; F) J; ?5 F0 }4 |0 r6 V　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

% `8 n7 p8 N8 @. ?& Q1 n; v- X　　Both sides of the Great Wall
1 n& H" x2 Y! B2 [  a$ \' P
　　One single white immensity.
1 b: ]1 A& P, }! h- b
" m3 ]! r% a& b　　The Yellow River"s swift current

　　Is stilled from end to end.

　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

' d, {  i, T$ w+ Y  K　　On a fine day, the land,

; U' V) Q$ D6 }" M3 a5 ^　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　This land so rich in beauty

　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

　　Had little poetry in their souls;
! ^( {7 J' {' f. X& t  t　　And Genghis Khan,

4 \8 T+ D6 T  I4 C　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

1 n# s( e% G' x. ^# H$ r　　All are past and gone!

　　For truly great men
