EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.9 M, F6 V$ L: W5 {
# D# z; @/ f1 }% {The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

% h: c: ^1 f8 O/ u; |Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."4 p7 e5 Q+ h0 O9 S( N
