Act as a change agent -  liaising between the public and the City of Edmonton

& b6 _7 S- N/ R7 t) a! \6 J! s2 UUse your investigative/law skills - conducting detailed investigations of alleged municipal bylaw and provincial regulation violations, interviewing witnesses, complainants and defendants, gathering  and preparing evidence
, z6 V, H( E0 J' jEncourage positive influence - ensuring pets are licensed, following up on expired licenses, determining appropriate enforcement action by seeking voluntary compliance/issuing warnings/penalty tickets
Make a difference - conducting patrols and returning lost pets to their owners

- y5 [1 w0 x8 h' w$ [% GSuccessful additions to our team will have:
- R  `( [: p3 n& P7 k* Y' u  L6 D, R" {# GCompleted a 2 year diploma in law enforcement from a provincially recognized institution
- \% P2 [) a) u( z2 i3 _: iA minimum of 2 years related public contact experience including 6 months of bylaw or legislation enforcement experience
Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply Animal Control legislation, bylaw enforcement practices and investigation techniques
# M# B5 L1 {+ X0 o& |Ability to control a wide variety of domestic and potentially dangerous animals utilizing appropriate equipment
. z7 L; I/ p7 z" d3 ]The ability to enforce bylaws impartially and tactfully, often in difficult and/or confrontational situations
% t+ _% w! T9 a9 i3 |- j$ VExcellent conflict management decision making skills
0 C2 ?+ u) w+ [% r7 lStrong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
% d2 ^8 V* h$ C# }% Z# y$ fAbility to prepare reports and to accurately complete required documentation
5 \4 M& m/ C" vProficiency working with computers including Microsoft Word and Excel
' I! C$ Q" I( x: L, p$ mAbility to qualify as a Community Peace Officer II  
3 d: h& u; U( A; o$ w9 JCertification in Standard First Aid and CPR is an asset
An original enhanced Police Information Check (background check on applicant, family and close associates, that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position.  Please note, this may take up to 3 weeks to process
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

0 A5 B4 N! Q% dSalary Range: 10M, Salary Grade: 073, $32.674 - $33.777 (Hourly).  The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton
