想学NAIT的hvac专业，求建议

本人年过三十，今年二月份刚到爱城，目前无业状态，下月初测英语，估计要读LINC。选择这个专业是考虑到：时间1年，比2年的课程要短，二是看专业介绍，还算喜欢做吧，其他了解不多，有没有过来人指点一下？谢谢了。

对专业不太了解，但入学首先要考英语，先试一试考NAIT ENGLISH LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT, 看看有多大差距再说，考英语要浪费很多时间的。

HVAC 全称是 HVAC/R，即Heating，Ventilation And Air Conditioning/Refrigeration。HVAC/R工会是Union 488.

I have been in this trade for more than 6 years as a journeyman. If you have any specific question, I would like to help you.

谢谢沃克，HVAC和RACM一样吗？看NAIT的课程设置好像区别挺大的，另外，您以前也在NAIT读过吗？是不是毕业后找到工作才算开始学徒期？

I don't think HVAC has anything to do with RACM. As far as I know, RACM is a pretty shitty job. Pls don't choose RACM if you don't have to.

To begin HVAC trade, you need to first find a HVAC company that would like to take on you as a beginer. After 3 months roughly, the company will help you to get the apprentice blueprint. You don't have to stay in NAIT for one year to get a deploma in order to be qualified to begin your HVAC trade job.

Your English looks pretty good.

I am wondering why you are interested in HVAC/R trade since you have no experience in it. Maybe I should introduce you a little bit more about this trade before you make your final decision which way to take. What's your educational or professional background back in china? Maybe you can also go to union 488 to read some introductive information about HVAC/R trade.

thanks for your reply.In China, my major is physical electronics, this is a very less popular major in china, it's more likely a microwave technology speciality. after got master degree, I worked in a research institute for 4 years, resposible for designing and testing of amplifiers. after that,,i joined a company and in charge of repairing work,, so that's my brief work experience. sorry, a little long and boring,

Your background makes you a good candidate for instrumentation, electrician or HVAC/R job. Instrumentation trade may fit you better.

As a HVAC/R technician, we deal with maintenance and troubleshooting everyday.

The control side of HVAC/R equipments: most of them electrical control, some old system use pneumatic control or hydronic control. Now more and more new system use central control or internet control.

As a commerical HVAC/R, you need to drive a service truck visiting customers like, grocery stores, restourants, commercial buildings, senior buildings, colleges,... even some prisons and strip bars to check HVAC/R equipments operation. HVAC/R equipments include: RTU(roof-top unit), MAU(makeup air unit), Chiller, Boiler, Walk-in Cooler & freezer, Prep cooler, Ice-making machine, Humidifier and dehumidifier, Display Cases, furnace and water heaters ..., you will soon step into every corner of this society because where there is human being, where there is HVAC/R equipments, so where you go!

As an industrial HVAC/R, you need to deal with mostly custom made HVAC/R equipments. So every day you drive you truck to a quiet place and sleep all day or all week. But don't forget to fill in your time sheet at the end of every day.

wow, thanks so much, i think these valuabe information is very important for one who wants to be a HVAC technician, i think i'd love to do it, i have 1 yr's experience in troubleshooting equipments such as power supply and amplifiers, i like that job, though not HVAC equipments. Is it difficult for me to get in this trade? you know, i donot have experience, if i finish the HVAC program, maybe it will be better? during years of apprenticeship, is there someone like advisor to help you learn this trade?

In north America, it's said more than 70% of energy is consumed by HVAC/R equipments, so energy saving has always been one of the main concerns for everyone involved in the HVAC/R industry. We installed green energy system such as solar heating and geothermal heat pump for heating the building(mostly provincial pilot project now). For instituational and commercial buildings now, VAV system is very popular. All for saving energy and making occupants comfortable.

楼主，根据你提供的背景经验和你回帖的英文能力，你完全可以完善一下你的简历直接申请工作；或者上一个工作经验班然后找工作。这样会节省很多时间。

比如说如果你会使用Auto-CAD和Excel，可以先从Designer做起，然后转成工程师。

当然，如果你喜欢开车到处跑去做服务这种性质的工作，这个HVAC也可以是你的一个选择。

如果你不介意，先准备一份简历，最好到Downtown找Counselor帮你看看做一份符合这里格式的简历。然后我可以找我的电气仪表同事看看，如果他们觉得合适，我可以帮你递上去。今天我还真问我们经理来着，问他现在还招电气的吗，他说招，有朋友尽管推荐。

我去年推荐了一个Piping的，现在做得很好。

我们这里招聘的职位是Estimator，需要能看懂图纸，Excel技能要好。不过在我看来，这些都是次要的，关键是人品要好，因为只要有专业基础和电脑技能，这些学起来都不是问题。

去年新招的起薪好像是65K，不过这个也看背景经验，但总的来说初级的工资不太可能超过70K。看看吧，如果你有兴趣，就准备一下简历。不一定成，但是一个机会。

非常感谢，简历格式是按照华人服务中心那边指导做的，我现在担心英语交流方面是个问题，刚来俩月，自我感觉很不好，由您做推荐，假如不成的话，不会对您有影响吧？

对我不会有影响，关键是不管结果如何不要影响你以后的自信心。

你最好找Counselor帮你培训一下面试技巧，最好找说英文的。网上有很多Behavioral Interview Questions，打印下来，每个问题都做好答案，背下来。这些问题都是面试必问的，至少HR必问。这里的面试跟国内不一样，一般都是有套路的，可以准备。至于专业问题，你实话实说就行，Junior的职位一般要求都不高，不过，如果你的听力实在有困难可能还真是个问题。但你在国内有Master学位，这些应该不难吧？

你还是先准备简历和面试问题吧，如果简历里面的内容刚好符合要求，我递上去以后得到面试的可能性应该大于50%。关键还是要准备，这种事情没有捷径。当然，现在也不是招人的繁忙季节，所以整个过程可能会比较慢，但是只要你符合要求，只要我递上去，我会帮你跟踪到底的。

还有，我们工作地点不在城里，如果你还没有驾照，可能交通也是个问题。

这件事情，对我来说就是随便帮忙，因为咱们根本都不认识，不成也不会有什么影响；谁都有刚来不容易的时候，成了就算是成人之美吧。

谢谢建议，自己国内是做微波相关器件的，但是到这里后，没有找到相关的资料职位啥的，有的也是要求挺高的，我也知道自己啥水平，所以就没考虑。
