8 A  P4 \! Q8 M8 Y) t( J
: B$ \* A* a' T
        1. I couldn't care less.
9 d, _4 q" L( E+ B! V7 y- u* E6 h  Y2 K+ `
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
, |! A! @0 R& Z( f# E% @" E
8 t. What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
. w2 `  w1 e9 p; w6 `9 x
: _/ N- m) \( F" P( p: D- e$ d4 }  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) ( `. S& {  |+ y5 [

8 c8 H4 m; {! y5 l  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
$ Q9 u4 C/ S+ t* |2 l# m: m" x8 U6 i. V& f  S
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) 8 `; f! v! ^( \/ Y

0 I, z$ O0 t3 m: Q% r* |  但是有时说话者也有口是心非: 例如:   B" x- l2 a; {1 N- c1 [6 P7 q0 K

- P1 T) R( P  T# N- }  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) + Q5 T  I$ x- ^; C- }
) G* S3 R0 Q- s
Yes, you do(care). # @1 S1 L1 G# Q- \" K+ B

" T6 F1 E. G8 ]& b( v# v  至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
/ {5 ^0 T' d* v. i" {( g9 B/ T* \  l4 P8 q+ i. `, u: g5 p) ^
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) 2 ?4 A5 d/ n+ m- o; U: t3 e) \7 j

- [, F, A- P( m' Y! F  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) 9 y7 P5 t0 b9 }% f' ~! j3 E1 k
2 a. ]+ B9 ^) _. _! a0 N1 W
  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
0 W9 l/ J% j$ h' r& D* ], S& N' n/ n, a  O( c# f5 D5 z
4 f/ L& C& T) j+ s5 J) E2 m
  D+ b) I! P2 E4 T/ b  I couldn't be more wrong.
6 k2 F. x- P0 t/ s
: i$ w0 x; e  m
% c: c: n* ?$ `3 k- s
9 C6 p( w! [+ H0 \3 G  不过,严格来说,I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少)
9 q2 \* a7 l( E1 ?& u
; g/ ~9 }7 K; _" n  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)
6 N" \* Z7 p4 ^3 L, V
# P+ V4 V' W3 n+ h6 [  2. No bones about it.   y! A) ^8 @! U3 T$ O" {
- u+ |1 K/ w& l9 f
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: 0 s; y. z# K/ V4 `/ q
2 x. C! x9 r: C3 S. X4 a, v
  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
$ c: c$ R, U2 F' V. \% S1 k0 V; K" k
  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
9 y& q& N7 H& ?/ D. D/ T( c
* h0 |9 p- U9 L, y' S4 Z  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
- F: c& w. x0 F2 L' p: n/ x* i  t  l$ G% N0 S' R5 M  d6 a. C% u  h
  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
' o) r, x+ b8 ?8 j8 Q$ C" r3 n0 i6 K7 G2 E- O# X7 Q
  3. take it on me! / R  l  V8 P) `" l1 l  x

  }7 l. Q) F. G' m9 S  T' s1 W+ W  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: - D( W+ q/ ?" f3 L6 i
- H2 W4 l8 N: Z7 d0 n
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
( u1 d+ V' y2 I. N' k) ]  U7 \& b/ L# h
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
' H9 O, n6 v, v1 `" ^# q3 t( g  l0 r# B* r- e
  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
9 w, h9 {" Z  i! k  d
5 V7 C( f- x! W; N  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。
/ D) r+ O- i; w% M5 B& C8 C% D$ _$ Y5 \" c
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) 7 P& R5 a" U8 T# f3 i  B' d
8 \7 S0 Z/ ^7 n
  4. I am from Missouri. 0 o* G) z& S8 u
6 n) d5 A9 f% E# R
  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
. M: C; c' E: c# V; L& s4 x! W

! e, {7 n# o* @  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. (他是来自密苏里州,所以不容易说服他。) 6 o( P* _1 |+ o) b* {
2 C# l1 H9 G' A2 p7 b& n
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) ( P/ c! {" b. h3 C& i6 d

1 l% c) o0 B& |6 o0 F; ?  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. 7 ^: Q# v7 I+ O. X7 w
- ]9 C3 v1 z- M2 {9 @: k9 C
  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
