Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
/ N: M+ W3 I; G% N }4 unot do any of the following:
( g+ w3 ^" v! R, r! p$ l' t(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
( Y" n0 [1 H$ ~2 Cvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
2 J( P! P9 {2 t& A9 ~# K: Q- H0 W(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor; D- ]& |% @8 d/ F: I
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 D* W3 B$ B* l. K+ ~
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,2 k6 ]6 B0 x Z( G/ k* u" C- D
permit another person
* J. N) L* T6 H* X(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or7 g9 F9 g, q! D+ |8 o/ w: H% N. V* N
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
! G& Q: M4 S% O9 W$ R1 L3 tunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

responsibility card or a copy of it
' w. X) a* ]( L; [to a person not entitled to have that financial
1 {' X* ]: N$ m4 a [6 N7 Cresponsibility card or copy.

8 T/ c( p) R/ W7 KIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
! Z0 k; S; k7 w) vwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of/ w& V: I/ r6 H9 ?+ U7 x, J2 Y
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection7 p9 P8 j6 ~- l( V8 E6 P% K) ~
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
# W3 f6 c# R7 K/ S9 Vnot an insured motor vehicle.

. Z& H* e# q, S5 E. wIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
, r7 h% \: q9 D$ q+ O! T9 J& tAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

% o9 U& [) V; r6 S# TSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
; A6 S9 Q0 s0 t" t7 t4 a0 Y/ Dfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
5 ]% x* ~2 h7 eInsurance Act
0 Z4 M4 T) P, mby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
& p4 J% w' b: routside Alberta.
+ q( Y9 y7 @& ]* K* h" Z- E/ Z(4)! U1 s; D$ r2 a$ }
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection$ H1 E( J1 M$ E5 W! E
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,1 T" s0 n# {9 n! r9 F) p7 r& o
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
+ r9 P8 A0 U( q J! Aand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
: @# F* D; h1 A+ s8 J1 G. Wimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
6 {; s' t8 @/ s9 `" v+ N* Rmore than 6 months
' _! @ w) Y; Y' W, IMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
