9 N- O4 a+ @6 g5 F, ?
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while/ \8 C8 `# T) ?5 c
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
7 Y# `" f( B* K- i3 Jcameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features2 S4 M* O% }0 F( l& P4 B
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality, |. _6 @# b! u' B
prints and video.; [8 g; N( j t
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
* U; J j9 X6 k2 {not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
8 p1 N. @. T# |! K- pare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using- Q C6 j Q) Q% q
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
4 o8 ?: ]* A' D1 S4 ~sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
: ~- \5 Z; x( ~. F' w7 t vlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of8 m7 K( e- P1 ?$ i1 b5 h1 }6 R [
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
5 c; L4 H: `, K: ?8 iam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as, ~) b' A4 g" Z6 k5 w
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse( r ]5 N1 ?: @8 |
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
/ V4 K! q+ y6 J" d Xtremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the! a/ @' V" p) B. l* y( L: D+ y
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express( N6 k' k% N: a3 {
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.

quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for

perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly% [& r) j' p7 Q
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
) O. y: e$ O/ [6 y- fto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional3 F1 h s, n4 l, Z1 m
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
