3 z5 ]7 {0 m: f6 u) q  C( D& H0 V0 gJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
6 g  U, F, k: k6 q3 e1 P5 h2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
7 H& u8 I# a7 ]. U! eCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
4 F* @! Z0 q( TStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

# B" m0 F+ Q  }- B1 KDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
5 ?9 G$ B/ k% [* vadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

' }+ l% t% q0 d$ e9 M& a5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
+ m# ?" h- a, Q( l1 Xreferenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
parties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

' i: A6 k5 ]/ P5 R, J4 ]* K6 Y To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
Bylaw 2000.

( ?4 \6 h) k! }( M$ b7 G5 z  G10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
8 A1 ^& q% P! e; }minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
; X9 V1 @  O% B6 P7 qof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
9 y* ?' A7 H) @9 F# e3 ^6 A
1 w- E- p6 e7 v/ F3 |3 o8 t; ^11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
the course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
4 l2 @# w5 d- {0 L5 ^process is in place.

6 V2 M8 p! b0 L# E, @13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

2 g  {- d# H1 `  I. \; d0 IQUALIFICATIONS:

6 U1 |5 S# a* K, X1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
8 G7 C, n) g2 v6 m" \$ ]1 j" `for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
; e! y# i8 v5 H" BUnion member.
4 }' A: H( V4 ~3 j9 j) E
2) Must have some experience in student elections.

3 \# `5 i* d& `3 `3 o+ R3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
, w8 _! a+ e% ]' j) M& H% H. ?with the Students' Union.
# Q0 q& m0 J- {/ b. u9 Z* J
4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
+ n* n& g8 |; l! }* s! Z$ _5 Y
5) Excellent project management skills are required.

/ P" ]0 b/ l: c! N+ ~5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
2 V4 H) s1 `  M7 jstaff, students and the general public.
