JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
# T5 y! q- l3 W5 d& z% k6 j* m0 S. ?& G2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
' b6 c6 p: _+ R" a5 lCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
" A2 b% J$ w! E' l4 tyear following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- s4 _" w3 y$ W6 Z4 P# r1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
" W1 Y9 m8 R4 Y, \
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

0 K8 k4 Y7 {* c: Z* {2 J4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

& i4 j4 ?  V( D$ j2 Y; s) s7 |* U5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
, I3 m3 V6 b  h; \+ B8 F1 Ireferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
2 f2 Y. e" Y6 i7 D4 oBylaw 2000.

. v, v( ?) y4 I. W. z7 S10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
" z* z) d% o) m0 h0 c4 Xminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
, p: i) }. i" f- Y: P1 Xof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

% J0 U% O# U, a1 N2 h+ `4 P  u11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
' T" c! Y+ Z2 M& ]) xthe course of an election/referendum.

) Z; l7 ^) x0 J/ g12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
" l4 s  Q2 l3 s$ mprocess is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

( r' ]* H1 N8 b- W" t, a! E" t% L& i! H14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

. g' o& t& w5 w) D15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

/ }: v* L# e7 W, xQUALIFICATIONS:
% u* R- C2 c9 J4 v: B
2 ?& Y# _" R2 I/ g: a1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
Union member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.
& z$ r2 ?+ _, q& f- r
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
9 ]' q& k& \) V9 n! `2 @7 ?( |any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
with the Students' Union.

8 X# @' ~' z  Y: v9 f8 C! y" B4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.
! N5 w1 r3 t" ]) o9 L  W
5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
% ^3 p- R; e! F2 u0 {% d) N1 w) Pstaff, students and the general public.
