美国人平时生活上所用的一些口头禅,其实字句都很简单,但是如果不加说明,往往还会让人一知半解或似懂非懂。下面所举的例子,即是常常听到的一些美语口头禅。# a7 S+ U- W5 n' ]% o) {
5 U5 H. m' g9 s% l6 z- X# }. j
        1. I couldn't care less.
$ }- b; }; M& J/ e7 k$ W( j) k' x% [; }( Z" k: R$ _1 A
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
" h7 _: |. C  y. c: m
& W7 T1 \- H: J; M" F( V* O' \# \  人家如果问: What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
* f; L* z0 p+ P: r4 z/ n$ ?6 b
# Q  }1 T- K. l! w* n- W  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
8 k, t9 N6 X3 p+ \' [7 s8 K' z* v5 ^( I5 \# m  s7 V
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
9 T( W6 L0 |# Z2 R( r0 r% k! O: ~# x% E7 u  q
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
& M2 Z# {5 b2 q' L
! p0 m0 Z6 L9 n/ ?1 g7 k# x
# p* h& W; J4 r9 z/ Q8 _+ J  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) - C' I; R5 @, c6 N
( S" {8 e3 F  V4 O8 u3 a
Yes, you do(care). 2 t  V* K: f, {* @% W+ u' a; m3 Y
/ n3 |% T+ o& Q! _( ^
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
) L5 I+ P9 @' p* ^. t% }+ i
* g2 R2 k/ f5 Q6 }! f8 p" P  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) 6 k5 a. ?% _  N% x# y$ G# j

% U$ i& S2 _$ b: Z7 e; j  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) ' Q& E, I0 ]! U" ?
" ^/ l6 P% q8 f% Y( D1 X" a7 O
  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. ' a5 }  l/ T" r# {* r
4 [' k) p1 H& G5 x: U
. L4 q+ z: R0 }! y- _9 X
  I couldn't be more wrong. 9 W9 H; n2 N# w- d

( V& \$ g3 K' @0 N  c% {+ V
5 C6 z7 I* j, R$ _
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) / _9 C& r' a$ Y+ O

! R' Q. E/ q/ O, }* l: n! u/ x  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) % }+ g2 A2 p3 i' Q- y
' A' m2 [2 u4 b5 S1 z8 J
  2. No bones about it. 6 q- u* N7 E8 p) {) h$ q1 \

9 G1 o/ r2 X$ h7 a$ [  [8 Q$ G  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:   S/ j5 S% s4 K- @+ q1 J' D# O

7 I' ~5 @2 ]* ~& c9 n0 w; `  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) 7 e% o8 P, F; m( r1 @
8 E8 \6 w1 |1 `; E/ c1 X: ~
  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
& R; o4 t3 i! Y+ W
4 U/ k8 ^9 G4 @  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) : U% {7 N7 }8 u( q- t

1 Q, Z- E" Y/ V$ V: `' v  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
7 Q- ]  S. Z( d6 ^! F
/ q0 Q6 ^( C) s) t. T3 t* G  3. take it on me! ( d+ O% |8 b7 @: Y+ e. q
: l/ s' z7 [% \( C! `. g6 v
  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
" S1 F6 H* L. P) |" W, u1 W8 N7 X( T0 O1 N! p  P1 S
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
- l) [. G$ o# ~( [8 [5 w  o5 X
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." (餐馆老板对我说:“尝尝我的甜点吧!”) 3 e$ k8 X( O' u& b! o6 l
3 l! f  t( Q$ ?" t* H
  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
: U/ y4 J) ]* j* E" q' F  a1 h9 T1 B! h% C
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) 4 H. D0 ^- {* e5 W

* A+ `, G4 J6 S" d  4. I am from Missouri.
( j9 B: f' D2 j
, A4 Y4 F: u' k' }3 \' p  D( x  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
1 w: E  g8 w* I' o. ^! G, ?" g) F' _# I6 u) W# `3 M

5 I8 f, }9 }: @. O  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
( c" g) D) U0 W: g" Y6 s/ |
$ |% v3 ^6 b8 Q  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) (别愚弄我,我是来自密苏里州。)
, t+ {% S. ]3 ]# |/ I: ^/ b, c2 P
( ?9 O; o3 a# w! B& B4 O  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. : ]% P! {$ p( R1 K) A" D
3 i/ l6 g" R8 x3 Z
  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
